Hey, im new around here... and pretty new with digital art. I just recently ordered an Intuos2 6x8 and can't wait for it to arrive so I can start learning. Are there any tips when it comes to drawing tablets.. like what are the best settings when starting, what are the main colours to use while sketching a drawing in photoshop/illustator, opacity levels etc? Also what do many of you have to say about the intuos2 and is a 6x8 good enough for my 17" flatscreen monitor?

first of all, use the pen to all kinda normal navigation, start program, browse files....everything except games... and stick to it. It's bloody hard in the beginning, but you have to practise your hand, eye, tablet, monitor coordination.

The Intuos2s are fanstastic tablets :D The main thing that I had to get used to was the frictionless feeling of a Wacom. It is a lot smoother than drawing with a traditional medium.

Gallon is right about using it for everything.

It actually works really well for any game that has static screen. Played Warcraft 3 using my old Wacom and it was fantastic. Switched to a mouse and it was really uncomfortable :(

Aven your right it is smooth and kind of slippery when using the wacom.

huh, weird. when I got mine I was really comfortable with it right away. There wasn't really any getting used to the coordination.

My suggestion is play around with all the settings until you find what feels right for sketching. Some people really like to have opacity dependent on pressure, but I prefer size, and keeping the opacity at about 50-60% for sketching. I also like to sketch in brown for some reason. It's all personal preference really.
