Hi does anyone know how to go about painting with oils onto aluminium?

I know that the surface has to be degreased first then sanded lightly. but i was wondering, if for example I wanted to have areas left unpainted would it be ok to go ahead and only prime the areas that I was painting, with say an alkyd primer and leave the other areas bare untill I varnished the whole piece? (what would you recomend as a varnish/ top coat? something alkyd based?) Or would I have problems with the natural oils in the metal reamerging while I was working on the piece causing me to need to reclean the affore mentioned 'bare' areas again, before the topcoat/varnish was aplied?

Or would I in fact have to have the aluminium chromate conversion coated/anodised before I worked on it?

I really would preffer to simply sand the aluminium and just prime the areas I needed to prime.

Could anyone suggest the best primer and topcoat/varnish for this? I want a high gloss surface. Also are usual oil paints fine for this or would it be better using alkyd ones such as Griffin? As I've heard that alkyd bassed products adhere better to the sufrace and create a better chemical bond
