Ok, so I'm working on a 3d abandoned industrial scene for my portfolio. It's not done yet, but I thought I might post some in-process shots, and see if anyone has any input.
First, a couple renders of the scene (geometry is 75% there). Lots of temporary textures, and very quick lighting.

I spent most of today refining and texturing buildings. Here's a look at how those are going:

Hopefully I'll have all the modeling, texturing, and lighting finished by sunday. but... we'll see. :)
Oh yeah. I'm using many of my own photos for reference, and for textures. Some of the ones that inspired this scene are online here:

Great idea! I love stuff like this.
The textures are definitely going to need some work but I really like the work you've done so far.
For some reason, I'm drawn to stuff like this. I don't know what it is but I absolutely love to look at old abandoned buildings. The links to images of these buildings provided on this site are incredible.

Thanks everyone, glad you like 'em!
canim8: Yep, I've spent all day today making new textures, and I'll work on them most of tomorrow too. Here's a test render of one of the new ones, with a human mesh to show how badly I messed up the scale. :)

stephen: It's nice to be WORKING on something other than space ships and asteroids. :)
epiphany: The textures are huge. I'm making them from photos, and I keep them as high-rez as the original shot. (So the biggest are probably 2048x2048, though most are closer to 1024x1024.) When I'm all done I'll scale them so that the in-scene texels are all a comparable size.

Though I'm sure I'll spend some more time tweaking it. And... heh, I've got it textured from all angles. It would be silly not to do an animation. :) But for now, I need sleeeeeep.......
