OK I'm biting the bullet.
Attempting to draw every day and have something to post.
For now I'm going to post the sketch work I'm doing of Joan of Arc for CHOW.

As always crits welcome and appreciated.

The first sketch was an attempt to get her character. The second is an observation sketch from posemanics.com that had the right atmosphere of what I was going for. The third is me adapting the sketch to a female figure. The fourth is adding basic armor shapes, my idea is for her to be wearing oversized armor because it wasnt made for women and she moved through her military career very quickly, and would have trouble finding gear.

Joan so far, cleaned up the linework and armour. Not sure what I'll do next - I might move into photoshop or do pencil shading. Its difficult as I am away from my personal scanner.

would love to see more! draw from life as most you can ... i definatly think you should use the side of your pencil or charcoal or whathave you :) to describe the form and shape of an object by its value instead of line

Zorcron, thanks for the encouragement. I do neglect drawing from life so will try and do more. I decided to jump in with the pencil shading as CHOW deadline is Monday, and want to see if I can post a final image.

Heres my shaded Joan, not concentrating on the background at all, just there for scale and character placement. Any crits? Starting to think maybe her chainmail coif on the head needs adjusting, what do you guys think?

Bear with me if size and quality is funny, using photoshop elements on my parents pc to process it for the web instead on CS2 on my own pc.

Edit: Hmm, it looks somehow crsuhed vertically, and the contrast is too high so I'll change it and post it later

Edit2: ok this is new scanned version, havent made any changes except the contrast is now better, and ofc the chow stuff

Ok, i know I havent posted anything in the last few days. But no access to a scanner. Heres some stuff to prove I have been drawing every day, most of the figure stuff is after looking at the George Bridgman book, Constructive Anatomy. Which I found through MindCandyMans sketchbook.

If you want to see the full bridgman book for free, heres a link:

Ok, I havent posted for a few days inbetween.
I havent been doing much drawing, mostly as Ive been spending 5-7 hours a day doing Maya experimentation and tutorials, and what I have done doesnt need showing really.

I think posting every day has gone out of the window, but i will try and consider it each day to motivate me into doing something.

What I do have to show you then is my two air speeders. I had an idea about using turbo-fans (kind of like the one off of a hovercraft) to make alight fast, scout ship. The idea kind of evolved and moved around, and now I have a bunch of ideas for similar vehicle designs.

Im actually intending to make a chase scene animation out of these two, (see google sketchup images). So need to build environments and particle effects. I did do some work on a walker as well which I dont have a picture of, you can see the city walker design in one of the previous posted sketch pages.

Enough jibba-jabba, more pictyar!

Gosh, a post!
My idea as a robotic bodyguard. It's role is purely protection, with an extendable shield on each wrist that can expand to any size needed (within reason).

The robot would work as a partner with one or more other robots, whose role would be to eliminate threats(ie. gunbots), whereas this one protects the target only.

The slightly feminine appearance of the BX-101 is designed to put people at ease, particularly children whom it may escort.

5 days without a post, I feel really lazy.
I've just had an exam week though including a 3 hour MAYA practical, so I wanted to take some time out and chill, excuses...

j1wcso thanks! I only started on MAYA at the start of this term (January), you really have to just get stuck in, and grind some tutorials. These vehicles take me a lot of hours to do at the moment, but I can feel them getting faster and I make less mistakes as I go on.

Would you like me to link you some good resources and web tutorials?

I havent done any environments in particular yet, so I would be really interested to see what you have come up with.
I have done a level design for my university course in Unreal Tournament Editor 3.0 (for Unreal 2, The Awakening - dont ask, the version numbers are really confusing), which I guess is as close as I come to environments so far.

Zorcron Thanks for the comment! I did product design at college, so orthographic drawings arent new to me. I'm gonna really go to town on this IDW because its a month long, and I dont have any of my whiney excuses about being bad in photoshop to fall back on - I get to work at it. Watch this sapce.

Working on the pose for the robot, think I pretty much got it worked out. Aiming to get things done tomorrow and put up some early photoshop work.

Update: yeah so i didnt get anything in for the IDW, I has some stuff, but i just hate it when I look at it, so i get disheartened and dont want to continue. Im not dealing with the learning curve very well. will post next time I do something I like.
