View Full Version : Jester vs. Cashmere
December 17th, 2003, 08:11 PM
Another Middle Class challenge:
* Character Design: Two different pirates (setting classic Caribbean), a captain, and a ship's boy or a sailor
* Technique: 2D, no matter whether color or b/w, any media may be used
* optional: process shots and research work
* optional: environment/surrounding
We both depend on reference material, thus we will use it for our works
...yohoh... and a bottle of rum...! :D :chug:
December 18th, 2003, 06:32 AM
OK Jester, I want you ! :D
December 18th, 2003, 06:54 AM
ha - this will be fun.
December 18th, 2003, 04:19 PM
Cashmere - catch me, if you can! :D
Oblio - sure it will! :) Have you got a challenge running?
December 18th, 2003, 10:35 PM
Battle of the middle class mods! (Why didnt i think of that:S)
December 31st, 2003, 05:22 AM
Don't worry, form_n_focus, next time we can fight... ;)
Here's my first approach to the topic:
Hey Cashmere, where are your pirates? Let them come!!!
December 31st, 2003, 09:12 PM
very well milady....
nice prelim. A few constructive crits:
*Expression: "The Sad Pirate?" make him snarly or something - its suggested in his pose, but not his face. You could also go for a 'debonair'(sp?) look like jonny depp in pirates of the caribbean.
*Pose perspective: whether in actuality it is an error or just an optical illusion, he looks to be leaning back because he is too narrow at the top.
Wasnt another pair doin pirates?
good work jes, keep it up. come on cashmere ya clown, get movin!
AND HAPPY NEU YURRR!

Ha Ha , Jester, I know that your pirate: yeah, years ago he worked with me but a day he escaped from the galleon and he brought with him a couple of swords and the captain's gun.
We will never forget this offense !! Ha Ha
Mmm, today, during a battle, my great captain found a strange map.
I think your pirates are hidden there He He He
form_n_focus, the name of my ship is "Mystery Clown"
Ha Ha Haaaa
January 2nd, 2004, 11:56 PM
Baaaahahahaha the 'mystery clown' love it! Altho i suppose Jester should be the one called clown.....hahaha. I like that sketch of the map - is it just a coincidence that Jest island is a boring lump and mere island has cool bays and schtuff? Methinks not.
January 6th, 2004, 06:20 PM
Cashmere, that map made my day! What a funny idea (though I feel a bit gudgy about what form mentions, your island is much more interesting than mine!).
I'll take up that gauntlet, just wait a few days!
January 6th, 2004, 08:10 PM
Jester, I know, you have others more interesting islands around there
full of treasures and weapons
and I will discover them ...
and I will try to catch 'em all
January 14th, 2004, 06:19 PM
A bunch of skteches for both characters:
How is your work progressing, Chashmere? Just risking a thick lip (as we say in Germany)? :D
January 19th, 2004, 05:00 PM
Hi Cashmere, wheeeeeeereee aaaaare youuuuuu?
Here are some more pirates - I'm still looking for the right pose to show it all:
January 19th, 2004, 05:49 PM
Hey, great pirates, the last is awesome! Damn! eheh
January 19th, 2004, 06:21 PM
Hey, Cashmere lives! Where are your pirates?
January 25th, 2004, 03:31 PM
Two wicked sailors without a face ...and the face of a dreamer captain... and...
...the start of the Battle !
Ah Ah Ah
 Jester do you want a Bottle of grog?
January 27th, 2004, 07:33 PM
Hey Cashmere, very good entries up to now! Sure, I'll take that bottle of grog! ;) :chug: But only for a drinking fight with you! ;)
Here's my final for the Pirate Captain - I finally decided on a pose and technique.
Now I'll move on to the younger one.
January 30th, 2004, 07:00 PM
Hmmm, your Captain has a treasure ! And what is that ?! a barrel of grog!
AAARRRGHHHHH !! o_O
The time is approaching...In the meantime I'm sailing with my mad Captain Sketch in the mysterious Mystery Clown...
February 6th, 2004, 08:10 PM
This is my final image for Thunderdome 7.
two wicked sailors without face,
a dreamer captain named Captain Sketch,
tracking the sun in his galleon, the Mistery Clown
and the battle...
I had fun with this challenge,
Jester, I hope you toooo :D
February 10th, 2004, 11:46 AM
Jester, I put my final image in the Thunderdome 7 Final Images thread.
February 10th, 2004, 12:38 PM
plz do so - I don't know whether I manage to do my young sailor in time, but I will post my pirate anyway later this evening (still busy and I'll have a meeting at 19:00).
Your entry looks great and I had fun with this, too :D
February 10th, 2004, 01:56 PM
You guys did great...nice entries! Lots of improvement shown in these images!
February 10th, 2004, 05:39 PM
Thanks MCM, gotta run to finish my entry.
February 10th, 2004, 06:32 PM
Conceptart in its true sense - just a fast sketch to visualize my idea. Not nice, not perfect, not a true Thunderdome candidate but - what the hell, I did the best I could in the few moments i had.
February 10th, 2004, 07:10 PM
MindCandyMan, I think we all are learning much from this experience that is really useful !
Jester, you did a Great Pirate Captain and I would like to see this sailor complete! Really.
Even if thunderdome is finished, please, if you can, if you find the time, Damn!
Make The Best Sailor You Can Do !! ;)
February 10th, 2004, 07:37 PM
Thanks a lot, Cashmere, but I know myself. It's usually "off to new shores...!!!" :D
I still have to finish my friends birthday present (which was due 30th September last year...) and I'm only half way through. However, this Thunderdome experience gave me the self confidence to get back to this project.
Anyway, I loved the way you implemented all those pirate elements like maps, hooks and galleons - GREAT!
