Spartan Camp #83 - 50 gestures + Optional Study of "Summer Clothing"
The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 19th of April.
The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras....and can be in any media, digital or traditional is fine. Both with and without reference is OK. 50 poses is a challenge, but don't stress yourself reaching it! Practice is the main goal.
In addition to this, participants can choose to do a Optional Study of "Summer Clothing", in any media. Black and White or Colour is fine.
:muscle: Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!! :muscle:
PS...critting each other is highly encouraged!! Let's help each other get better!

Hey, this looks really fun. Probably great way to improve your drawing as well. Never quite sure what to aim for as a "daily practice" - this may be it.
Is it OK to post digicam pics of drawn gestures? Touchpad-drawn ones?
If it's OK to just jump right in I'll probably join next week (haven't done any gestures lately). Good job by those who posted :-)

thedo12; Nice stuff, very loose but there's a lot of character hidden in there. Maybe you should see if you can start out with some light sketching until you're satisfied. Because there are a lot of thick, messy lines when you are correcting. Nice going!
Adi.; Wonderful linework. Accurate posemaniac poses, with few lines. Don't forget the feet! Although judging from the fashion poses you are pretty good at those. The fashion poses are great- smooth, clear, and balanced. Nice going on the line weight. Very inspirational. Any specific source for the reference?
Mindbendermind; Sure! Try it out. This works for me, I hope it works for others too. You can submit the poses any way you like. Just make sure they are not too small or fuzzy so we can help each other. Good luck! And don't worry if you don't reach 50.
Bit of a messy week again, had to do these 'in between'. Not very useful, better next week.
Ref from posemaniacs, characterdesigns.com, film screens, mind.

Good to see more people this week.
I did more poses from a new PoseFile book I got, which the poses are shot from above/below eye level. This made them a bit more challenging due to the of the perspective on the pose. I also did a few 30 sec poses from PoseManiacs, which I find that timer feature really helpful. I'm looking for a good male ref source if you have any suggestions?

thedo12 Very cool pen work, I like the character of your line. Keep em coming.
AdiGreat poses, you have a really nice fashion design style. Very good line work. Nice proportions and sense of weight. Where do you get your fashion ref from?
AnthisMessy? I think they have good flow and weight. Good to see a hint of faces this week, on the summer clothes poses.

Hi Anthis
This looks really cool. I love all the different styles, inspirational.
Also thanks very much for the tips on ref sites as well (I've been trying to find unusual poses) - I will have a go on the next challenge :)
p.s you been drawing from Resident Evil? The assymetrical dress and crouching pose looks familiar...good idea

Asettimi; Exactly, female poses are much easier to find. I'll see if I can dig up the reference topic somewhere here on CA. Think there was one with quite some links. You took some really tough poses from the posebook. Pretty good, don't go easy! I think consistently using those "blocks" and the flow-line-thing really helped you there. Good reminder for the rest of us. The shading is not quite working in all poses, but I think the one pose with the values is really good.
thedo12; I had to look up Vilppu I'm afraid. Seems like a great way of drawing poses. Because some of those, like your 30th pose, are really good. I'll look into it myself!
Angel Intheuk; No problem. I think practising and sharing knowledge are most important here. I'm surprised you recognize the resident evil poses, pretty good observation. Was RE:extinction. Good inspiration!
I usually end this on sunday and then post a new one. Bit late this week, but I'll get back on schedule.

Thanks Anthis that would be great!
I agree, I like the marker wash shading way better, some of the line shading not my favorite either. Ill try to do more of the marker wash this week, as well as the movie still idea.
Thedo12Did you say Vilppu? I actually studied under him for a bit a time ago. He is a great instructor, makes it look so easy. I always remember he always pushed us to draw around the form.
For all interested
Here is a link to an article on Vilppu's gesture process, and a couple quicktimes to view.

cheers Anthis and Asettimi!
For ref i usually look at fashion shows on either http://www.style.com/ or http://nymag.com/fashion/ which also has a look finder which is great to use http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/looks/
Also if you find a designer you like google them to get their homepage, which will have their clothing collections and can have good non runway photos, like http://www.loruncollection.com/
