I'd say if you're really interested in illustration then start doing it, today! Put down enough mileage on paper and you will eventually get there.

I like your little girl, it's very sweet. Do more of that, but simultaneously also try to draw from life. If you're not used to it then it will feel awkward at first, but don't give up. It's important because it fills your head with all kinds of imagery which you can later use in the drawings you pull from imagination.

Keep it up! :)

i also find it difficult to stay positive, but i think you have the right idea in that last multicolor sketch...i try to never erase something before i draw in a possible solution and i like the idea of doing 'repair' in several colors. its' coming along nicely, i especially like the hand that's by her face.

For the portrait in post #7, I think it's that the eye that is closer to us is a bit wide, so it appears to be less foreshortened and therefore on a different plane in space that far eye. But I'm not totally sure about that, that's just how it looks to me. Maybe look at some photos of heads and pay attention to how the eyes foreshorten as the face angles away from the camera. Good luck!

Good works! I love the value study, I think it has come along really well! For your figures, I'd recommend taking a more constructive approach. Loomis is a very good start, I'm currently with his books.
Keep at it!

thanks :)! i have Andrew Loomis' books but i'm currently using a book by Michael Hampton (http://figuredrawing.info/) for figure drawing. I study anatomy with two books open so I'm constantly matching his diagrams with pictures of muscles from another book.
