face shading help

heres an image i am working on quite a bit recently. I think that the shading is a bit crappy on the face. Does any one have any words of advice as to how i could improve it. I am satisfied with the shape and everything its just the damn shading.

i think adding highlights to the hair will add depth to the face. also the cheek seems to be too bright on the hairline compared to the side of the face ( but only if the light is coming from the center like the arm is shaded) i agree with the shape of the face it looks good. thats all i can think of, great work and post the update!

i looked again and by "cheek" i meant "jaw". sorry! : )

set a light source first so you know where you need to place your highlight's

THANK YOU Osmus. tyhat helped loads. Adding decent highlights to the hair has truly altered the look of this image. I cant thank you enough. I shall post it in the completed section once i have finished making this damn snow background. Thanks. I just generally added more depth with highlights on the fur and the hair and more details.

bah my wacom doesnt come until thursday as my christmas present. i am using a mouse and just photoshop cs.

i don't know what photoshop cs is, i have 7.0. i'm trying to paint with it. what kind of wacom are u getting, i'm thinking of buying one and don't know which way to go. they are so expensive and i will get pissed off if i don't like it.

photoshop cs = photoshop creative suite

trust me you will be happy with a wacom as far as tablets go. i have heard how the cheap ones are very inaccurate. you get what you pay for ;)
