STETTING

We write the Year 2209. It's raining all the time but people don't have to go out. Technology is important, nothing works without. Big skycraper citys, a worldwide digital world you can visit every real place and may new ones. Big long cable hang aroud overall to make it possible. In exchange, people dont travel often in real. (they are boring, so I think, our protagonists wouldn't be like them)
On the other side a lot of poor people travelling around, seraching for jobs, food and a place, they can stay. They are branded by the settled people as lazy thiefs, scalawags and terrorists.

So the Outsides building groups. Reined by a few Magicans called "the hidden ones" because they stay behind drapery. Nobody exept the samurais (loyal fighters) know how they look like. In reality they are full body cyborgs with only the brain left. Able to do magic because thex can use the energy a normal body needs for magic (not so important, how it really works)
They all have a lot of guardians called samurai, strong fighters with a suicide mechanism controlling they didn't betray their master.

Ordinary traveller are under protection of a "hidden one" and pay for it.

Hey guys, really sorry for the late reply Ive bee naway for the weekend so that meant no CA :( will make it up to ya's.
Just a brief intro my name is Jayson and I work full time at a advertising agency doing graphic design and over the last 2yrs getting back into my drawing.
I work digital in Photoshop and have a Wacom, I think since Im the bung one for timezones Ill be using the team sketch book heaps for communication ( awesome in setting it up by the way) but will also have msn going if you want to abuse me :)

Im totally down with sci-Fi theme, I think if the is a preferable character ya wanna do let us know, and from there we can divy the sub group characters up.

Just reading the ideas you have come up with already sounds good, I get an overall feel like ghost in the shell / blade runner thing going on

Ideas -

Hero - Could of been a courier or mobile safe for the Cartel. Dumping memories for storage space. Containing top secret infomation ( KFC secret herbs and spicies etc.) imbued with a few advance cybernetics abilities

Shadow - Comes across as her bodyguard, purhaps worked for another cartel and is helping her in her journey to retrieve the lost infomation which he also needs for whatever reason
Advanced cybernetics

Protector - Found Hero after her meltdown, and is trying trying to help the poor girl out..maybe reminds him/her of a sister they had lost earlier in their life.
samuri like character, know alot of the world. proberly an old character in the late 40's purhaps

sage could fit in with your HIDDEN ONE idea, could be cool

Thats all ive got so far bout characters stories
as far as setting I'm loving the raining all the time
purhaps cities are over polluted and its always dark and raining, no plants and the like.

If you're okay with it and all, we can start looking for some references for the characters we picked. You can post them here if you want to. It also would be nice to search for visual material of the world we're designing the characters into. The official deadline is Wednesday, but forgive me on being so picky. I just want to get started soon! xD

Yeah I like what you guys have going so far. Personally I dont think establishing a setting is soooooo important to character design, I just need an aesthetic to work with. So whatever overarching settings you guys wanna come up with is fine with me. Id like to take the Sage if you guys are down with me taking it in a different direction, Im not so big on the "hidden ones" thing. Let me know if you guys are all right with that and Ill start sketching. Initially I was gonna go really colorful with this but seeing the setting we've created Im thinking something more muted? All right guys good stuff so far anyway. Also I wouldnt mind doing some sketching and or pencils for the protector. I forgot who Im working with on the double one but whoever it is if you wanna do colors? Or we could work something else out I dont mind. Oh and one last thing I was thinking we could incorporate a number 1 into all our characters and that might be cool. Just like the number one in a circle or something. I guess itll be easier to explain when i get some images going.

The Characters
The Hero - Team B: skorpi and Lostlimeturtle
The Shadow - AhChu
The Protector - Team A: AhChu and ¿Dubious?
The Sage - ¿Dubious?
The Technician - Lostlimeturtle
The Rabble Rouser - skorpi

Collaboration teams (Due to timezone)
Team A: AhChu and ¿Dubious?
Team B: skorpi and Lostlimeturtle

Skorpi, would you be so kind to change that in the first post.

Well then, with that done, let's make some reference sheets if you want to and get started on the sketches for the next deadline. :)

I've prepared some reference sheets for the world. I mainly looked at the characters:
640156

640157

And I also made some reference sheets for my character: The Technician to show to you. I'm gonna make it a mechanic sort of character.

640158

640159

Let us begin then :D Maybe we could post some sketches to give and get some feedback on those before the deadline is there. So we could design also with the ideas of the rest of the team.

skorpi
April 7th, 2009, 04:47 PM
@AhChu: Yeah, Akira and Ghost in the shell :D

@¿Dubious?: I think it's different. I need al setting, because I'm a story teller and need to know, the world the character lives in. Perhaps it would be better do do it more visual, because it's what we show :[
I still like the Nr. 1 idea. Do you like to design the logo or shall we do it different?

There are already some good references.
The one I serached:

... I would post it, when my connection would allow it. >:{

AhChu
April 7th, 2009, 08:09 PM
¿Dubious? Yea man go for it, try different colours the painting I did of the generator was just to get the image out of my head and just playing with our theme. I'm ya buddy for the colab will do some roughs and see if we can tie in some ideas. Like the 1 logo idea

Lostlimeturtle Nice refs, love the samurai pics

Yay long weekend this weekend, should be able to get alot of drawing done...time to go spy on some of the other teams...muhahhahaa

LostFayth
April 8th, 2009, 02:57 AM
Yeah, the number one idea. Why not right? It shows that we're number one xD.
I also have a long weekend thanks to the holidays. I'll do my best to come up with lots of sketches for my own character and the collab.

April 8th, 2009, 10:31 AM
Lostlimeturtle good call on the reffs some of those technician ones are pretty much exactly what I was thinking for the setting. The samurai armor ones are really cool too. good stuff guys cant wait to see some sketches.

So....Tuesday. Here are the sketches I made and two pages from my sketchbook. I studied my references.

I started doing some thumbnails of ideas I had and using the reference roughly.

646346

There was one idea I really loved and I was afraid to continue because I could ruin it. (The robotic arm). After that I studied the reference on form and the design.

646342 646345

From the studies I made a generic turnaround pose and drew the designs on it and here they are:

Classical outfit:
646339

Bodysuited:
646338

Robotic arm: (I like this design the most)
v1.
646340
v2.
646341

I think I'll go for the second version with some alterations since not everything looks good.

Unfortunately I couldn't do any studies for the hero. Skorpi, did you did some? Maybe we could chat again to see if we can come up with some idea's for the hero.

Please comment the designs and tell me if you have any ideas or alterations for either the Technician or the Hero. I'm curious what the rest you made :D

skorpi
April 14th, 2009, 02:35 PM
Lostlimeturtle: Interesting sketches :)

I like the robotic arm design v2 more, but the tatoo from version 1 is really cool :)
Pherharps you can add some little bags on her clothes for other tools. Or something like a robot assistent who gives her all she needs.

I didn't do something on the hero, I think, I make some sketches this evening.

The Ruble Rouser:

I had really difficulties to serach for references, because I hadn't an idea, how he should look like.
So I thougt about his character(story)

Clive is a gipsi. Means, his ancestors were and he's still proud of them.
He has no regular job, but always a way to make money (of curse not always the legal way). He's a talented gabler with (to) much luck. And if not, he has his katana + a gun.
He meet the group flying over their table in a takeaway restauraut. The guys he was fighting with had no intent to continue. And Clive (he can be rally charming if he want to) make a big excuse.

I mixed elements, something against the rain, samurai, gipsy and a little bit cyberpunk.
Critic and ideas are welcome :)

April 14th, 2009, 02:53 PM
good work so far guys
Im not going to lie school is getting really crazy right now so I might be a little late on the early sketches stage of our deadlines. Dont worry though Ill bag some stuff out to show you guys as soon as possible. I promise I wont let you down.
Lostlimeturtle I think v1 with the robot arm is your strongest design
Skorpi I like what youve got going. Right now his poncho/shawl thing is screaming wild west to me though so I might make that a little more scarf-ish or something. Good work so far though I like the straw he's chewing on and the instrument is a nice touch.

AhChu
April 14th, 2009, 09:42 PM
Lostlimeturtle Nice work, I'm digging the look of the fourth version of the techy aswell, maybe be some added accessories like Hard hat or Rench..hmm maybe that is abit stero-typical.

Skorpi Nice sketches, I like the poncho character on the 2pg top left and the head on pg3 top right and grenades are a must :P

Ill have mine ones up later today, got one more sketch that I want to put into mine to tie my idea off

AhChu
April 15th, 2009, 04:28 AM
Mmmkay this is what Ive played round with, had him with some sort of body armour but then went more high tech with a suit that can absord of minor impact and energy damage that he can wear under his everyday clothes while he is out snooping around. Ditched the robot arm so his eyes while be his main feature that pops him out in a crowd. Armament still on the guards maybe some sort of pistol or some kind...any ideas...let me know what ya think :)

LostFayth
April 15th, 2009, 05:47 AM
Thanks for the comments and inputs. I like the idea of a robot assistent. I'm gonna work some more on the design.

As for my input on your characters:

Skorpi: I like the character you created in the fourth page. He's a Rabble Rouser. That means he's always putting the team in trouble because he can't shut up or he can't stop touching thing or something like that. Since you're a storyteller I know you can incorporate this in his design. Maybe you can do this with his pose or maybe make his face look childish-er. I like the poncho. You can follow ¿Dubious?'s comment and make it look more scarf-ish. But I already like the design now. Maybe you could do some more with the fact that he causes trouble. Maybe an inside pocket (steals stuff) or make it look a bit torn. I know you'll be able to do it :D

¿Dubious?: Don't worry too much about being too late with the sketches. I made these deadlines so we were able to talk about the characters and help each other out. Everything should be ready on the 28th. Just make sure everything is ready by then. You have my trust.

AhChu: If I'm correct the chacters are good. I'm a hundred per cent sure about 'one' and I think 'number' is correct too. First of all I like your presentation xD. I like your interpretation of the character. The hoody makes it look mysterious and spooky. Take note, don't go to mysterious with him, he may end up looking like a villan. We're designing the good guys. I like your thumbnails too. Maybe you could combine the hoody with the first of five designs. And maybe make it a long matrix looking coat? This will make him look mysterious and like he has more knowledge than he lets us show. And thus more to the brief. Whatch out with the glowing eyes. It's too villan-ish. Otherwise great go at the character.

Maybe an idea, are we doing something with characters? Since they are the good guys in a world of evil and such?

skorpi
April 15th, 2009, 04:36 PM
@¿Dubious?: School is more important, so no prob :)
Thanks for the critic, I thought of camoufalge pattern to make it look less like a poncho, but I keep it in mind. :)

@AhChu: Thanks, I'll try to make hin look a bit more like it. The grenades are under his poncho, many of them ;)

I like your design. The eyes looks cool and the suot is a nice idea. His clothing looks a bit normal (he's a misterious character, isn't he?) I like the coat most.
The japanese sign is cool. I think, the line – means already 1, but that would be a bit boring.

@Listlimeturtle: Thanks for the input. :)

I would do a charactersheet (in the was AhChu did it or like this: http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=542054&stc=1&d=1229436402 ) and a illustration, showing the character in action/ doing something characteristic. Like most CHOW pictures are.
Hope, that's not to much work.

New stuff: color tests for the ramble rouser (I like the right more) and some hero sketches.

AhChu
April 15th, 2009, 08:14 PM
Cool as will have a go of mixing up those ideas, throw in if you come up with any ideas along the way, more than happy to try them out.

For the final are we going to have a character line up with a standard background behind them all....or different for each

LostFayth
April 16th, 2009, 05:30 AM
Let's do a character sheet. That's a great idea! The characters will live in stead of being just a character. I also thought of making a background per character. Let it stay in its natural habitat. Let the hero do something nice, let the shadow lurk the hero, let the technician work on some kind of machine. It doesn't have to be backgrounds but more a visual presentation of what they do in their everyday life. Any thoughts?

Comments:
Skorpi: I like the second color set for the rabble rouser the most. The yellow poncho reminds me of a rain coat xD. I like the third design for the hero. A sweet looking hero not knowing she has a dark side.

Let's also think about poses. Poses can say a lot about characters right? Just remember, the CHOW rule is that at least 3/4th of the character must be visible.

skorpi
April 16th, 2009, 02:15 PM
I think, the same background isn't important, but I think, we should use the same format.

Little update: some portraits of the hero.
Lostlimeturtle, do you have any ideas or wishes?

AhChu
April 16th, 2009, 04:18 PM
Skorpi Cool portraits, the top one of the middle page is my fav but all great sketches.

I'm done for a set format for each character for finals. I will have some more sketches up this weekend hopefully the refined version of shadow and a couple of tests for protector :)

LostFayth
April 17th, 2009, 03:57 AM
Ah cool sketches, I like the one on the lower right side of the middle page the most. I'm okay with your progress so far. If I get any idea's I'll let you know ;)

Just a quick sketch tonight, receiving holographic details

skorpi
April 17th, 2009, 09:07 AM
@AhChu: I see, you prefer the mean loking ones :D

Your Design looks great, I like his coat. His shirt looks a bit like a bullet proof west, perharps you can work out the drape that it looks useless agains bullets (and anybody thiks, he´s ungarded)

©Lostlimeturtle: Ok, I hope, I can descide a final design this evening, so I can soon give you the lines.

LostFayth
April 17th, 2009, 09:22 AM
Yeah AhChu, that looks great. The design looks pretty cool :D I'm glad you took some of the advice we gave you :D

Skorpi, don't rush it. The deadline for the collaboration lines are next Wednesday ;). If you see a chance to come on MSN maybe we could have a chat about the hero.

I have yet to begin on my own version of the final sketch. I did redefine the design a bit, but I'll show that once I find a pose or a rough idea for a pose I like for the technician. I suck at drawing poses so bare with me... xD

skorpi
April 17th, 2009, 09:28 AM
I think, it´s better, when I do the collaboration stuff first, so you have enough time to do the colors :)
I´m still at work, at 8 pm I could meet you on MSN ;)

LostFayth
April 17th, 2009, 10:13 AM
Okay, let's do that then. I'll be on-line at 8 p.m. Meanwhile I'm gonna do some pose studies for my character.

skorpi
April 17th, 2009, 12:54 PM
Little update hero: She don't look very futuristic.

Edit: Cyberware test
Edit2: final design? Lostlimeturtle, do you like it? I let the colors to you :)

LostFayth
April 17th, 2009, 01:23 PM
I like it Skorpi :D

Here's mine progress so far.

First I redefined the design and added some of your idea's as well.
649205 649208

After that I tried out two poses so far I liked and sketched out her face.
649192 649198

Then I tried some different haircuts and places the face I made before in then with photoshop. Let me know which hairstyle you like the most, I'm not gonna tell mine, yet.

AhChu
April 19th, 2009, 05:18 AM
Here are a couple more sketches, just been working out the shadows face, I wanted to make him more asian looking, and a few blockouts for the protector..the big one is more of a mobile suit that he can wear.

Will start thumbing the final pose for shadow now I think Ive worked out the bits I will change...will post up in a few days. Hope you guys had a cool weekend

LostFayth
April 19th, 2009, 06:09 AM
I must say, nice thumbnails. Maybe you could make some more and combine idea's you like and not. What I understand of the protector is that he/she is there to aid the hero in bad times. That means number 2 from the left already doesn't work. He's thin and kinda long. That are some features for fast people, not strong. Number three and number four are my favorites. If you add some badass weapon to number five I think that will be the one that will work out the best. Broad shoulders, nice and confident stance and a bad ass weapon. That should work. The face looks good to me, really Asian. Keep it up! ^_^

skorpi
April 19th, 2009, 12:32 PM
@AhChu: I like your tuhbs, and I argree with Lostlimeturtle. Nothing to add expect, make the protector not to robot like, I think he's a sympathic person and should have enough human look :)
And I like the Shadows face, prhaps you can make his eyes a bit tinnier, so he looks more adult.

I make the sketch for the hero. Any critics?
At the moment A4, I would make the formt a bit more narrow.

AhChu
April 19th, 2009, 09:04 PM
Comments duly noted, thought the mobile suit would give the technican something to fix and general upkeep.

¿Dubious? you still lurking around, not trying to step on ya toes with the protector, just needed a break from shadow.

Skorpi- im a bit confused of the lady with her back to us, is she a reflection. But aside form that it is really cool, such nice line art will be looking forward to seeing the final

Lostlimeturtle - Looking forward to seeing your progress with Technician, got some wicked break downs, as far a hair cut it should probably be tied back some how so she doesn't get it caught up in what she is working with.

LostFayth
April 20th, 2009, 08:37 AM
Oh wow! That looks absolutely amazing! I can't wait to get started on the colors and cleaning up the lines. The legs are gonna be so much fun to paint xD

AhChu: The Hero has two sides. A good side and an evil side she doesn't know. The reflection resembles the evil side. ;)

LostFayth
April 20th, 2009, 11:58 AM
Bleeeh forgive me guys, my scanner sucks and it won't scan out so well as it used too. I made the sheet of paper I was working on messy because I was trying to do 100 things at once. I'll clean out the sketch someday this week and add in the face and other details and I might rework some parts since....well you'll see for yourself.

I made a composition thumbnail. I think I'll make her and her robot friend a little better to make them pop out more. Forgive me for rushing this a bit, but I'm rather busy until Thursday so I have to finish it now. Don't worry the clean lines will look better. Promise.

651419

651420

P.S. ¿Dubious? please hurry up, we only have nine days left. You need to finish a character and do the half of the collaboration by then! :o

skorpi
April 20th, 2009, 02:04 PM
@AhChu: Why not a mobil suit, but not to big one. I'm look forward what you will design.
And thanks :) Like Lostlimeturtle said, the reflection is her dark personality.

@Lostlimeturtle: Thanks :)
I attach the black white work, but if you can make it more interesting, do it. Do you like the lines in 300 dpi resolution?
I like your progress with the mech so far. Is she going outsine on your pic? Then Bot could hald an umbrella for her :D

About the final format: Whats about simple 600x800 pixel? (make 2500x3333 at 300 dpi)

I know, the rumbling roser will run, now i go to test some poses :)

AhChu
April 20th, 2009, 08:11 PM
Cheers for the explanation, man you have some nice values for your grey scale artwork...I have yet to get mine to work properly....it always end up being really muddy and I lose the contrast im trying to make....pisses me off :P
I might have a play of doing the sage aswell since we havent heard from Dubious for abit, maybe a 3-way collab :P Will thumb out final composition for shadow tonight and then start on protector in case Dubious doesnt make it to the party

skorpi
April 21st, 2009, 03:20 AM

I hope, ¿Doubious? do his work. But if not, why not a 3-way collab?

The funny thing is I drew a second compositional sketch yesterday where Bot is holding an umbrella above the technician (Btw, we have to come up with names!). I'm fine with the three-way collaboration. I'm always in to learn new stuff and doing new stuff too.

Skorpi I'd like to have the 300dpi lines today if it's possible. You can email me it if you can. It seems I'll be having quite some time left tomorrow at school so I think I'll bring my tablet along and have a go at the artwork of the hero. You want it to be a night scene? Since the values are more to black.

600x800 for the final format is fine by me. I'll make the finals presentable once I have all the artwork.

@Lostlimeturtle: Ok, I send you the lins this evening. The rain shouldn´t be so difficult :)
It hasn´t to be night, I only wantet contrast, but witz colors it shouln´t be a problem. Do what you like :)

Skorpi - Nice work, it has a really good sense of movement, does anyone want to start the sage and then we can pass it down through each of us to do different steps like Concept > Final Sketch > Colour...would be a good backup just in case Dubious doesn't get to post anything
Will be posting up what Ive done so far for the protector later tonight for your guys input

LostFayth
April 23rd, 2009, 03:23 AM
Skorpi That looks pretty amazing. The sense of movement and him looking for trouble looks really great. I have some difficulties with the background of our collaboration, could you help me later on today or tomorrow?

AhChu I'm curious about your progress so far. And yeah, it might be better to start working on the sage together since I have the feeling Dubious has forgotten us....Too bad though.

Man o man, I painted for 5 hours yesterday on the Hero...My hands and my wrists feel sore. Even when I'm writing this right now my left wrist feels so sore...:( Ah well....I'm gonna put some more work into hero and I think I'll start on the technician today. By the way, I'm willing to do the concept phase of the sage if you two are okay with it?

@AhChu: Thanks :)
And i look forward your work :)

@Lostlimeturtle: Thanks :)
Of course I help you, I should be at home at 7 pm. I´m really courious, how the hero looks now.

I´m OK if you do the concept for the sage. Any ideas yet?
AhChu, do you have any prefereces ablut sketch or color?

LostFayth
April 23rd, 2009, 05:08 AM
Hehe, not yet. I'm working on the Hero right now. I think I'll work a bit on the technician too and after that I'll do a couple of digital thumbnails and sketches for the sage.

AhChu

Some eyecandy for you two xD

I'm really battling with color and value too....But It'll work out eventually. I'm worried about the background. Any idea's? I like the reflection in the window and the colors of the background. I might work on the reflection some more and I'll put in the rain as soon as I'm finished with her and the background form, value and color.

mkay..this is what I have, I ended up mixing bits for the other designs I did..mind you this is him with a helmet on but will be off for final...just been stumbling through suit ideas as you will see :P

Image A - Shadow, the holograph will be an image of the hero, to tie them together some how and for some reason.

Image B - Refining suit idea, like I said his helmet wont be on for final and should be a cool action seen with him defending the hero. He is mixed out of the silhouette designs, gun from skinny robot, head from mobile suit....he will look bigger once there is some scale to him..

Image C - the 3 stooges :P my painfull atempts of coming up with a new suit

Talk about eye candy :D I like the designs and I think the third so the one on the far right will fit better into the characters we already made. It'll some how show they're a team. Keep em coming :D

Edit: the middle of the third image is not too bad either. I'd choose one of these two design. And go for the hologram idea. It'll work well together with the robot assistant of the technician. ;) (I'm not telling how, yet xD)

Cheers matey, here is a little present for ya....it helps me when working with colour..mind you this is really rough.

Let me know what programme you use..

Its just pretty much just playing.....All I did was just darken the pic you did with a hue/sat adjustment layer....then start masking back your original lighter colours just following the character ( was thinking for a light above her)...then from the its just sampling the colours the and painting brighter colours on top to get more highlights....

Its good for quick experiments to help see quickly which direction you might want to go in.....hope some of this made sense :P

LostFayth
April 23rd, 2009, 06:26 AM
Good advice and thanks for showing me. I was planning to make the lights and values darker as soon I got the colors working. I'll make the colors darker and set the real mood I want to create. I also use Photoshop CS4.

Are you okay if I work on 150DPI with the technician. I found out that I work a lot better when I work on 150DPI instead of 300DPI. I think 300dpi is a little bit too much for me. I have to gain some more painting knowledge before I really can work on 300dpi. The Hero artwork is on 300dpi and I'll leave it like that. But believe me, you'll see the difference when I've finished both.

AhChu
April 23rd, 2009, 07:20 AM
yea 300pdi is really for printing, im working at bout 150..which is more than enough for this...well im gonna call it quits for the night....and will be back at it agian on sat..big drinking night tomorrow.

skorpi

@Lostlimeturtle: Eyecandy *yay*
I like the colors so far and how you work with the contrast between cold and warm colors.
Perhaps you can work with color perspective to in the background.
And there´s no problem in woking with 150 dpi on the hero too ;) I just took this resolution out of habitance.

@AhChu: I like the holograph idea :)
The suot remeber me of this Star Wars soldiers XD But I think, if you refine it, it will be really different.
I like the third suit idea too. The first would fit for the protector.

So, and now I should go back to work...

LostFayth
April 23rd, 2009, 07:57 AM
Phew....that is a relief. I'm gonna change the dpi to 150. Thanks for the idea of adding color perspective. I added some from left under to right upper part. That instantaneously made the image look better. I'm gonna do that too towards the background and add some atmospheric perspective too. Thanks for the idea.

The lines for the Technician look really good to me xD I might be my best character lines so far. I'm gonna add some lines for the background and I'll post it up if the lines are ready. ;)

LostFayth
April 23rd, 2009, 08:24 AM
I'm rather enthusiastic about these lines. I redefined the arm a bit to make it fit with the legs of the hero. I went for the pigtails. It was not my number one favorite but it's practical for her. I think I'll start adding some colors tonight. First things first. I need to come up with a design for the sage first. I'm gonna work on that right away ;)

653790

Edit:

Beeeh, I've run out of idea's. I've come up with some stuff that'll get your idea juices flowing I hope. Okay here's the deal. The Sage is one of the Hidden Ones. He's covered in cloth and his face isn't visable. Only two lights come out of his hoodie and the team thinks it's his or her eyes. If it has a gender that is. His silhouette is not humanlike and he doesn't move like a human being. That's true because it is a robot with only his brains from his former body. Here are some crappy silhouettes to support my story.

653943

I'll go on a weekend break tomorrow and the day after. I'll be able to respond to anything you will post here. The problem is that I have to leave my drawing supplies at home so I'll be able to continue on Sunday.

@Lostlimeturtle: I like her, she's pretty :)

The sage designs looks good, I like the one with 3 heads.
(The advantage of the designs is, they dornt give to much work to work out.)

LostFayth
April 24th, 2009, 04:00 AM
True, you saw why I made these kinds of designs. We have only a few days left and It's almost impossible to create a very detailed character in a few days (for me at least).

I like your process with the Rabble rouser. Is that a grenade he's trowing? :D

skorpi
April 25th, 2009, 03:28 PM
Finished? Any critics?

If you don''t mind, AhChu, I'll start with the sage illustration

AhChu
April 25th, 2009, 07:40 PM
Nice work Skorpi, the only thing I would say is may be either put another grenade in his other hand or attached to his belt with a space next to it missing one just so we can link it to him...or it could look like someone is throwing it at him...but aside from that cool pic.

LostFayth
April 26th, 2009, 05:46 AM
Phew, well I'm back. I had a great weekend. I hope you two also had a great weekend. I see we haven't heard anything back from Dubious, well I guess he isn't a teammember anymore. He's out.

Great work Skorpi, I agree with AhChu to add another grenade so it'll all come together. We have some busy days ahead.... we have to finish 5 more characters. Let's do this :anime:

I'm gonna paint the whole day again, I'm gonna swith back and forward with the hero and the technician. This is what I left behind on Thursday. I was darkening the colors and adding more value.

I have pretty much finished up on The Shadow, just going to double check the levels at work....I think my monitor at home is way to bright. I have the sketch of the protector done aswell will post it up in case you want it changed around at all. Will be a busy week...but a fun one at that. you we want titles designed up for characters at all...funky label or something. Will post an example tomorrow with my shadow character.
He will bealot older looking compared to the sketch. I think his left arm is to low so I might rise it up

@Lostlimeturtle: Thanks too:)
I like the hero in color. perhaps you can add some more contrast with cuves. But else great work.

I painted a bit on the sage. I didn't know, wich color I should use for his cloak, so it seams, the sage is female :D
Any inputs, critics, changes?

Oh wow, nice and creepy. Is that thing above the one with the orange eyes her arm? It could be....good job and thanks for the advice :D

[Edit]
I've gotta stop painting for today because my arms feel sore. This where I'm at with the technician. I've done a first pass on the background and I made a basecolor layer for the technician and Bot. (We've gotta come up with names :P) Any idea's/input so far? Oh and it's gonna be a nightscene.

So, finally
First critic, AhChu, I tried some lines on the hans and I think his right arm should be a bit longer.

Lostlimeturtle: I like the one with more contrast better. And even if the "umbrella" isn't a real one, I think it make sense, so construct it like one.

the sage: Finishrd? I donts know. Any critic?

LostFayth

Hody doody guys, sorry for no posting but work has been flat tak...but back on again...Ive tweaked the pose for protector...still got to refine face...the one there is just a placeholder til I finsh the rest of him. oh and Im going to move the holster down further rather than being so high

Lost - nice work, the only thin I would do would be a couple of highlights on her just to pop her out more and slightly reduce the highlight of the light above her..just so she is more of the main focus... :)

Scopri..and on the sage maybe had abit of texture cloaky hood thing.

All righty then! Round two is up.

What are we gonna do? Some things to think about?

Are we gonna take a fourth member?
Are we gonna keep the brief (if so we could add/remove something to improve it)?
Hoe are we gonna divide the characters?

Anything else?

skorpi
July 26th, 2009, 08:14 AM
Why not a forth member, then we have some new inputs compare to round 1.

I prefer to use this time a consistent drawing/ painting style, even if we are different persons.
-So, do we paint realistic or do we work with outlines?
-Wich genre/ world/ setting we do this time?

New sketchbook or only different first posting?

LostFayth
July 26th, 2009, 09:07 AM
I've posted a 'hired' post for anyone to join us.

I second that consistent painting style. We just have to agree on which style that'll be. Realistic-ish is fine with me. I was curious if we could use the genre/world/setting from the first team chow and use it now too. I guess we'll be making the antagonists this time and it'll be a good exercise to do them in the same world. Maybe we could loose or adjust/refine the details we had (like robotic parts = magic).

I'm down for keeping this sketchbook. That'll keep all the work we did as a team nicely together.
EDIT
You know what. Let's make another sketchbook. It'll keep the rounds apart and organized. Is it okay if I started the sketchbook this time?

skorpi
July 26th, 2009, 09:30 AM
If we do the antagonists I'm fine using the same setting :)

and just start the new sketchbook :)

Hiddy ho, I do hope we get to do bad guys this time, would be cool to do a new setting, but I am quite happy to stay with what we have and flesh it out more. Im done for a more painted style and trying to bring the look together more. I think we should sort out the characters earlier on for all so if someone drops out or pulls out we dont have to try and design something at the end. Waahhhooo looking forward to this
