This is the sequel to pitch black, it looks sweet, although a Vin Diesel sci-fi movie might crash. Im lovin the art design in this movie, oppinions?:)chronicles of Riddick (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/thechroniclesofriddick/)

Patrick Tatopoulos designed the creatures for the last movie and I think he did an incredable job. If they produce an equally original and believable monster this time, they'll do fine.
edit: my bad. It's not even a monster flick. :(

But he still has those eye implants thingies. Could it be the same character ? It looks like a totally different universe tho.. Maybe they just wanted to re-use those cool contacts :D

Well, the title says Riddick, wich is the name of ol shiny eyes from pitch black, so its gotta be teh sequel, plus it has judy dench in it, mabye itll be a quality sci fi for once. i really liked the feel of pitch black as well as the aliens, and this one looks pretty good as well:D

We are working on it here @ Rhythm & Hues.
I am doing the overall color correction on it.
Looks pretty cool so far.

I loved Pitch Black. Hopefully this kicks ass too. I am liking the trailer so far, although without proper story the effects can just be a big waste right? Oh well I'll see it 100% no matter what the reviews. Should be awesome and gl PhilHolland ^^

Heh, I agree... but I think more movies should be like that.. sorter the difference from Mario 2 to Mario 3 ...
I think it'll be some good'ol cheesy fun!
PhilHolland: I hope it's looking good, 'cause the first movie had AMAZING colors! They did such a good job with the sun-bleaching and the cool darkness .. I was quite impressed

It's certainly the darkest movie we are working on right now.
Quite a difference between Riddick and Scooby Doo 2,Garfield, and Around the World in Eighty Days.
Riddick has some crazy cool sets full of this lava rock stuff that's pretty impressive.
Some of the Slam City miniatures look real good to.
The current trailer online only contains, I believe, two shots that we are working on and doesn't show what we are "really" working on.
It'll probably be in the next trailer though.
So far it looks cool though. The majority of the design and lighting reminds me of Dune/LOTR/Stargate.

Now that I actually think about it, a direct sequel to Pitch Black, that goes back to the planet or brings back the same monsters to another scenario would seem insanely stupid. Riddick is a pretty cool character though, and to use Pitch Black simply as a way to set up his character for something bigger has some good potential. It's pretty unusual because it might not be tapping the same horror suspense-audience that they brought at first.

yeah I hate to break the mood but I thought that pitch black was terrible, though it had potential, and this one looks even worse!

This movie along with 'Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow' look like the must-sees of 2004, so far.:) Well the must-sees that you'd have to watch in a big THX-certified stadium seat theatre, you know?

Well, I dont know Cybercyst, Sky capyain and pitch black are comming out at the same time as the historic blockbusters Arthur, Alexander, and Troy. All these giant battle movies might make people tire of the continual overuse of cgi in movies today, wich was a prevailing trend last summer, with such box office flops as the hulk and terminator 3. It will be interesting to see what happens, althuogh i expect the same results as last summer, a slowdown of audiences to the local theatre. Thoughts anyone?

Thats what I thought watching the trailer: "My Gosh, Dune meets Tomb Raider meets StarGate"
Nice design so far, but I really think they should take a wooden plate instead of Vin Diesel (did anyone say "maddox' matrix review"?), cause his acting is simply terrible. he could easily ruin this movie with his badass-triplex-wannabe-coolness. Guess it, I hate this guy - hes nowhere near serious (action-)acting.
Besides that I think this might have potential even though its lack of a good main-character. Problem could be the lack of a known trademark behind this and it looks somehow like many other styles mixed but nothing originally created... lets see what it will finally look like.

sry for doubleposting, just saw it.
good point shadow, i think it will end up the same. At last you usually can see whats cgi and whats not and it makes everything just less interesting and less impressive. CGI in Movies is certainly overused nowadays, I hated it so much in spidey for example when he jumped from house to house. It was so obvious and after a while youre just fed up. It results in a lack of dramaturgy. I mostly didnt care for anyone in these huge LOTR-Battles, in contrast i think Braveheart is so much more impressive.

Definitely.
I thought pitch black was an ok film with really great camera work and lighting (with the exception of that '3 suns' shot, which was horrible)
I liked Diesel in Pitch Black, but he's tainted himself forever with that peice of tripe, Triple-x. I don't have high hopes for his game company either.

i dunno about yu guys but i think it looks pretty cool, i mean i'm ready for a balls-out sci fi flick to counter all this matrix/reality crap. I don't want to have to relate my life to ANYTHING when i watch a sci fi, and nothing about this trailer turned me off... i'm ready to pay 6 bucks to see an hour and a half more. I didn't see pitch black, but this looks alot like a good motion comic book that hasn't been cheesed up for hollywood (i didnt hear one uber-cliche' i couldn't stand, probably because diesel only said 1 line).
