DESCRIPTION

Dra'llk is a lesser demon, in charge of many important and noble temptations. That's what he says.

In fact, his list of responsibilities includes:

1) Tempting people to play bejewelled or browse facebook on company time.
2) tempting people to steal grapes or small chocolate from grocery stores.
etc.

He has many other responsibilities, all along the same level. He is determined to succeed as well as can be possibly achieved in order to move up into the 'tempt people to cheat on their wives with the landlady' category of sin.

Also, he doesn't look really evil. That isn't what I was going for, I was going for mischievous, but he isn't that either. Hurgh.

I've never designed a demon-type character in my life, so this should be interesting. I was really taken with the grocery store image that was given, and so far am kind of running with that. I like the idea of the demon riding in the child's seat of the shopping cart and being obsessed with the bulk item bins. I also thought it might be interesting if s/he has a tiny mouth with an insatiable appetite, hence the reason for eating small items like grapes and chocolate. The final image won't look anything like this, just playing around with ideas. Don't ask me where the huge butt/tongue came from!

here is a thumbnail of the composition i have chosen to work with, along with some other scribbly ideation sketches. now i need to work on the demon's character design. human victim will be mostly in shadow - focus and color will be on the demon.

the concept: a depiction of the demon physically influencing the victim into temptation. perched on her arm, he disguises his voice as her conscience and whispers commands into her ear. one of the demon's hands grabs her head and twists it to aim her gaze @ the tempting object (not sure which i will use yet). the demon's other hand and tail grab hold of the victim's arm to guide it towards the tempting object. her eyes are glowing and in a hypnotic state due to the evil influence that has swept over her. muahaha.

YES! It may not be a great demon but a demon's a demon damn it! Barlowe's book is a big inspiration for this one. The lesser demons in that book harvest the fallen human souls and build the cities of hell with them.

I prefer the Lesser Demon action... it requires a sense of humor. Much better than some Uber-Demon that people will beautifully render all serious, dark and typical. ;)

My sense of humor has been missing the last few days so I'm not gonna make it for this but I'm loving the entries so far!

Courtyard you must go with the big fat baby demon in the Cart. Its totally brilliant and original idea... :D

wip ....decided to make some changes and make 'it' a bit more evil, it's still a demon, evil creature, although a lesser... he feeds on his victims, wandering in the shadows whispering .. do it .. come on .. do it .. to his victims until he's made enough to climb the demon career ladder...

-MQ-: it;s a good habit I think to finish a piece from time to time, don't get stuck in your sketchbook, ... it never gets easy (at least I think so) Remember (almost) every artist goes through the stage of "this piece is going nowhere" but if you hang in you'll get there.

richlyons: he makes me curious what all his co-workers look like :-)...only he does seem to hoover just a little ?
Tesla: I just can't figure out what I see. An owl with three green 'things' carrying stuff around chased by an ghost with a wooden stick in front of a starwars kinda space ship opening..? I think you should pick one idea an develop that one.

I've come to have a love hate relationship with Dra'llk over the years. He's always tempting me to delete my drawings before I'm even close to finishing them.

Maybe the only reason he's letting me get this far is due to a slight portion of vanity on his behalf and the fact that he wants something to remember his time as a lesser demon by, once he takes a step up the latter.

Still got plenty of work to do on this one.. Not to mention fixing the anatomy and getting the background working. The week is still young though.

With regards to mine, it just started as a silly idea which I wasn't really taking to seriously, just thought I'd see where it took me. So far I'm pretty happy with it. Maybe it is missing something.......any ideas?

darthmarsh - It's a nice concept, but I just would have liked to see the demon bigger. I think you can enlarge her (that is to say, her as the part of the image that she's in) and get rid of a lot of the extra space without getting rid of the idea of being at Conceptart.org.


So here's mine, and I may be going completely the wrong way with it. My brain popped the other week and I'm not too sure if it's recovered. But basically I imagined something a bit more primal injecting this man with the desire to visit places like Facebook and Hulu.

Ok...I think this might be the composition I go with. I'm going to make bulk food bins filled with all varieties of junk running along the sides. I'm still not sure how big to make him...I've attached a couple of very rough options. I like how clear it is when he's stuffed in the child's seat, but I also like the idea of the fat spilling over the back of the seat and filling the cart...what do you guys think? :D

*EDIT: I realized this might be my only opportunity to make a demon with enough back fat to fill a shopping cart, so I'm going with option B!*

MQ--I hope you finish yours...it's a promising start.

GarthCochrane--the posture of the man is instantly recognizable...well done! I'm a bit distracted wondering who/what the demon is looking at, though. Perhaps he could be playing the game with the man or cheering him on?
Tesla--A bit early to tell, but I like what I see so far! Did the demon tell the three people to steal something from the chef?
Matjosh--still *love* yours...I don't really get the sheep, even though they are extremely well done.
Darthmarsh--that paperclip/Clippit/Microsoft/what's-it-called thing is brilliant and will definitely resonate strongly with Windows users! I'm behind the times, but I'm not sure what the FN2 gadget is, though...I don't think you need it. I agree that she's too small...try resizing your image to a width of 300 pixels...that's the size it will be in the poll and will probably be how most people see it.
Dirkvandulmen--I *love* all of the bones and bits that he's got piled on his back--you did that really, really well. Something about his head is bothering me, though...maybe a combination of the design of the hat and that the whites of his eyes are so bright? :\
Aalandriel--Great idea. S/he seems a bit skewed or squished to me right now, though...
Sulk-sal--Cool design--it sure would be stressful to have him on your shoulders! Right now, the human kind of gets lost...it could help to have his torso extending slightly beyond the dragon's tail so that it reads a bit more clearly...

Hi can i play to. There are some great works so far.

I hope i have the concept right. I was thinking the little demon would need to hide its nature so it would appear to the person it was tempting as a the desired sex. The little guy would slip his face and hands into a puppet skin to tempt its prey. Maybe some sort of illusion or dark magic would mask its real body behind the dummy like one of those shows where an actor has an all black body suit on and its dark so you cant see them, and they run around with lit objects.

Here's another wip. As suggested in an earlier ChoW, I'm taking a no lines approach. The problem is that without the lines that were giving me so much trouble, I feel like I need to do something for texture (or so many of my critiques back in the day told me). I've been working though this a bit in some other pieces and I'm not quite sure how to handle it.

Dra'llk- Looking good so far. I think I recognise that guy from my 4am Xbox sessions!

Aalandriel- Maybe needs the contrast pushed up a bit just to give it a greater sense of depth, not sure. The bin looks fab!

Courtyard- Hahaha look at his little feet, brilliant! Thats my trusty BAMBOO tablet, the painting is kind of a still life. I draw with the laptop on my... er...lap! and the tablet in my hand. bit awkward, but works for me.

Ostrander- Ace, just perfect. Are you going to colour it?

Lateman- Shame you won't be able to finish it, it had real promise. love the colours

DigitalShade- Ah, he's so cute (in a evil demon from hell kinda way)

Vamyen- Human puppet suit.....eeergh! Nice concept, you've made a good start, just need to work on the anatomy a bit more. keep at it.
