Saw this thing in a dream. I've never seriously drawn a mech before...

If you saw that in a dream it's a crazy thought to see what type of mecha you'd think up while your awake. Excellent work so far, if your looking to engage in daily sketches you should check out the daily sketch group section. They've got some great topics over there to improve on.
Keep doing you

Thanks, Vulgar. I'll take a look at the Daily Sketch threads and see what I can do.
I'll be submitting more observational work soon, hopefully later today.

Hey Kezrek, solid work so far!
I especially like the last image of the first post, the dog creature thing. So far all the work is top notch, looking forward to seeing the sketchbook once you scan it all in!

Great start, your paintings are very nice already and I love the little sack drawing in your sketchbook, really funny and they have lots of character for something so simple.

Kick my ass...
One thing I noticed, however, is that you don't really take atmospheric perspective into account.

The textures in the Dream Cyborg are impressive. All the lost and found edges are beautiful.

Vayne - Lol, I'm rather impatient so my gestures usually turn out better than my polished pieces. ( not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing..? ) Thank you!
Kylogram - Wait, I'm confused.. Only one of my pieces even portrays a full environment in which atmospheric perspective can take place, and in that piece (the mech one), it takes place. Did you mean to say I don't play around with different perspectives as often as I should? That would make more sense. If not, then please correct me. =)
Retronym - Thanks! If only a 3D program like it existed, heh.
Wahay - Thank you ^_^

Been stuck in a great big bowl of boiling hardships recently..
But instead of boring you with the details, here is yet another dragon, but this one was a vent for my frustrations.

Hi Kez,
I really like ur stuff, great imagination. Not sure on crits but do you draw from life and/or photo-refs much? You might want to use real creatures that are similar for reference...an example on dragons: use bats for wings and lizards for skin. Obviously a healthy dose of imagination is necessary ;-) Ur rendering detail is very nice on the red dragon a couple of posts up, however anatomicallly there are somethings that I find a little strange. The back of his neck appears to bulge unnatuarally and I think his forelegs are a little small...one thing the head is awesome and is well grounded, it is very convincing...but the legs and torso throw me a little. You might consider dinasaur references, perhaps. Hope that helps and keep it up, ur stuff is inspiring!

Brainiachound - Thank you for your input! =) But uh... actually, yes, I use tons of references from similar animals, dinosaurs especially; those are my favorite kinds. I even have a collection of animal skulls and skeletons in my room and I analyze them whenever I need them. The reason I gave the red dragon small forelegs is so that his body has more room for wing muscles. Basically, his forelegs don't need to be big or long or anything, since he only uses them to hold himself up and pick up objects. Big or long legs would make him less aerodynamic. His torso and neck, however, I see what you mean. xD

post 2: that is AWESOME concept
it's like an aline creature coupled with machine: it's so terrifying !
that's so amazing to be able to paint what you dreamed of

Zou - Thank you! I've recently been having a vast array of other vivid dreams. Hopefully I'll be able to draw those out as well. =)

Hey Kez,
Glad you do use refs and combine relevant elements...you are better at it than I am! =D Its interesting that you mention your skull collection. I think the heads of your creatures are the strongest aspect of your work...and it also explains your avatar, too! Anyway, looking forward to more!

UPDATE - I'd honestly love to sit down and just expel art from my veins, but due to an uproar of unfortunate events, my family is struggling right now. Namely, my mother is broken, and sick. In the meantime, I'll try to squeeze out whatever I can.

First off, I really do hope your mother gets better and life smooths out in the near future for you. You have a wonderful sketchbook.
I love the dragons. Post 32 is amazing head and arm-wise but I agree with Brainiachound, there's something off about the torso. I think the lack of dimension in the chest area is one of them. Currently he looks quite flat there. I think you could pull some of the colour from the body into the wings too. Maybe follow what you did with the arms a bit. For the actual membrane you might also bump up the saturation around the edges to make them look a bit more transparent.
Post 33: Looking a bit flat there too. The entire side of it's body which is in shadow is a pretty consistent value, which you could add some bounced light and deeper shadow to, esp with all that water around.
Keep it up and kick life in the butt! :sungod:

My mom's doing better, but I'm at college so it's nice to get away from her constant nagging. (I heart my mom) College makes me want to draw more. Mmmm.

No, really. It's keeping me very busy. I'll post some work I've done for it later.
Art? What a strange concept. For now.. A bug:

Kez, do you work in pencil first, sketching it out then painting in PS? Or does it vary?
Also, have we met before?

Most of my recent work is pure Photoshop. I still sketch in pencil/ink all the time, of course, like the tendon-y looking monster which was sketched in colored pencil and inked, with only the background done in PS (since a plain white background looked awkward with it). It does vary, though. I'm not restricting the possibilities for future stuff.
I'm not sure if we've met. o_o I've probably seen your face before, but never thought to myself 'Hey, it's that guy!' Unless my memory shot itself in the guts and I completely forgot.
derp derp silly CA rules. *slaps on random WiP*

Yay winter break?
The first dragon is for a friend who wanted me to design her evil character (so please, do not take it). And the rest is other stuff.

ah, I am verry much liking that 'evil' dragon design... great use of color, I like the white strip going along it's limbs... it sort of draws your attention away from the orange of the head crest.

JoeS - Thanks! The bug dude is one of my favorites too, but he doesn't get enough love. xD
Zypherax - Thank you! Yes, the differing design was meant to attract attention to the other limbs in a more subtle, but still apparent way.
And, as a change of pace.. A human WIP character.

What kind of animal is being depicted in the opening post. It looks like a cross between a dinosaur and a horse to me.

I'll update with more art soon. Hopefully, I can finish a piece that's been in the works for a while now.
