Hi everyone,
my name is Sebastian, I am 21 years old and I live in germany.
At the moment I don't know what to say here, but to show you some of my latest studies. I really want draw better so I decided to work my way through the loomis books to get some fundamental knowledge of anatomy, I ignored until now ...
So here we go.
I hope i did nothing wrong with uploading the pics...
Edit: Aaaaah, had to remove the first 10 studies in order to get a funny sketchbook thumbnail -.- :p

Hey - welcome to CA :yayca:
The studies are looking good - keep doing those! I can also recommend all books by Bridgeman.
The self portraits are also a great way to learn, and the last one look pretty good considering you have just started taking art "seriously".
Do regular updates :D

Hey Fumble, Thank you :) I'll try to do updates as regular as possible!
So here is one new Loomis study considering shapes
and some work scanned from my current sketchbook, sorry for the bad image quality ... my scanner sucks a bit (or perhaps I do, cause I don't know how to scan? -.- :D )

Here are some updates
I had a busy weekend and I didn't find the time for the selfportrait ... so I made up for it tonight
I tried to use only line and contour, no shading .... it really sucks, there are no similarities .... I had one hour (cause I have to go to bed now), and that surely wasn't enough time for me ...
Critic and comments are always welcomed :)
Good night :p

Good stuff, keep those studies coming. Good to see you playing in your imagination too. Always a good thing. Be nice to see how you improve over the time. I should sketch more too. Thanks for sharing.

Keep it up mate, you're definitely doing the right kinds of studies.
Watch those football eyes! Eyes are spheres set into sockets, not flat planes.

heyhey
Daemien Thanks for your comment :) sometimes I do not have the heart to sketch what I have in my imagination, because I am afraid that I will "destroy it" ... I hate that.... I am sure that I just SHOULD draw that stuff, I just can learn.
DeeLock Thank you! Yeah I really want to go through the whole two books and learn all that anatomy stuff! I havent done so much yet, but I already have a better feeling sometimes :)
So here is some new stuff: Some studies, some stuff of an sketchbook of mine and this weekends self-portrait.
Critic, comments and every kind of help welcomed :)

Hey,
here is some new stuff of my current sketchbook.
Two story telling things I tried, and some other (weird) things :p
and a sheet of loomis studies I did tonight ... but unfortunately I was distracted ... should have stopped to draw and really concentrate ... hope I will do better next time
here we go

Update
I was too lazy the last days ... so it can only get better the next week I hope :)
Eiki
May 17th, 2009, 05:45 PM
One weeks stuff?! :( ok
So here are some quick poses from posemaniacs and some studies and other sketches.
I used some Auto-Contrast filters in photoshop, just to play a bit with the line, cause the scanned things doesnt look good for me ...
With the portraits I really don't get it, when I think now it looks quite fine and view the result in the mirror it looks so "displaced" ... I might check the next longer selfportrait in the mirror while it is in progrtess perhaps, not when it is finished ^^ And I really have to take more time ..
So here we go :)
And next days I want to work harder.

Nice sketchbook - one can really see how you improove.. Just compare your latest slefportrait with the one in your first post..
And also keep studies coming - and always remember not only to copy the pictures, but try to think _why_ the lines are how they are, and what structure is discribed with the lines. I hope to see more stuff of yours soon..
und wir beide scheinen mit unseren scannern auf kriegsfuß zu stehen, hm?^^

some of ur ppl profiles look a little like superman around christmas, the large chest and relatively smaller hips. try to draw some varied body types - really thin, medium and extra chunky. keep up the good work guy

Heyhey
thank you for your comments :)
Demodeus: Thank you, but this weekends new selfportrait is a regress again ...
Jesus Food: Jeay thanks. I want to do some studies with different body types soon ..
quackart: jay, must work harder ... the last weeks weren't the best ... neeks weeks i want to work twice as much :) uuuuuuuh hope I will
mrpank: Yeah thanks for your comment and the tips. There is great and inspiring stuff on the page you linked :) thank you.
So this week again no update ... and I hate me for that. But I was quite busy with an acryl painting I did for a friends birthday. I do not have a photo at the moment, but I will take a picture soon and post then.
Apart from that I did some posemaniac studies (about 100 1 min and 30 5 min)
Here are 5 sheets
But the new selfportrait sucks :( again I started when I had not enough time ... and then I rush and loose motivation and then this happens ..... so the next ones must be better again :)
Hope to post sooner again now :)
Thanks for watching

Hey ;D
You did a lot of pose maniacs, huh?
Some of them allready look very good for beeing just quick pose sketches!
And do not worry about your portrait.. Art needs time.. Esecially shading! Try to work with much smaller strikes on your shadings, and try to use many types of pencils, to get a good variation of tones ;D
You dont always have to make every drawing in one sitting, so if you do not have enough time to make your shading properly its nothing bad if you just do your shading as good as you can as long as you can.. then stop drawing and restart when you have enough time to do more ;D
Of course this is always quite difficult when your drawing from life, like self portraits, because your position and the light will always be a little different.. but then your just learning.. you don't need to finish your drawings at all cost, just try to take your time and learn as much out of your studies as you can ;)
Eiki
May 28th, 2009, 01:25 PM
Hey Demodeus: Thanks for your comment and tips. I think that I will try using some different pencils with the next selfportait. But I was told by my teacher in school or i read in a magazin or book not to use too many different materials in a study ... so I tried to work with one medium in all my studies.
I really like to experiment with combining diofferent mediums in my sketchbook, and there can be nice results, but with my studies I tried one medium, particularly one pencil. But using different pencils in order to improve shading and line quality sounds worth a try :) :) thank you.
And yeah, ypu must be correct: Often it would be better to take the tiome for a drawing and do it in more session. I tend to be a little (or little more) impatient... and for that selfortrait I wanted to finish at the weekend ... so I had to finish it fast monday night :( But next time I must begin earlier! Than I can take more time! Thanks for that good kick in the pants :D
Today I was in the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, sketching some cars etc :) Have a new sketchbook, the old one is full juheeeeeeeeee! :)
And some studies, now I really have to work with that model to get the basic I think.I must work not rush I think ...
Critique, comments and any kind of help or smalltalk welcomed :)

Your studies are coming along quite nicely, it's always good to keep practicing. I wouldn't mind seeing some of your finished work. Keep posting.

It is amazing to see your work improve so much over this thread. Having said that, I'm kinda new here and am impressed pretty quick I guess ;p
Anyway, I noticed that when you use your books there is always good use of perspective, but as soon as you put it in practice the drawings tend to look flat and many times you even tend to try from a frontal view, which is boring and well.. flat.
But you're on a good way, keep on it!
Edit: My teachers kept on telling us to use the book "How to draw the Marvel way" by Stan Lee if it comes to perspective drawing (and other things as well of course). I also like the book "Drawing Force" by Michael D. Mattesi, it's a total different look on how to draw figures.

heyhey
nurraymjo thanks for you comment. i really would like to show you some finished works ... but ther is no recent -.- I don't know why, but I never know what to develop further and so I only try to learn and sketch ....
Ah, I have one finished work, I hope that I can take a photo this week, then I'll show :)
Draco Dralion Hey, thank you for that motivation! Though I am not that impressed of my progress as you seem to be (I must work harder ... I didn't reach all the goals I wanted last week :( ) I am happy to hear that.
Yeah I think that at the moment it's of course easier to use front view (especially when I do a selfportrait). There I can measure quite easier, and I hope to learn so what the proportians are ... but I want to make more stuff in perspective from now on. Thanks for pushing me.
So here are some recent studies ... after all I think that I have learned a lot in the last weeks and that I better know the proportion and see more the mistakes I do ... but this is the beginning. Now I have to use that new knowledge and do more own stuff not just copying those studies ....
Ah and I missed this weekend's selfportreit ... that bugs me -.- but I'll start it tonight and finish this week, that at the weekend I can do number 9 as I should.

Hey,
just a little update, a gif I did for dun. Discussed that idea with a friend some weeks ago and we thought it woul be very funny.
Well it doesn't exactly look, what I tried but its just silly (and funny) and that it should ^^
Enjoy :p

Hi,
here is the sp of the last weekend, which I finished today -.-
I measured so many times and it should be correct but it isn't ... my face isn't taht wide ... and my nose is not as well ....
next time I must consider my "feelings?", "own imopression?" too, not only the measurements ....

It's amazing to see how your self-portraits are progressing. I'm loving your figure studies and work on the face/skull. Need to do more of that myself =).
Inspiring! Keep it up!

Tonight just a small update sadly ...

And a sheet of 5 min posemaniac studies

hey eiki you're progressing really nicely! measuring is good and all but i say follow your gut on the next sp. I see that you're simplifying a lot of shapes to how you think they look, so don't be afraid to draw something like a noes as a combination of unusual and haphazard lines rather than the expected "nose" shape. keep it up!!
Eiki
June 12th, 2009, 05:29 AM
Hey papervampire :) Big thanks for the tips! I didn't notice that while studying proportion stuff and measuring quite much and often, that I drifted away an simplified the "objects" I tried hard to place correct ... But I see, you must be correct! So thanks for showing me that :)
The 9th portrait is nearly finished (when I am home again and have time I'll finish this (again some days to late :( argh)
But with the 10th portrait this weekend I want to try to look closer and really paint what I see. I want to learn that!
Eiki
June 14th, 2009, 05:22 AM
Hey,
small update for now.
Could someone tell me what is correct and what is wrong with that perspective study I attached? I really am uncertain about perspective ... Did so many other studies as well, but I only know the basic things to be correct ... and the more different things as these are always confusing.
Thanks for advices and comments :)

Hey,
small update again.
Some hand studies I was quite happy with at the moment.
I decided to play a bit with them in photoshop, but I am completely noob digitally ... but ok, the journey just begins

Eiki, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook.
You are definitely showing a ton of improvement from the start of your sketchbook, and its been pretty quick too. These last hand studies here are great, the lines look much more confident and fluid. Good work, lets see more of it!

A very interesting sketchbook. It's neat to see how you take such a scientific approach. A lot of being able to draw accurately is simply training your eye to see what's really there. It just takes time and practice. You are definitely off to a great start. The hands look wonderful.

June 19th, 2009, 05:04 PM
Hey,
biggjoee5790 Thanks, the hands aren't from photos, but my own left hand from life (some viewed in a mirror) I nearly got a cramp with some poses ^^
safesheep Thanks. Yeah want to do much more but I hardly have time ... again it's so late ... but I'll manage that!!
OmertA Thank you :)
nurraymjo Thanks :)
Pixie Trick Thank you :)
Thanks all for your comments. I decided to do some very basic shape and value studies in form of an apple still life. Because I really suck in values ... And I was quite satisfied with the result. But the scanned pics are extremely bad this time, don't know why ....
In real life there are much better values ... :( Would like to show you how it really looks ...
So here they are.
Aaaaah I want to sleep now, then I can get up earlier tomorrow and paint :)

Fantastic work on the first apple; the part with the shape is very convincing and wonderfully rendered. The second one is a little sketchy; but if you a keep working on studying complicated forms and breaking them down you'll get it. :]

Hi
mpdpsy Thanks! Now that I am "back" i really want full speed :) Hope I will
Shalite Yeah thanks for pushing me :) I really have to do maaaaaaaany more of these and that and ... I will get better :)
Darkside Thank you :)
Eva K Thanks :) I'll try harder again!
Longer time I didnt post here because of vacations and a very stressful time in work and little time because of an exam ... But now the exam is over and I will be back and I hope that I wll work harder again! I realized how I missed drawing as well as how I sucked more after that break again..
So let's go now :)
Here is some stuff I did in between ... Some is quite üäh ^^
For the next week I set up the goal to create a char after a brief description, because I often do not really know what to do...
Points are:
- female
- polar bear
- weapon is unusual
- begins a journey
Will show some wips with another post... now I don't feel to scan more things ...
Critique, comments and any kind of help, or smalltalk welcomed
Eiki
July 22nd, 2009, 10:51 AM
Hi
I had no internet at this pc (where i scan my pics etc) so there was no chance to update earlier...
Here are some sketches of the char I announced, hope that I'll to a digitally paintover and a scene until Sunday.
Eiki
July 26th, 2009, 04:36 AM
Hi
so here are the digital concepts ...
What do you think, considering it should describe the character?
What could I do better here?
I see I totally ignored all the big points except that she is female at that stage .... not good.
- female
- polar bear
- weapon is unusual
- begins a journey
Last thing to do is a little scene, here I must mind the other points at least.
There are two similar version, one with dark black shodow stuff ... cause I didn't like here floating as in the first version ... so I added the shadows to let her stay more on the ground, but now it feels very disturbed I think and sidetracks from the char ...
So here we go.
Pretty_Angel
July 29th, 2009, 02:52 AM
Nice start-up here! I think hand studies are the best so far. You really should do more of these since your drawing from imagination needs a little push. But all in all you're on a good way! :D
zou
July 29th, 2009, 09:27 AM
Your studies are good, keep on them
for this last figure:
-check his proportions (using heads like loomis does)
-since it's a stading pose, you can copy one from loomis's book then tweak it (even professional start from ready posed figure to design)
-check anatomy from a book
-the description is not really matching the figure: you should choose either tamer or warrior, then collect some photo of real warrior or tamer and pick how they are dressed, wich tools they uses, (perhaps a scares from the bear)
I difinitely recommand you do more studies(copy books, anatomy, copy masters, life drawing, poses ....) than drawing from imagination.
studies pays, and remember : no pain, no gain.
keep posting, see ya

Hi
Pretty_Angel
Thanks. Yeah I think I should do more of these, especiallly cause it was fun :)
What do you mean with "needs a little push"? I think that I mistranslated it perhaps
zou
HEY! THANKS A LOT FOR THIS COMMENT! I think it really helped me a lot! Most useful critique I ever got perhaps (not to make other comments bad :p but to make this one better)! Because it really motivated me and was kinda straight little critique!
The "funny" thing here is, that I started using loomis and build the clothes over the loomis poses...
But now I am motivated to make it better next time!
Yeah, the description I really ignored a bit ... aaargh ^^
And now: Study study study
Thanks
Did some studies here I cannot be satisfied with .... ooooooooh and that digicam is tilted ...
But I wont give up
So here we go
(There are loomis poses for a man I want to use as a basefor a new char ... but first studies, studies, studies I hope)

hey
just decided to continue doing the 100 head workshop from cgtalk
(http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=199&t=375031)
I started but dropped a while ago ... 19 I did, so I have 81 to go.
I hope that in combination with learning from loomis I can make some progress .. But one thing is for sure: I have to work more :)
Here is No. 20
BlackDelphin
August 17th, 2009, 12:42 PM
Nice, nice..VERY nice :teeth:
I wanted to tell you about your proportions on that original character, but i see you have already done some loomis poses and you have no more trouble with that at all!
Your posemaniacs are good too! :D
Eiki
August 19th, 2009, 07:02 AM
BlackDelphin Thanks :) When I draw and paint I sometimes feel that I have trouble with nearly everything :p But thats just one challenge I want to stand! So I will work to improve, thanks for the kind words.
When I started the 21 head and noticed, thats the only pic left (of that 100) with a scene and many heads in it, I decided not to rush over it, but to make a longer study.
There is so much to learn in this piece I think. Not only anatomy, but light, mood, composition, colors, etc etc.
So here are some wips I have so far.
Started with a sloppy block in and a little finer line drawing.
Then I added a new layer with multiply to paint black and white values in the scene.
But now I do not really know when or whether to merge the line drawing with the black and white layer ... I do not really know the (a good) process to go along in such a painting.
Or did I make any big mistakes yet?
Perhaps someone knows some answers or tips :) Thanks for your help.
So here we go.

Hey
for the next 2 weeks I'll be away in a holiday (camp as a person in charge).

Hey
I am back (but do not have much to show yet).
But one master copy: I began with soft brushes, but now I am sure that softbrushes is no good for me ;) Hard brushes are cooler for me I think.
And an update of that longer study of the "de bray family"
Btw:
Yesterday I visited the musical "Wicked" in Stuttgart and it was indescricable! Wonderful! I am jinxed (if I can say so in English ^^) :)
If you have the chance you must visit that! I want again! :)
So back to topic, here we go:

September 17th, 2009, 07:26 AM
Hey,
That long study of the family is looking good. You asked a few posts up whether you should merge your linework layer with the one with values. Well, I usually end up merging them, because when I simply discard the lineart the painting beneath it looks suddenly messy, hehe, so I prefer merging and painting on top of the lines. I usually am not sure, though, so I duplicate the lineart layer and keep it invisible in case I need it later;)
Good work, keep going :)
Eiki
September 18th, 2009, 10:55 AM
Hi
Thanks Gildorek I haven merged the line drawing yet, but I paint on a layer OVER the line and first shading layer ... I hope that this isn't a very wrong thing I do, because it feels quite fine atm.
In a way it's like painting the image again on top of what I had ... perhaps not too efficient ^^ but that shouldnt be the problem NOW i think.
Here is some sketchbook stuff and some little thumb enviros
.. to show something :p

Another Wip of the family study. Now I have painted everything a bit :P Must go over all again to make things look correct and perhaps add some details here and there, and then finally I hope that I can color it ...
Here is a Gif showing the progress as well, because it's now quite some updates ...
2 watercolor experiments as well..
Here we go.

Keep doing those studies, you're progressing very nicely:). Try doing some self portraits from different angles (not from the absolute front, but say, a 3/4 view).

October 4th, 2009, 12:23 PM
Hi
kingkostas Hey thanks :) Yeah I have to doublecheck, triple- aaargh quatrocheck the proportions I think :D But I will try!
RedSquirrel Thanks for your comment :) I am very bad at colors, therefore I have not too much of it .... but I must learn that too. In this post there is a first approach. Hope that I can do more little posemaniacs studies again in the next time.
nurraymjo Thanks :)
Flameseeker Thank you :) That was my plan for the next time ^^ Since I do not have some models which I could draw I wanted to do selfportraits from different angles this time... Will see how it turns out ^^
Thanks for the replies! That really helps me a lot!!
So here is some new stuff.
Tried to color the WIP just to see what I have expected: That there were some big problems with values ... But it helped, and I could fix some things ... will work on that black and white again this week.
Some perspective stuff and some studies just trying to catch motion ...
The "pharao like" portrait I drawed without ref turned out too resemble my selfportaits as I rendered the values looking in a mirror aaaaaaaaaargh ^^
But shouldn't talk so much, better paint now.
Critique, comments and any kind of help, or smalltalk welcomed :)

Yeah it's hard to get the likeness right with self-portraits, but it's more important that you get the general form and value right so don't consider it a failure just because it doesn't look like you ^^ Anyway, great studies dude. I love the first page and all the loomis studies and head studies. Try to stay in the habit of doing studies of that nature between your imaginative work. If you keep going back to those studies over time, you'll be able to extract more and more information to improve your drawings from imagination. Keep up the good work!

For the big selfportrait you made watch out for the construction of the skull..
Likeness will come in time,, just keep doing them and then BAM! .. its like looking into a mirror! ;) And its also quite normal to stylize yourself a little when you are doing a selfportrait.. You mind tends to do that :)
Anyway! Keep up the good work!

Heyhey!
Thank you all for the lot of replies here :)
That realy motivates me to post more often and consequently to draw and paint more!
latigid Thanks :)
Thisisbiblo Thank you :P
dierat Yeah thanks for the tip! This sounds ok for me :P Hope to improve that way yeah
rogerb :) Yeah loomis helped me a lot and I am still in the beginning of the books and my journay :) Hope that I can show more self portraits soon.
realextension Thanks, I will
GeoD Yeah thanks mate! :) That seems to be the best thing to improve! Thanks for that motivation, gonna do an b/w environment or some posemaniacs studies (or both ^^) now!
Two 10 or 15 minute portraits I did in the train to/from on friday.
Tried to give him some *what shall I call that grey? tone? ^^*

October 10th, 2009, 08:31 AM
Hey, good start. Loomis is a great place to learn but you shouldn't just copy his stuff but come up with own poses and so using his ideas. I think your efforts will pay off, keep on drawing
Eiki
October 12th, 2009, 04:07 PM
Hey
TedNindo Thanks for the tip. I recognised that I always copied ... but I felt more "secure" like this ... I'll try to do both, studies from loomis but also own poses from now. With heads I have tried some yet ... must do more
Here just a little wip of a master head.
I am kinda happy: After that head the next ~10 will all be carravagio studies :)

October 15th, 2009, 03:48 PM
Totally love your progress, your studies are much more fluid and dynamic, loving that. I'm also loving how you're not drawing 'pretty' people that are perfectly shaped ;) Drawing people you see is a good way to learn, so props for doing that. Keep up the great work!

October 15th, 2009, 04:13 PM
I'm lovin' the progress in this SB -- can't wait to see the finished "Family" pic! :D
Heads and hands are super-hard (and kind of important), so draw draw draw.. Keep at it, don't stop!!! :teeth:
Cheers! :^^:

Hey
kuebiko Thanks. The past days I hesitated drawing people in the train ........ Not good :( Next occassion I will draw again!
AmontilladoAg Thanks for your post and the motivation! Yeah I want to see the family final too :p will work at it!
Today some older eviro attempts ^^, one new head (not really finished but theres some things I like) and some pages of my current sketchbook. Each page looks so different atm :D
Hey and wanted to show you the cover of my current sb. just doodled on a paper .... but I liked it xD
Feel free to comment and criticize :) It will help me I am sure, thanks :)
Eiki
October 25th, 2009, 05:15 PM
Hi,
some fun with earliest frankentsteins monster concept I started ^^
And on page of my current sketchbook.
But the pencil always smears over .... and the lines vanish oder look bad -.- ......
Do you have a good tip what to do against that? In other sketchbooks that stuff looks sooooo great .... I don't know what I can do
Thanks for tips :)
Eiki
October 26th, 2009, 05:02 PM
Worked about 2 hours more on that family piece (men I am slow!).
Worked primarily on the women at the right and on the plate at the bottom.
Darkened the wall a bit (bottom) to draw the attention more to the center of the pic (the family) I hope. Must highlight the very center in the very end I guess.
Next time I'll flip the canvas and try to fix all that mistakes I spotted when I checked the flipped image today ... it didn't look good -.- The original side I work on looks much better aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh ^^
Bah! Here we go! Must draw and paint. I'm away
Eiki
October 27th, 2009, 01:49 PM
Argh ....
Now that I am looking at the family pic here on my laptop I realise that in some areas the colors look soooo ugly.... The dog looks black and blue "dotted". On my desktop pc where I paint it looked much better ....
Is there any possibility to get the "right" colors? Does anyone know what I mean and has a tip how to work against that problem?
Thanks for your help! Cause it really annoys me... in other threads everything looks great as well on the lappy as on the desktop ... but my work differs soooo much -.-
Ian Barker
October 27th, 2009, 02:05 PM
For getting the color right, try studying some master artists who used a similar color scheme, such as Rembrandt.
Great to see all this hard work, keep it up!
Eiki
October 29th, 2009, 10:26 AM
Hey thanks for your reply Liffey :)
This family study is a master copy, but the problem isn't that I cannot get the colors right but that it looks different on my desktop and on my laptop...
On my desktop pc were I work I would say that the colors are "right" (perhaps not perfect but quite cool I think ... But on the laptop it looks completely different ....
And that's not good .... does anyone know where this effect comes from or what I could do?
Sorry, this post again without something to show (I am not at home atm)
But this problem here really bothers me ......
Thanks for your help :)

The only way to help is to calibrate your monitor. You can use this free tool (http://www.photofriday.com/calibrate.php) to help you adjust your brightness and contrast (and I think there are other free tools and software out there that you can use; I haven't really looked), or you can buy a piece of hardware that will calibrate your monitor for you (like this one here (http://www2.chromix.com/colorgear/shop/productdetail.cxsa?toolid=1119&-session=SessID:535753EA1af490FD94GOG214188B)). Here is an article (http://www.wikihow.com/Calibrate-Your-Monitor) that talks about different ways of calibrating your monitor.

dierat Thanks for the tip. But perhaps it isn't too bad to have so different monitors, because I might see problem zones, which I wouldnt have seen on my "painting monitor"
Unfortunately not much to show.. but a random doodle and some still lifes....
Here we go.

hello Eiki, you have some great work here. I also see that you're very motivated/have time to do alot of practice. You have talent to draw hands and portraits, and you really make them nice construction. Keep up the good work. Check out my SB if you get a chance.

OmertA Thanks, yeah Carravaggio is great stuff especially for lights, shadows I think :) Like that.
danlucas Thank you :) But unfortunately I do not work so hard ... I am much to lazy -.- But I try.
So here is some new stuff, a head which perhaps I'll work more on and a speedy still life ...
Some day I must do stuff from imagination .. not only studies I think ........... but for the moment:

wow, those hands are really nice! I see you've made a lot of progress so far in here, so keep up the awesome work. I would suggest doing more finished still life drawings and some Bridgman studies too. The self portraits are a great idea, I need to do some of those eventually. Keep up the awesome progress man, you're on the right track here.
Eiki
December 1st, 2009, 04:11 PM
Hey
jeremyg0rd0n Thanks! :) Finished still lifes: k, I took a note. Should work more from bridgeman and loomis I think, again to lazy ... thanks.
So here are some random sketches again... I really need to do more finished stuff I think ... life portraits would be nice, at least self portraits I could do ... aaaaaaaaaaargh
But for now >> this :p

hi
mysocksrock, keevy39 thanks :) and thank you for the motivation!
Had a "hard time" with my exams ...
but now i'm back.
just some stuff here, more soon (didn't feel like scanning all the sketchbook pages atm ..)
some sketches are obviouly inspired by some great work of artists at the forum. i hope it's ok, cause its only sketches in my sketchbook...

one envirostudy, then one without ref trying to use a similar color scheme, and then some funny result while trying to get some texture effect...

March 4th, 2010, 11:15 AM
i'm ill .... the third time since christmas -.-
so i didn't really do anything the last week :(
but now i think i'm getting better again (i hope so) and i started doing stuff again.
here is some alienated version of a study i have begun.. just played a bit .. hope that i can show the real study soon, too
Lhune
March 4th, 2010, 11:42 AM
This is really very good. I love your dedication and your improvement over these few pages is insane, keep it up!
Eiki
March 4th, 2010, 04:29 PM
Lhune Thanks. But looking at the dates: 4 pages in one year? it's rather embarrassing ....
however a little one, about 15 or 30 minutes i guess with ref
Eiki
March 5th, 2010, 10:14 AM
hey
played around a lot today ... (still not really fit ...)
most stuff was buäääh ^^ but this shape i liked.. trying to push this a bit further, i was kinda happy with the outcome of the horns and sthe stony head heheh
and i started a new sketchbook, reserved for posemaniac studies only. won't show too many from this book i think (because it's alway the same) but from time to time i will post some pages.... perhaps there wll be progress...
but i must do longer studies ... i think those quick sketches are more for the flow than for really learning anatomy stuff, aren't they? any tips what to do?
thanks for your help guys! :)
talked enough, here we go
Eiki
March 7th, 2010, 10:39 AM
Here is another wip of the devilguy.
Perhaps somebody has a tip or someone knows fatal errors i did so far?
I am happy for any help and tips :)
Here we go
Eiki
March 9th, 2010, 01:47 PM
I'm still ill, a little, little, little bit ^^... it's far better now, but I still do not really feel like doing lots of stuff yet ... atm the devilguy is the only one i'm somehow motivated to work at....
so here is a little update.
added some little helper to carry the heavy chain and rocks of the huge nunchaku....
i added a closeup of one of the little guys. i would like them to flutter quickly, but i don't know how .... does someone has tips how to do that?
Thanks for the help. talked enough, here we go:
Janos
March 10th, 2010, 02:26 AM
That is one weird looking character (in a good way! ;)
I love the shading eypecially on the chain. Did you have reference?
So you want to animate the birds?
Eiki
March 10th, 2010, 05:29 AM
Thanks for your comment Janos :) I didn't use reference for that char.
I do not want to animate the "birds", but I want them to get a more realistic feeling, that it really seems they are fluttering and struggling, to hold the heavy chain in the air... atm the look so...stiff?
Thanks for the help :)
Eiki
March 14th, 2010, 01:27 PM
an annoying uni project sucked much time in the last 2 weeks ... hope that nowo i have finished this shit ......
worked a bit more at the devil guy, but now it stagnates and i don't know where or how to work more at it .....
i added 'two' birds for fun, but i couldn't fix the flying ones yet ...
hopefully now i have more time again, then i'll do some different stuff as well and perhaps update that devilguy too ....
here he is

Hey
I started a personal project to design game cards for the game "The Werewolves of Miller's Hollow".
Hope to improve a bit when i have a goal ..
here we go
the witch and (a special insider card) a mermaid for a start.
they look weird... but i do not really know why.... helpful critique or comments always welcomed.

new stuff for the game cards
Barnik
April 3rd, 2010, 02:26 PM
Hey good work jere, if there is progress that is good. Keep up with the drawing heads but remember to study the whole body anathomy as well. Nice work with the hands - despite some minor mistakes they are well construsted and the lightning is well placed (I encourage you to refine it further). About heads you got a lot of work to do so dont ficus only on them. your sketchbook should be full of body sketches. Last advice: NEVER draw any manga if you want to make your drawings realistic.
Cheers L-:

I love the little bird creatures.

Nice landscapes on that last post man, they could be pushed a lot further but they are reading well.
Eiki
April 10th, 2010, 05:45 AM
jskotte thx :) i like drawing in my freetime since some years cannot say more exactly .. but i draw much too less ... but it's bit better now i think :)
Jasper_ thx, yeah they were really fast studies, but unfortunately id had to realise, that on anther pc all my digital stuff seems to look much more saturated atm ... and in particularly this one it therefore looks much worse ...
so i hope you guys don't mind me attaching a less saturated piece in this post, want to see the difference. perhaps you can say which one is better (concerning saturation)
i finished the ... i think i called her grotto warden ^^ i think at the moment i'm not able to push her further. i quite like the outcome, i think i cannot do better atm.
here we go
thanks for all your help and critique and comments :)

Thanks Seraph Fawkes and maeshanne.
Having quite a tough time so I am not posting too freaquently atm -.-
But I am still on it.
Here is just some thumbnails of my werewolf project .. some cards i haven't started yet, some are quite progressed...
Perhaps you have some tips to some of the cards? I think that with most of them I have problems between foreground and backgroud, but I do not find an answer to get a satisfying result ...
What do you think about some cards being much lighter than others? .. the style of course i have to adjust a bit..
here we go

update on the card game:
i tried to make the card of "nixe" darker, but it's still lighter than the rest... do you think that's ok, or should i try to make it stll darker for the overall picture?
two days left ... the most cards are ok, but on 2 cards i must work more ...
perhaps someone has some nice finishing tips how i could improve the card designs?
now i have to look for a possibility to print that stuff... seems to get more difficult as I thougt...
here we go.

The self portrait from earlier this month is really looking good :)
My crit for the devil concept would be the character's pose, especially when viewed from the side. To make it look more natural, make it look more "curvy", like so:

Hey Eiki, really cool studies. I liked especially those hand studies from previous posts. Everything you do from refs looks great, now you have to find a way to convey knowledge gained from them into stuff made from imagination. Keep up a good work :)
