Hi, I have some questions wich I hardly could answer myself so I hope there are some ppl here who may have a proper experience to resolve my doubts)
I am 22 at the moment and I have just graduated from International Relationships university in Moscow, Russia but however I don't feel like being occupied in this sphere. Some years ago I bought my wacom tablet and since then Digital Art became one of my favorite hobbies. I attended some classes of traditional art, tryed to broaden my outlook, made an atempt to study hystory of art, composition, anatomy, theory of colours, and other aspects of 2d art through books, documentaries and video tutorials (few hundred Gigs of Gnom./Massive Black/ and so on.. stuff). Certainly there are noticeable improvements but since I try to keep my eye on game and film industry I'm familiar with the modern employer's demands from 2d artists and I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to face those until I get some reasonable educational grounds.
In Moscow there are still no universities specialized on teaching art for entertainment industry, so most of the russian digital art pros. are either self-tought (wich is twice difficult and time consuming) or had some experience of studying abroad. For now I haven't got any opportunity of studying abroad physically but I noticed that some universities and art schools have on-line divisions.
So the questions are:
-Is on-line education worth it if you really desire to have a job in the industry?
-What problems/pitfalls can I face studying on-line? (maybe some personal experience)
-Are there any preferable or well known schools/universities/whatever offering on-line education (if I'm interested in enviranmental/character design the most)?
-Can I get any valuable diploma or certificate studying on-line? (besides personal portfolio wich is the most important as far as I know)
-And what is an aproximate cost for such an education? (no precise numbers needed, at least some range of costs)
If anyone here can answer at least some of those questions or have had any personal experience of studying on-line please spare a couple of minutes and share your opinion, I would be very grateful.
Thanks for yout attention and your time $)
