I did a search and I don't know if this has been posted or not. Do pro artists play them etc...?

Yup! All things in moderation, though, of course. A few years back I got into the whole raiding guild thing in World of Warcraft and that was a mistake. I basically didn't do any personal or freelance art for 2 years.

That said, I play games maybe 1-2 hours every other day and it doesn't affect my current productivity. I am finding the right balance now after going completely in the wrong direction so I learned my lesson. Then again, WoW-years excluded...I find that I enjoy doing art more than playing games so it's not hard to balance.

I do so love a nice relaxing Xbox360 session on my couch though!

I used to play ALOT of video games in my mid teens. Since then I slowly became less interested in them purely as entertainment and September just gone I made the concious decision not to bring any gaming stuff with me when i moved out.

So i kinda enjoy them but they just eat too much time. I still try to keep up to date on a cultural level though and frequent some gmaing blogs etc. Just to keep my head in with current affairs.

You do know that the personalities of pros is as wide of that as noobs, if not more so.

Its not like thier brains all meld into one idea personality and all have the same habits, you will find pros that game alot, like arne, www.android-arts.com or you might find that other pros just dont touch them.

But its kinda stupid to not touch them if your in the games industry.

I also used to play a lot of games in my mid teens. Nowdays I focus mainly on those free lightweight ones that don't require much commitment/attention but at the same time provide some unique experiences.

In my games folder right now I have - Bomberman, Noctis IV, World of Goo, Sumotori Dreams, Perihelion (for Amiga emulator). It's either some very old stuff I keep on hard drive for sentimental reasons or something you could play for 10 minutes and turn off.

Maybe in future I'll go back to playing some hardcore games but right now if I could choose between buying game and video tutorial/book, it would be definately be this second thing.

A lot of professional concept artists were inspired by games, so it's not much of surprise that they still play them. I don't have much time to play them, but I still keep up with the industry in case I should be so fortunate as to one day land a job in it.
