Sometimes a client has a strong story but they don't know exactly what they want for the visual look of their game or movie. Enter the ChanMan.

In this video we see Jason go through a broad range of stylistic iterations based on the same lead male character. The client can then use these ideas and move forward with a much clearer visual direction. This gets to the heart of concept art, and the more an artist is able to work in a variety of different styles the more he/she will be able to help a client, and get paid, and then have kids, or maybe a fast car.

Thanks a ton for this demo, Jason. I really enjoyed it. I personally thought it was your best demo yet. I loved how you talked about androgynism and demonstrated Nomura's Final Fantasy-type art. I was never sure if there was ever a technical name for it, but it's certainly better than anime. Hope to see more soon~

Bought it and watched it and it was great! I wasn't so interested in the whole style exploration thing - I've enough trouble just drawing normally :dur: but I picked it up just to see the ChanMan doing some quick figure drawing. My craving was fully sated! I haven't done anything but two half-assed sketches for months, sadly, but this video got me to pick up the pen and get busy. Heh, in fact, my hand hurts a little.
