Gotta love the theme! There are many things possible with this one, I guess I'll try ^^

duly noted, lame ass, thoughtless submissions will not go to poll

After some side discussion I have changed my mind about doing this. Here is a WIP.
WIP number two

Why does it seem like every time I deign to once again rear my ugly head around these parts, the EOW is one of those massively open-ended prompts that I just get lost pondering?
Am I just that lucky?
May 29th, 2009, 10:57 AM
possibly. I try to vary from easy to conceptual... you must just be hittingthe conceptual ones
May 29th, 2009, 01:49 PM
Hopefully this isn't too derivative, Chaos.
May 29th, 2009, 05:16 PM
Thought I'd try this one out, though my mind's drawing a creative blank on this (this is my first post on the forums as well :D).
I've got some ideas, but I'm not too good at making things from scratch in Photoshop - it's a good exercise though :)
Here's the second version - I'm having a bit of trouble with the shading in the background (being colourblind doesn't help).

doesn't exactly scream cyberspace :\
May 30th, 2009, 03:50 AM
makes me think of the tad williams series Otherland. Exellent cyberspace before the matrix ripped it off...
May 30th, 2009, 01:43 PM
Almost finished now, just need to smooth some things out, etc.

More character than enviroment, but maybe sum1 gains inspriration out of it.

Well.. this is my first Eow and dang... haha Cyber Space...so general. It has been hard just figuring out what I am going to do... Here is my work in progress...couple hours in...
Howie: Love your use of color, those textures you got going from different brushes looks great too...very scifi-ish

I'm not good at environments, but I really like this. I'm thinking images of fractals and perhaps the fibonacci form. A large space, where buildings, relations, molecular structures interact.
In a single computer, when you use one program, it builds and builds, memory banks (libraries) and so on. Other programs don't build and stand as lonely stacks, that don't grow at all. Odd forms are created.
All of cyberspace is about relations. Connections. Hubs where people meet. The computer servers that host Google would be huge star like clusters... the single humans with small laptops are tiny specs. Some race through cyber world like jets. Others use dial up and very old machines.
Perhaps countries are like trees, or forms of their own.
Cyber space is the art of communication and the way it is put together in present day. But what is it changing into? Will it become more organic? Can we store more in physical cell form, than in metal chips? When millions of minds become one, and even the dead contribute with stored learning... what have we created? Who will lead, follow...?
I ramble, but I look forward to seeing the entries. I am also not sure I will be able to create anything, but I will certainly be playing with ideas.
Good luck everyone. If my ramblings inspire anyone, please run with it.

what a coincidence, i just happened to be working on an illustration about cyberspace for a business calendar. its a lot to do with emailing really though...

This is mine.. I'm not sure if I'm going to submit it or scrap it. Opinions plix?
June 4th, 2009, 01:03 PM
@couchtrap: Aha, that's pretty good :) Love the use of Longcat (or is it Tacgnol?).

Im a little torn between style/setting on this one. Everyone seems to be taking the 'space' element of cyber space quite literally, so i thought i'd join in the fun with a more traditional Sci-fi kinda thing..but make it 'digital' via REZ/tron.
I realised i was wasting my time and could have just screenshotted a wireframe, so i scrapped it and started on a bit of a more disney-fied 'inside the computer' environment..but while i like the colours, im not sure if its so relevant to 'cyber space' as i'd have liked.
Combining the two has quite an interesting effect however! I may have to pursue this version further.....
Looking forwards to submitting my first EOW that isnt painted at thumbnail size, incidentally, though i was tempted to approach this from the pov of pixel art just to be awkward :D.

this is what I've got so far
June 5th, 2009, 09:23 AM
I see cyberspace as a busy boring place :)
June 6th, 2009, 12:44 PM
cyberspace is a difficult concept. Consider William Gibson's definition,
Cyberspace. A consensual hallucination experienced daily by billions of legitimate operators, in every nation, by children being taught mathematical concepts... A graphic representation of data abstracted from banks of every computer in the human system. Unthinkable complexity. Lines of light ranged in the nonspace of the mind, clusters and constellations of data. Like city lights, receding..
Think TRON and Lawnmowerman, I mean the way TRON handled bits was fucking awesome. I guess the important thing is the abstraction of electrical signals to human meaningful objects. I don't care about IP packets, Ethernet frames, or ATM circuits, I care about images and ideas.
Now how you represent this abstraction from meaningless electrical signals to meaningful objects, well, good luck!

Cyberspace can be an ethereal forest - a computer city.

Cyberspace is the busiest and largest city ever created. Information is constantly traveling at light speeds through the high ways and roads of the town. The right side of city is focused on gathering the information and transporting it to the receiving side, which is the left.

Got no free time to finish this one up, so I might as well post it as it is:

Some awesome ideas from such a unspecific topic here guys, I like JVB's most though.
Keep 'em coming!

"Due to the demanding nature of cyberspace and the constant flow of data, an organic hub was created in order to meet the ongoing needs of the human race."
