Hello people, that's my first post here.
I choose to show you, my travel book from Japan.
It's a very special country, and I really enjoy to there soon.
Sorry for my bad english.
So the following draws are two differents "species", some were made there, on an old school book of mine, so there are lines on. And some are realised after come back, with watercolor like true illustrations (because in Japan, you want to draw everything you see, every meters, so that's impossible, during the 3 weeks of the trip, we take about 7000 photos!)
Now, the work:

These are fantastic! I went to Japan last November and could barely sit still for 2 seconds to draw (much as I wanted to) let alone produce such beautiful sketches.

Thank you, the most important for me is that the draws transmit atmosphere and a "wish" of travel.

So, here is a new place, the Koya-san in the south of Osaka, Wakayama district.
The Koya-san is a very special place, a high place of Shingon Buddhism, there are about 700 temples and a huge cimetery (Okuno-in) with a very very special atmosphere.

Really like how loose you're brushstrokes are, mainly on the woods and trees creating the precise volume and mood even in the more sketchy pics. Also really liked the rendering on that b & w piece. It's a watercolor class, just looking at this thread.Truly inspiring!

December 9th, 2010, 01:49 PM
Thank you for your comments, it's give me motivation!
here is a new one, very quickly done, about 15 min, the goal is catching the essence of the subject, it might be short for somebody, but it's long 15 minutes, enough long for not be stressed by time and be focus on you draw.
I don't lose time to draw details, I start directly with ink to fix the bridge by the three on the left, and every stuff add easily around. The ink is dried very quickly by the paper, so after only few strokes I paint directly with watercolor "to dress" my atmosphere. It's an obligation to stop after 15 min as I decided before I start because afterwhile things begin worse.
So, no more blabla, now the picture:

Today I just post an except subject (sorry!) about a French comic book published few weeks ago. It's a collective book about ecology assembling 31 authors for 19 stories on environment.
I did a small story, parody-like. There is my cover and the first pages:

Hello guys,
Just a message to say that I support a cause: victims of the Japan earthquake.
It's a website made by the French community Café Salé (or CFSL.net) were artists can send draws and illustrations for a charity sell and an artbook which the money will go to the earthquake victims.
There it is (http://tsunami.cfsl.net)
You will find my contributions and many others

Though I appreciate the sentiment behind this effort and I even hope it succeeds in helping people over here, I find it a little in poor taste that each of the paintings depicts the tragedy that is still ongoing. :(
Maybe it's just me and I'm being a bit too sensitive about the situation but is it really necessary to garner support in this way?

Have you visit the website? I'm not the only one.
To answer you, I've done the only one thing I know to do, that's drawing, I'm not a dragon monsters drawer or things like that, I draw usually what I see in front of me, sketching everywhere. But I'm not in Japan now, so I've made a sketch like I was, drawing what I see on NHK or anything else.
It's a kind of testimony, if you prefer.
Please visit the website.

Please don't take it personally, Eien. I did visit the website which is why I commented - there were several images there that left a bad taste in my mouth due to the fact that myself and people I know are still dealing with what is being depicted in those images.
It feels almost like people are glamorizing what is still an ongoing traumatic experience. The child playing with his Kamen Rider and Gundam toys in the rubble... a gas-masked soldier holding an AK-47 in the ruins of a Japanese city... a topless Manga girl praying for Japan.
As I mentioned, I understand and really appreciate the intentions behind this. I just don't think the content is appropriate.

I've just returned from Japan after two weeks visiting my brother, so it's great to see these images :)!! I, too, produced a sketchbook while I was over there (check out the sketchbook link in my signature, I'd love to see what you think of it!) - like you've said, it's so difficult not being able to draw EVERYTHING!
Great comic pages too!
