Hello Everyone
Lately I've been working on redesigning book covers.
After I saw Olly Moss' Retro Videogame covers (http://www.flickr.com/photos/ollym/sets/72157612646893506/) and Spacesick's I can Read movies (http://www.flickr.com/photos/spacesick/sets/72157614482499746/) I decided to try my hand, but staying in the book realm.
I've done 3 sets using the Penguin Marber Grid, but I'm currently working on recreating the Narnia series where I dumped the grid and am using my own design layout.
These were just fun exercises to keep making art.
Enjoy.

These are fucking fantastic! I love fully painted stuff, but top notch graphic art just floors me. Well done! The last one especially is stunning, and I love the fact that there is exactly one photographic element in each one.
Somebody needs to hire you.
PS. Can't wait to see your Narnia covers.

Awesome designs, and it's nice to see not so obvious scene choices in the Harry Potter ones (especially the last two!).

I saw these posted up on another site, and I just love 'em. Really strong, graphic designs, and such a great retro feel to them. Even though I already have all of these books, I would buy them again if they were put out in these sets.

I dig your simple design since. It has a comforting vibe to it. Although I don't find it appropriate for fantasy titles, I still dig it and must congradulate you on your success.

All I ever heard from Warner Bros is that I can't sell prints of them...
I sent my letter to JK last week with small prints of them inside, but who knows if her publishers will actually send them on to her.
I'm still hoping, but it looks grim.

makes me think of some Soul Bass works. Cool mood, the only thing that disurbed me a little, is that's a kind of system, and it works on each theme. But it works ! Carry on !!

Old Skool Cool Baby! Bring it on! If there's any crit to be made, the full front symmetrical layout pops up more than one time and it's noticable, but still i can't deny it works out. Wonder what those Narnia covers are going to look like ...

The Narnia's are going to be a lot different, it wont have the thick blacks I've been doing for the others... And it will use more than one color on each cover...

Most of these are simple, effective and look great.
I wish, however, that you had used some of the most obvious colour choices for each piece - to really get the titles across.
A couple of examples.... HP and the Goblet of Fire = Blue? Why not Orange, so it actually looks like fire. HP and the Half-Blood Prince = Green? Why not red for blood?
The Hostile Hospital = Neutral Grey/green, not very Hostile at all.

You haven't read the books, have you? :P
If you had you would know that both of those are the obvious, correct color choices.

No I haven't read the books (or seen anything past the first film) - Harry Potter bores me to sleep.
I stand corrected.
What about the Hostile Hospital image though, is that soft mutual colour relevant?

What about the Hostile Hospital image though, is that soft mutual colour relevant?
I chose that muted grey/green, because I thought it best represented a sick/hospital feel, it was less important to me to show a 'hostile' color but more of a sickening color.
Thanks for looking regardless if you feel my color choices seem off:)

Wow, these are all fantastic. Great design, man. I love the Harry Potter and His Dark Materials ones, they're all very appropriate for the book without giving anything away, and I love that they have a unified design. Awesome. (I haven't read the other books so I can't really appreciate them the same way)

All looks same at a glance but each series are different and kept neatly tuned.

I'm currently reading "The Day of The Triffids" because I plan on drawing one of my Horrors of literature from it.
And well, it really is a fantastic novel, you should give it a read if you haven't before.
I was inspired to make my own cover for it.
Hope you enjoy it!
