"A carved ivory female figurine is presented in Tuebingen, southern Germany, Wednesday, May 13, 2009. The figurine, found in 2008 in a cave in Schelklingen, southern Germany is allegedly the world's oldest reproduction of a human with an estimated age of at least 35,000 years."

First of all I honestly had no clue there were people 35,000 years ago. Actually an article related to the above mentions that humans pretty close to where we are now "evolutionarily" have been around for 40,000 years. Who Knew? I can't help but be a little amused by the fact that the oldest existing figurative sculpture known to man, is a woman with gazongas the size of Texas. I wonder if the "artist" was in highschool at the time? Guys have always liked boobs.

Theres an interesting vid on youtube just about those statuettes and human representation in art if you're interested: Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vBWg6r5FKI&feature=related).
The odds are you wont agree with some of their statements but overall its a good watch that gives some food for thoughts.

BTW did anyone really need a crumbled piece of mammoth ivory to assume guys have always liked boobs? :P

Yup, even most women secretly like boobs.
That's how great they are.

They look like giant testicles to me.

Anyway I laughed when I saw that figurine...I suppose that it was some kind of porn for cavemen?

Some people think that might be the case.. But I learned at art history that they were probably to improve fertility, just like the cave drawings of animals were to have greater success with hunting.

here are some interpretations of these figurines.

Ha, great find.

The one thing I've got over you guys is that I actually live in Tübingen and my friends studies Archeology here, so I can go see it personally. WOHOOOOO!

Seriously though, I could've done better. =P

The subject is a matter of debate (and not the creationist kind of debate) but evolutionary biologists believe that biologically "modern" humans showed up somewhere around 250,000 years ago. I'm certainly not an expert, and if Bluefooted has some insight I'd love to hear it, that's just what I've read in my armchair paleo-archeology interests. Kinda makes you wonder what civilizations might have arisen that were simply too long ago for evidence to have survived.

But you got to wonder what was going through their head when someone carved this;

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d1/VenusWillendorf.jpg

It might look similar, but this was found in a village called Willendorf in Austria. Whenever you have no idea go to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_of_Willendorf); "The Venus is not a realistic portrayal but rather an idealization of the female figure. Her vulva, breasts, and swollen belly, are heavily pronounced, suggesting a strong connection to fertility. Her tiny arms are folded over her breasts. The figure has no visible face, her head being covered with circular horizontal bands of what might be rows of plaited hair, or a type of headdress." (I'm tempted to edit in brackets 'No shit' after 'The Venus is not a realistic portrayal')

I personally thought it was roughly around 1 million years ago. (But my knowledge of science is terrible, so I'll shut up)

Fertillity

and the symbol/concept stolen over and over and even villainised Masculine aka Hellboy. Hehe!!

That's why Christians go queer when they get into contact with these ancient sybols.

Being a man is the devil. Hehe!!

I had a chuckle when I saw the last movie; they actually go in and destroy the place of his true symbolic origin.

And when I realized what Madonna did with those cone cup boobs, moving the horns of intimidation over her softies.
Screwed with people's minds forever more.

Women with a bit of flesh on are actually more fertile than skinny females. Okay, it’s been taken to extreme. Also some cultures consider that being able to feed your woman to the extent that she puts on weight, shows wealth.

Yes... I think that overweight was a symbol of wealth right up until the day fast food was invented.

I've never heard of the nutcracker man. Actually I have, but probably not the one you're referring to. I may have studied this back in sixth grade but somehow forgotten it in the 25 years since?

That was exactly what I was thinking.

Well, the fertility statues (grossly obese women with huge breasts) were very common in the ancient European prehistory. For example, here are some statues found at the megalithic sites in Malta:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3b/Three_fat_ladies.jpg/800px-Three_fat_ladies.jpg
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/89/Venus_of_Malta.jpg/800px-Venus_of_Malta.jpg

Either she represented a fertility or some other kind of goddess, or she was their queen which they kept fed and pregnant like termites does.

Hey, I was looking at Goldfinger's diagram of female fat pads.

I just realised those are in fact the stuff that is hard wired in my mind. The stuff that jiggle's ontop of the muscle.

It's just that when we thing fat, we think huge, even a hot supermodel have those jiggles in all the right places. They are just a bit tighter. But yes, I guess the male mind is looking for fat.
