This dynamic creature lives among the subterranean caverns and tunnels where it reproduces at an enormous rate, laying up to several hundred eggs in a single nest. Many of the offspring fall victim to predators and starvation before reaching adolesence. Once they reach maturity, however, the chemical composition in their bodies alters, creating enhanced pyschic activity. The energy is effortlessly leeched from surrounding aminals and vegetation and is absorbed and stored directly into their bodies thus allowing these creatures the ability to travel great distances underground. Although relatively harmless if left alone, prolonged exposure to one of these creatures can cause an adult human to become seriously weakened which could result in a comma and eventual death.

These dangerously psychic creatures were once believed to be gods themselves. But are actually deviant subservient animal scouts of the ancient Greek god Krohnos a god of the underworld and time, While being a cursed god , as with many other underworld Old Ones he was banished to an eternal slumber. But, even within this cursed slumber a few powerful Old Ones were able to maintain a power hold of sorts on our world. Through dreams and psychic powers they are able to summon and control certain allies and beasts to serve them as needed. The Dream eaters are some of these for Krohnos. Through their eyes and thoughts he sees the world and acts as he wishes. Whether under his control or not, they appear within and traveling throughout the astral plane and coming into ours ( Some believe they come from the Famed Dreamland). While in our prime material plane they appear and attack and hypnotize human pray. They delight in mesmerizing a victim to sleep , then feeding on their dreams and psychic energy. They can control our dreams, and turn them into nightmares. In some cases , they leave you in a vegetative state or permanently leaving the victims in a dream state (Comatose). Pray you don't meet one of these, in your waking ,or dream state.

He likes pornography, cigarettes and television. He wishes you would reconsider graphic design. He thinks you shouldnt be so hard on yourself. He lives in the only forest in Hell. He lives alone in this forest. He once murdered over 600 artists, philosophers and muses in three days. He is deeply fond of the Wayans brothers. You wouldnt remember him, but you have met before. Perhaps you recall the first half of that dream, maybe even a glimpse of him. That was the time he smothered your masterpiece in it's crib. He has done this three times so far. He will do it again. Because the Creation experiment must end. And because he hates you. He hates you so fucking much.

Concept: Immersed Platoon (IP) Crab
Lying dormant for up to a decade, the Immersed Platoon Crab is one of the most patient, calculative and sinister species of crab found by man. Waiting in suspended hibernation just below the surface, it acts upon slight surface tremors when attacking its prey. Unleashing 6 inch barbarous claws on its back and head deep into the limb of its unsuspecting prey it then proceeds to drain the body dry of blood while acting as a bio-symbiotic heart for its victim. The IP crab is also the only known species believed to psychically communicate with all surrounding IP crabs to help overwhelm its prey while they burrow the corpse underground to be slowly digested alive. Victims have been found over a week and a half later, still conscious yet immobile and unable to communicate due to the horrifically sustained torture endured.
Discovered in the late 21st century in the sandy shores off of eastern Australia they have all but decimated the once thriving surf community, rendering the Australian beaches as treacherous wastelands where only the bravest and foolhardy of professional surfers dares to tread.

Concept: Hades Bug
The Hades Bug.
Named after it's demonic and hellish appearance resides mainly underground. During the darker hours of the day it will surface and wait in trees and the undegrowth, and even in water much like a leech. But this creature doesn't just draw blood. This creature draws brain tissue and in turn can control the mind of it's host. It prefers to attack creatures of higher intelligance that it can detect with it's 'psychic' eye on it's back. It has an exteremely sharp sucker mouth that can chew through bone with the aid of digestive liquids. While it's tentacles and legs keep a firm hold of it's victims. Violent chimpanze behaviour has been attributed to the presence of this creature.

Concept: Submineus scholaris
Almost everyone has an experience with heavy fatigue and inattention. Of course students know this feeling very well. Few weeks ago workers repairing sewerage under one school in Europe found cavities under classrooms. After the short tracking the tunnel led them to this creature which was hidding in depth of 50metres under the ground. This depth it leaves only when it is hungry. The creature feed on sucking the alphawaves of young people's brains that is why it stay near schools and universities. In the close contact with the adult it isn't dangerous.

Floating between planes of existence, the Planar Drainer searches for sentient beings to feast upon.
Never quite in view, the Planar Drainer could be the shadows or movement that you see out of the corner of your eye. When you turn to look there is nothing there.
It's tentacles and feelers are brushing your mind, feeding on useless thoughts and memories, but also draining the mind of the capability to remember and think.
Slowly but surely over the years the victim becomes subject to mental illness.

Concept: Hereset
The hereset is a nocturnal creature who burrows underground using its long hook like claws during daylight hours to protect its pale skin from sun damage. Its feathery regions serve as a cover that can flatten out to protect its skin from the sun should it come to dire circumstances, and also serves to pad certain areas while it burrows and rests underground.
It has evolved past the need for eyes and in their stead it hunts via a heightened perception of electromagnetism, enabling it to pick up on the brain waves of nearby prey. It uses a hood of tentacles to suck on to the head of its victim while also using its hooks underneath their collarbones to keep a strong hold as it gnaws its way into their skull and devours their brain.

Concept: Cthunth Worm
One of many creatures that are birthed from a greater Cthuthian creature that produces various offspring fit for gathering psychic energy.
This leech-like creature works as a receiver and carrier of psychic energy. The worm finds a host rich in psychic energy. I first latches itself to the host, using it’s upper and lower tentacle-like areas. Protruding from the opening at its head are psychic sensitive mandibles that extract bio-electrical energy. It receives energy through the bulb located at the center of its frontal orifice. That energy is then held in glands on either side of its upper body. Once enough energy is received, it leaves the host alive or dead then returns to its “mother” and unloads its found energy. After unloading its energy to the “mother” the rest of its organic matter is then reabsorbed and recycled into another Cthunt worm.

The N'naggan N'goeh are bizarre, old, telepath planet parasites.
When they detect a planet with a developed biosphere they crash in it, and burrow themselves with powerfull claws, until finding a natural cave. Then, they attach themselves on the ceiling, and grow roots through it.The roots reach the surface and start draining all the nutrients from above, then, the main body of the creatures processes the organic material and evacuates in the cavern. With time evolution shapes a new fauna and flora underground, that the N'naggan N'goeh uses at their will, through telepathy, fooling the undergroung creatures in believing they are gods.

Concept: Chchotl
:mod:
The Chchotl is a molecular creature. In this image you can observe a female that just captured an atom and now is disturbing the natural flow of electrons. The female blasts a pulse of dark energy that makes one or more electrons to jump back in time. When that happens a psytron is taking shape in the void that is left in the space where the electron used to be. A psytron is not dark energy or antimatter. It is a particle that is naturally formed around a sentient being (like humans or dolphins) and begins to group into clusters. When the Chchotl hunts the females produce the psytrons and the males arrange them as fast as possible into long clusters. When a cluster is long enough it is starting to attract cosmic energy and genetic information through the sentient being that is more close to it. In other words intuition or inspiration that we say it "comes" to us is actually cosmic energy and genetic information that flows through our minds and bodies from the center of the universe to a cluster of psytrons that forms into our bio fields at a subatomic level. That cluster is actually a potential temporal line that begins to manifest scientific discoveries or works of art from cosmic and conceptual level to the physical realm. So in other words the Chchotl is feeding on our hopes and dreams, on our discoveries and works of art that will never see the light of day...
The Chchotl brief anatomy. The Chchotl is made of antimatter contained into an exoskeleton made of cosmic energy and shaped by genetic data. The female has long claws that have subatomic resonating spheres useful to trap stray atoms flowing through a bio field. The "head" has some flowing pieces similar to insects mouth that resonate at a certain frequency to help the Chchotl suck cosmic energy and genetic data. The male has similar features but adapted to positioning psytrons into clusters.
The Chchotl brief physiology. When a Chchotl sucks cosmic energy through a psytron cluster it is adding new features to it`s structure and shape. In the example below we see a tail that is almost taking shape as the female struggles to produce psytrons. At her last meal she started to grow a tail and now she is trying to complete it before it disintegrates.

The PsyLatoric Sucker measures an average of 5 meters in length and weighs around 225 kilos. It spends most of its time lurking on the bottom of the verdant swampy rivers of the PsyLatoric region where it makes its home. Well disguised by the murky waters and dense foliage it lies in wait for a suitable (i.e. living) creature to come within range of it's psychic energy draining pulses. Once hit with a rapid succession of these pulses the prey becomes dazed and disoriented. When the victim gets close enough the sucker rapidly pumps water through its heart-like outer body creating a massive vortex which sucks the hapless creature down to the Suckers gaping maw. The Sucker also has 5 tentacle mouths which it uses to drain it's prey of blood before crushing and digesting it with it's main set of mouths.

Went for blobs-like the sexy colours and pretty render
Azathoth:Nice design, could have used a little more attention to form though-lacking a touch of volume
NicHolS: Cool design, but for my money I'd have paid more attention to the render of the creature rather than adding the background-that said, it really gives a sense of the creature as a character, rather than just a design
CamSyko: Looks like liquify, but the swirly goodness, however you did it looks sweet;)
Gumish:really cool idea/design, perhaps the abdomen/back area is a little askew, but cool stuff nevertheless:)
Icecold: Very cool brains!!real nice rendering on them
Jack Nugget: QUite chaotic-but liking the goopy

MoralAmbiguity - got my vote, the most original idea of the whole bunch!
this round had some really great polished entries from some good artist though i did feel very let down in the range of ideas. way too many of them felt like they were the same tentacle blobs and didnt push any boundaries other then MoralAmbiguity. the horns were honestly the most original idea this round and sometimes simplicity is the best option. great round everyone, see you next time! :)

I apologize, I did not read we should post when we vote-
Won't happen again! :)
CamSyko Got my vote!
-I love the giant eye on the back concept, imagine a who swarm of those little guys all blinking at you as they scuttle towards you with those gaping sucker mouths and tentacles! Or imagine coming back from a swim and finding a staring eye stuck to your leg! Love the texture of the shell too!
Chronoperates
-This was a close second- I really love this one, and it is very well done! the whole idea of a creature so specialized for eating brains- the giant talons that hook under the color bone of it's victim was a nice touch (although maybe a bit unpractical for chasing prey?) and the "love brains" thought bubble cracked me up!
Gumish
-Very cool creature! Love the design and idea of how it digs under schools to get brain waves from students!
Jefferson oneal
-Your's is just plain awesome! Super cool idea and a very ambitious piece for a week-long turnaround (to a newb like me anyway!) would have been cool to see a breakdown of the actual creature it's self though.
Alien Ape Star
-Love the micro idea- something so tiny that we can't see it so it really could exist! Very well done too!
Crowsrock
-This one is great! Love the vacant expressions on the couple watching TV- and your explanation in the brief of how the creature gets stuck if brain waves were to low was hilarious!
I could go on and on but then my post would get way to long! :)
I'm very excited to be in this round and am looking forward to next week!

Nichols, Blobs and Gumish really stood out for me primarily because the rendering caught my eye.
If the challenge was for any creature, I would have gone with Nichols. It gives me a really creepy feeling and I can see something like this going right into a Half-Life game. However, it feels like the "Cthonic Psychic Suckerer" theme was bolted on to a really cool creature instead of being integral to it.
Blobs' creature could be a page right out of a D&D manual. Great design and very polished looking work.
I ended up voting for Gumish. I like that he moved away from the tentacle theme that many others had going on. I also like that the concept has specifics about the creature and it doesn't feel like a generic "psychic creature" paragraph to make the rendering fit the challenge.
Props to everyone who threw their hat in. It can be intimidating to participate in these challenges with all the great artists on this site.

I gave my vote to sclark - The idea really creeped me out, and although the work itself could have done with more detail (I'm sorry I don't know what your style is like usually) I think I got more than what I wanted - I'll probably have nightmares about the accursed thing now lol
I also liked NicHolS one - I thought it was rather horrifying. I liked the scene, (its good to see how a creature interacts with its environment) but perhaps it was done at the expense of detail on the creature and maybe lost the psy theme just a bit. I did like how they all seemed to be rising out of the sand, and one surfer has succumbed lol
My last favourite was ecochran - mostly because it wasn't a spectacularly gory idea. I thought it was cute and sad at the same time, that while it didn't prey on people, people preyed upon it. I found the concept in itself rather novel.

moralambiguity- gred idea! i wish more time was spent on the rendering though, i can still see the line drawing (unless thats what your going for :) ).
Hugeharar- love the way the description is written! and like the creature design a lot. i wish there was more detail. the character could stay loose, but it would be nice to see a little more description on the creature.
camsyko-that mouth freaks me out! haha. really enjoy the background.
blobs- great use of color and value!
icecold- the brain looks soo juicy! would like to have seen you push the design further though.
sclark- giving yourself more time would help. the line outlining the creature is flattening the drawing. blobs is a good example of how you can keep an outline on your creature but integrate that into the background.
chronoperates- love the sketch in the corner! cool creature design :)
jhoffle- more time! there is no distinguishing textures, mouth, underside, and backside all look the same. it would help to have an idea in your head of what the texture you want is, and then doing a little research on how it reflects light.
marsch- the only semi-hard lines in the entire drawing are the eyes, everything else is extremely soft. i think i would help to vary the soft and hard edges more. love the concept :)
alien ape star- great concept! very original :D
ecochran- i wish i could se the half of the body is obscured in the cave. three nose holes :) (love it).

Nichols - I think everything in your piece works. The background totally establishes the who, what, and where of the creature. One knows what's happening in a single picture and the description only clarifies the information. That's how I like stuff. If I couldn't read, I'd still know what that creature was about and to stay away.
I will say now that I only voted for Blobs for totally superficial reasons.

First of all, have to say that I´m not feeling confortable voting in this edition of COW because of my lack of participation...
But I spent some minutes reading the final entries and choose the Submineus Scholaris by Gumish. The creature itself are preety designed and their concept it´s funny (sometimes I do prefer the fun side of the monsters). ;-)
Anyway, there´s a lot of other interesting enterings (some better conceptualized than rendered), but I do prefer don´t write too much in this one.
Congrats for all.
ps.: yeah. I realized that I don´t get the idea in this Chtonich thing. Really miss the Pyschic part of the brief. Ouch!

Sadly I'm not going to get to comment on everyone's in any detail but..
Razorleaf I love this guy's character, although I think he's a bit flat looking, that might be partially down to the use of the texture.
Azathoth Great write up! Good form on the octo part of him, although the brain part looks flat.
MoralAmbiguity LOL, love this one and it's write up. I agree with NicHolaS that there's not much variation of creatures this time round and yours definitely stands out te most for being different. I think you need to render a bit more though as this doesn't look finished to me.
HugeHarHar I would've liked to have just seen the creature on this, so we get a better view. Looks good :)
NicHolS Yours was my second vote purely becuase I love your colour choices and painting skills. Fantastic stuff.
CamSyko 3rd choice for me, I love the lighting, his mouth and the eye. I don't think his legs look like they couldn't hold him up though
Gumish Yep your'e my top man/girl this round. Solid design and concept and I can see this in a video game, which I guess is what a lot of us would love to me doing! I'd love to see more rendering next time, really push that polish :)
Icecold Excellent stuff!
Sclark Nice idea, I think you could do with more polish though, push those values :)
Chronoperates Excellent stuff, but I do prefer the right hand image :)
Daveneale Weird and wonderful as always. Very cool stuff Dave!
jhofferle The head design on this guy is great, I do think you could push his body to look more interesting... nobbly bits on his underbelly rather than those lines, or maybe veins and or hair. I think once you have the basic shape like you have got here always try and think what you could add to the creature in the next stage of drawing to make it look more interesting.
Swellzombie Fannies and condoms.. mwhat more do you need for a cthonic monster! :D I love it.. it's weird as hell and disturbing, briliant! :D
Marsch I think you need to up the rednering on this, I feel you have a few more passes yet before this is classed as finished. Work some shapes together to make your monsters look more visually appealing, check out NicHolS, CamSykos and Gumish to see how they made the bodies of their creatures catch your eye.
Jefferson You win my vote for comedy elements! Good piece :)
Crowsrock As above, so below.. comedy wineth! I almost pity the rat :)
Alien Ape Star Weird and wonderful, great colour choices and ideas. Cool stuff :)
Ecochran Cute :)
RETEP Good stuff RETEP, I really like the head design, for some reason it reminds me of that Star Trek movie giant ship/monster that's trying to contact the whales on earth. :)
Volscalkur Interesting elements, and good design. Watch your forms :)
Dadoalmeida Weird and interesting design, cool stuff. Love the head design especially.
Jack Nugget Beautifully horrible and evil.. a bit too much saturated pinkyness for my eyes, but you've rendered his eye well. Cool :)
