Just wondering what your opinions of RMCAD in general and more specifically their illustration program are. I'm pretty sure it's where I want to go, but I'd like some opinions that aren't just from the school website. =)
Thank you!

RMCAD is my third choice school. It's in a neat area and (if you applied early) they give you a fair amount of scholarship money if you qualify.

UArts in Philadelphia (not the college of Fine Art!) was my first choice solely for the area, not so much for its program. However, I was rejected because my GPA wasn't high enough for them (they wanted 3.0 minimum... which is strange for an art school).
SCAD is my second choice/new first choice, in a way. I am more confident in their reputation, strength of courses, facilities, area, and price. (I'll ignore all of the crime accusations. Crime can happen anywhere, anytime. No place is 100% safe.)
RMCAD is in a cool location. It's surrounded by both artsy and typical city elements, so there's always something to do. It sort of reminds me of both AAU and SCAD, but with a slightly more traditional-looking campus and isn't in an expensive city (like San Fran). And it's true when they say the air in Colorado is cleaner!

Hi...I actually live in Denver and have been to the RMCAD campus many times for portfolio days.
RMCAD is ok. If you want to go to a really small school then it would be good for you. The campus is little but it's actually really pretty and the facilities are pretty good. However the area around campus is less than desirable and that's the general consensus of most people who've been over there that I know. I wouldn't call the area "artsy" or "neat" either. I have a close friend that attended RMCAD but was unhappy with his experience and now goes to state.
Anyways good luck figuring out which school to go to!

Think about your ultimate goals and the skill base you need. Be sure to check out the year end shows, speak to current students and recent grads. Schools are living organisms and are constantly changing. Reputation is not always reality. Think ahead. What is the tuition? if you are getting a superior education that will most likely lead to a job that pays well, high tuition may be worth the investment, but, if you're not wealthy, are there other options
that will give you a strong a skill base? Can you take some unrelated courses elsewhere at lower tuition and transfer the credits? Do yo have to go after a BA? Will it make a difference to your career? Are there any schools near you that offer intensive training in basic fine art (traditional) skills that have lower tuition than a BA program? Can you live at home or with relatives?
