What a h00t this was to do. Its basically a dude, who has been injured in combat(see wheels/stabelisers for feet), and he is leading a group of fighters to another fight, drumming his knee pad things as he goes :D

i can see the value in a guy carrying your banner and a guy drumming your war song for morale, but i always thought it was a bit of a waste that a perfectly good warrior should 'go to waste' like that. hence this thing where a weak, pathetic dude is strapped to the back of a warrior so he won't get killed in the fray.
just a quick photoshop thing, 30 mins or so.

Super-sketchy and I know the anatomy is off, but ah well. Today's topic made me think of a viking war band.

odd & plaf: I love both your takes on that idea.
toast: he looks so sad... I think it's great.

odd: buttrock! I love it :) I think the tank could use a bit more contrast, it seems really dark and immobile...
Cocofuppa: thats got a great neon-technopunk feel to it :) The characters expression doesn't convey much though ... the eyes don't really reflect the intensity of the smile.
Plaf: I always love your stuff, and the characters in this are great, but that border is killing me =/ It distracted my eye so much at first I couldn't tell what the heck was going on in the picture. After I got it, I knew what happened, and I think a less complex/foreground border would do it well.
Hunger_artist: amazing, I love it! That biohazard symbol on his wing is just perfect!

Cheers to those who had a sense of humor about this.
For some reason it sort of struck me wrong today. I think it had more to do with the idea of somehow glorifying war.
I get tired of that. I think we sometimes forget that it isn't an action movie. My dad was a medic in Viet Nam, and so I grew up with a real understanding of what war was about (killing people) and the long lasting effects it has on those who survive.
So, with that said, here's my work. It's about the cost of war. The drummer is death, the drum is those who give and lose their lives in the name of the politicians.
Happy Holidays.
http://www.in-sight.net/Sketches/300-war.jpg
CLARIFICATION: I felt it necessary to include a clarification - No one's post offended me, and no one posting offended me. And the topic didn't offend me.I just get tired of war, of hearing about war, of seeing war on the TV and the web, of knowing so many people that have been affected by war, of trying to explain to my kids why the hell we kill each other that sometimes... I just wish it didn't exist. It's my own interpetation of today's subject that I'm struggling with I suppose.
Peace to all, and to all, a good night.

I told myself that I wouldn't post, but here I am when I should be wrapping presents.
avalos -- I felt an emotional impact and subtlety in the black and white, but I think some of it got overshadowed by the color. There is a delicacy to the B&W that conveys a strange quiet and tension.
rho -- I love the little drummer boy, but the last one scares me -- looks sort of Apocolypse Now!
phantom_head -- nice composition and flow to the figure.
Oregano -- I understand you completely. I wish only the best for those who now share their lives with the effects of war.
Azmeos -- nice sense of form. I would experiment with light sources and varying values.
Wednesday -- she looks like a living flame, but peaceful just the same. You make me believe that the pixels are paint -- very poetic.
Valcon Jet -- Wow, he's mad! I hope he doesn't miss that drum...
nBT -- he looks like the M&M of war. A nicely realized character considering the paucity of detail.
Hunger_Artist -- you really use your visual language well, with little excess. I tried covering the head, and the picture fell apart. Every bit serves a purpose. Sometimes when I cover my own picture, it looks better!
Wundergeek -- you confessed that it was sketchy, but I must say that I love the composition and the negative space is used very well.
Plaf -- very practical. A lot of meaning with few lines. Your work always stands out.
Toaster -- I seethe in envy of those who use a painterly style effectively
Cocofuppa -- festive manic happy creepy -- well done!
Xaviuzz -- very iconic. It looks like Kali or one of those ancient fertility symbols -- it adds to the impact.
dfacto -- novel idea and a dead-on layout. You don't give yourself enough credit.
oDD -- we will open up your head and scoop out all of the secrets! *gets a can openner*
steapf -- very shocking and to-the-point
jook -- I think that your tortured process added to the feeling of your sketch. He looks like the war and the victim all in one.
PS __ awalloffire -- your image conveys a lot of meaning through its symbolism...it is now my personal favorite.
devilchild -- I think the monkey is staring at me!
Enough of war..Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone. I hope that the most we experience of war in the coming year is looking at these drawings.
Sorry about making comments, but it is Christmas, so I forgive myself.

A demon inside me said it's ok, you can miss one dsg. Don't worry you might have time tommorow. DEMON BEGONE! However not all demons vanished, the demon laziness yet remained.
So short on time, strength and ideas (I actually considered doing a portrait of Edwin Starr (Singer of WAR, huuah, what issss it good for, absolutely nothing) seriously first thing that came to mind, so once again short on a lot of things I pumped out a quick sketch. The idea is there at least.

Merry Christmas/Kwanza/Chanukah etc etc! Take it easy folks, I know I will.
Thanks, the idiot.

Painter started acting up, so I couldnīt fix a few problems in the background.
Concept: It is possesed by a demon of war. Everytime it sings it song, war starts in the vicinity.
Fortunatly It comes with a snooze button.
Oregano:I had a similar feeling when I saw the topic.
My first sketch was more along the lines of yours, but it didnīt turn out well. I like your interpretation.
Wednesday, Toaster, I like yours because of the strange calm that is in them.

oregano: hey, i hear you - there is definitely too much glorification of war going on. sounds like this touched you a little deeper than the rest of us, which is understandable if you've had it up close and personal like that. nice, expressive piece as well.
valconjet: thanks, i'll try to lay off the borders =) yours is great! wouldn't want to be him, though.
idiot apathy: like the morning atmosphere.
wystro: ta mate.
awalloffire: hmm.. that has loads of things for interpreting, doesn't it. i like it in a quirky kinda way =)
wednesday: nice dynamic in that one.
hungerartist: looks like a demon drummer. i like that style of yours.
toaster: me too!
all the best.
