Nice vid. Kinda reminds me off a thread on another forum about filming yourself when you went to the store to buy snacks.
But that's cool :)

If this is a sincere effort -- the biggest criticism I could give you is to stop being such an ego-maniac. Get some friends who also like to make videos and let them have a few credits as well. Nobody stars, directs, and runs camera for their own films.. when they do it turns out like the movie you just made.

i disagree with this, although i understand the sentiment.
chauncey you should look into film art, video art, and experimental film.
namely bruce numan, sadie benning, vito acconci, stan brakhage, peter campus, etc etc

Your second video you changed the link to feels more like art and less like a narrative. "The Artifact" felt more like a narrative piece.. and there were a lot of things you could do to sell your story better.
I would compare narrative filmmaking to illustration and the "Lost" video more to fine art. If your story doesn't come across well in illustration than it falls on the artist, not the viewer. If you can create a narrative style as a one man show than by all means do it.. Survivor Man does it, the Blair Witch project was very similar.. you still have to maintain continuity somehow and keep the story going.
And if you're interested in storytelling eventually you will need to branch into letting other people in on the project. Obviously you can't play all the roles of all the characters in your movies. Holding the camera might be a good gimmick for a few stories.. but it can't be the Chauncey show every time.

I guess you've not seen Primer, then? :) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390384/ Written, directed and lead-acted by Shane Carruth. One of my favourite films of all time.

Haven't seen it, but by looking at the IMDB credits I would say a few other people had a hand in making this movie Primer. That's my point.
Sound Department
Shane Carruth .... sound designer
Reggie Evans .... location sound
David Ho .... sound re-recording mixer (uncredited)
Camera and Electrical Department
Daniel Bueche .... camera operator
James Russell .... assistant camera
Anand Upadhyaya .... camera operator
Other crew
Chip Carruth .... caterer
Kathy Carruth .... caterer
David Sullivan .... production assistant
Thanks
Scott Douglass .... thanks

The editing sucks; theres no coherence to the way you work from one shot to the next and you are cutting the shots very long without any apparent reason. You aught to try and find better places to set up the camera for composition purposes. I'm seeing no attention paid to lighting; using natural lighting is artistic but only when its done in an interesting way.
Noone gives a shit about your life so we don't need to see a film about it. We might, however, give a shit about your films, but only if you learn to make good ones.

Um, because the film shows no actual training in the genre of film? If this guy is real then hes like the film version of all the artists who think they are doing something great because they made an image that "means something to them" but shows little actual skill and a lot of photoshop filters.
