if this isn't the proper forum for a recommendation thread, please feel free to move this somewhere more appropriate.

i'm going for a few months of personal study instead of going back for 2nd semester at OU (film dept. sucks IMHO) SO!...

What books would you, the conceptart.org-goer recommend for game design (from art improvement to programming, recommend all you like)

Try Sid Sackson's "Treasury of Games". Board games, and lots of 'em. I design games, and find reading games to be quite inspiring. Even if you don't design board games, the successful elements of challenge between players is universal.

I used to DM extensively in DnD and i got alot from that... i'm looking for something a bit more advanced.
