I've never really used the tilt function on my Wacom. I'm curious what parameters people set to the tilt function, and how much they actually use it.

In Painter and Painter sketchpad.

There are the real hard media brushes. Like I said the shame of Painter 11 is that these are really awesome brush sets that respond to tilt. The pencils will do this especially. so it's like drawing with a traditional pencil.

For the settings just on the wacom itself. Sometimes a person who is left handed for example, will have a different tilt range than a right hander. Look at Obama and McCain when they sing documents. You'll notice they hold the pen strangely. I know this because I'm also a fellow southpaw.

So default settings can be fine for the average person, but people who hold their pens at different tilt ranges may find this useful ... so...

So, in Painter you have the tilt set up to change the pencil took from a line drawing tool, to a wider shading tool? That doesn't sound bad, I'll have to play with it in Photoshop some to see if I can create a brush that works similar. I have the buttons on my pen set to size larger and smaller, so I'm not sure if that would be a huge advantage or not, but it bears playing with. Thanks.

Yes indeed. I'm trying to remember where else I've been able to get this to work as well as Painter but I can't right now. You can try downloading the 30 day of Painter Sketchpad and using the pencil and you'll see it immediately. Painter really does for the most part emulate parts of natural media I haven't seen elsewhere. It's just a shame it's so buggy in all other aspects.

I'll play around in a couple other programs to see where this can be useful and follow up.

Yeah, the pencil in Sketchpad does that. It's really neat. It'll show you how your pen is oriented (in what direction too), so you can orient the pencil accordingly based on the icon, it's like an animated pencil based on your tilt

If anybody minds making some screenshots of that pencil behaviour I can try to mimic it in Photoshop and come back to share the results with you. One thing I did manage was to make the brush wider when tilting the pen with a scatter function.

This is relevant to my interests.

Edit: nope. Photoshop seems to only scatter LESS when tilted. Back to the drawing board.
