ok. so i'm pretty down about going to parsons...but wait! lemme explain!!

i was pretty psyched about it when i was applying earlier in the year, so psyched in fact that its the only school i applied for. (ITS DUMB I KNOW. I WAS DRUNK ON EXCITEMENT)

after months and of waiting and irritation due to quite a few things, i was accepted with a fairly good amount of scholarship (little over $20,000/year)

this is the sucky part: after sending in my deposit and everything, this is the point when suddenly everyone is telling me how shitty parsons is.

- people got in without sending in a home test
- the illustration deparment sucks (my department)
- its not worth the amount of money (i've still got 21,000+ to pay despite the scholarship, my family is really really poor and my sister is already going to an expensive art school)
- so and so school is much better then parsons
- etc, etc...and then suddenly every school seems better then parsons, my opinion is unfortunately easily swayed...

luckily i'm going into parsons for foundation and i hear its pretty solid, so i want to know, what do you guys think of parsons?

the great things are, its in the center of new york, the dorms are nice, people tell me i will meet interesting people....

god, i know i sound like such a whiny bitch, but there are way more factors in this, i swear.

i'm already older for my class because i was born late and i also took a year off, so i'm really itchin to get started with college already, but i'm not even sure i want to go into art as a career, that's why it was so difficult for me to end up choosing to go to art school and such an expensive one at that.

i've already sent in my deposit and everything, so there's no turning back. i just want to know what i'm getting myself into here. tell me everything you know about parsons!!!

thank yousss >_<

Take a deep breath. Relax. As you said, you're going for foundation year, which will be similar no matter where you go, and you'll have a year to get a feel for both Parsons and Manhattan. Once you're actually there, and have something to go on besides opinion and hearsay, you should know fairly quickly whether it's for you or not. If it is, great. If not, and you want to stay with art school and/or stay in the city, do some research and apply to transfer somewhere else (your freshman credits should transfer completely to pretty much any other art school). Or, the reality of being in art school may confirm that this is not what you want to do with your life, which is fine, too. The fact is, you've already committed, and all these questions are theoretical until you're actually there, so stop worrying. Be exited.

yeh thanks. i think i have pretty good reasons to go to parsons...its just that everytime i get myself to get over one thing or another and actually not worry about it, someone tells me "hey parsons sucks" or something similar like that and i'm amazed at how down that makes me feel. typically my brain puts up a big "WHATEVER MAN" blockade against this, but its just not working for once. : / well anyways, i'm still getting good vibes from people about new york though, so that's something to look forward to. :>

Whatever you do, wherever you go, there will always be people who tell you that your choice really really really sucks. Get used to it.

A girl I knew in high school is going to Parsons right now.
I didn't know her very well, as she was a year above me, but she was notorious for being the best artist at the school (and probably the best the school had seen in a very long time). She was an extraordinary overachiever in her academics and extra-curriculars as well.

She says she absolutely loves Parsons (and loves New York as well).

I wouldn't be too concerned when you hear people say any certain school sucks. Most people who say that kind of thing are most likely bitter because they suck themselves.

Good luck.
