Ok, I am wanting to make a chair. The catch is, it has to be hollow and sturdy. I was considering sculpting with styrofoam and covering with fiberglass, and then removing the styrofoam. Would this be my best option, or is there a better maybe less expensive way? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If this is a class assignment , are there any other specific rules you must follow?
Does it have to be completely hollow like an outer shell that you could fill with water? or does it just gave to have hollow components?
Your idea sounds like a good way to go especially if you want something really sculptural-looking
2 inch to 4 inch diameter PVC pipe is good and easy if you just want something strong and functional. you could encase it in vinyl or fabric.
some interesting hollow chairs:

No, this is no class assignment. I am actually building a computer work/gaming
station for personal use. The core needs to be hollow to allow the large amounts of cables to run through it along with air for obvious cooling purposes. The biggest reason for this question is because I am unsure if fiberglass will support this type of project as far as holding the weight of a person along with other equipment.

fiberglass should work if you know how to work with it. Another possible option might be aluminum which takes heat really well, that is if its available as an option. Only downside to aluminum is you'll have to have the right equipment to weld it, or you could rivet it together. But realistically fiberglass seems your best bet if you know what your doing.
