hi5 is looking to contract for an on-site artist to create digital paintings for games and other activities on our site, advertisements, and texture maps for 3D objects. We are looking for someone who knows how to create art solely in Photoshop – not Illustrator – and can produce good work in both realistic and stylized modes. You will work closely with the Art Director, Executive Producer, and User experience Engineers to make sure we get terrific looking images implemented correctly on our site. This is a three-month contract position, with the possibility of extension depending on business needs.
This is the style of some of the work that we are creating:

To apply, you must be able to provide work of this style and quality. To see more examples, go to hi5.com and visit the gift store. This isn't the only style of work we are doing, btw, just one example.
Please send samples or links to samples/portfolio to mdashow – at – hi5.com. We will not consider any candidate who does not send a portfolio or link to samples of their work. (And I will not look at any messages sent to personal e-mail accounts or anything sent to any address other than the one above. Don't send me a private message here on CA either.)
Requirements:
• Excellent demonstrable illustration skills, including a good sense of color, light and shading, perspective, anatomy and proportions, and layout.
• Ability to do all of the above proficiently within Adobe Photoshop. Must know the program very well and be comfortable producing all work within Photoshop.
• Ability to work at a decent speed and with limited direction.
• Some experience working with Flash (or, barring that, the desire to learn) is a plus.
• Knowledge of how to create texture maps for 3D objects and any experience making games, casual or otherwise, are big plusses.
• A sense of humor and a desire to work on web-based social applications and games in a collaborative environment are musts!
• Able to work on-site in our office in downtown San Francisco. (We will not relocate anyone, sorry!)
So what it like at hi5? This position has the virtue of offering a lot of variety – any given day might find you creating environment illustrations for a new social game, painting virtual objects for sale in our site’s gift store, designing icons for new premium services, texturing clothing for avatars or helping out with ad creative. The hi5 crew is fun to be around, we’re not operating in a perpetual crunch mode, and we keep our refrigerators well-stocked. If you’ve got the digital painting skills, drop us a line! Send us your portfolio (or a link to it) as well as your rates.
