I actually made this before hand, but when I saw the title of this daily sketch, I automatically thought "I made this before!"

Still a speedpaint, at 1.5 hours I think.

My first DSG attempt. Been working on the good ol' speedpaint in Photoshop and I've never drawn a dragon before. :)

Loving what you guys are coming out with
erebusnight I really like the icy highlights on the dragon and the size reference you have with the child
Mitze Really cool shot, looks like the priest is summoning him from his slumber
Unauthodox That picture makes me laugh every time I look at it, classy as
Grimrabbit Fantastic angle and execution of the landscape!

I've updated mine but I think I should stick with what I uploaded originally.

Here's my entry.

We got some nice entries so far. Good concepts. I did one of a dragon waking in his jammies... but it wasn't so nice as Unorthadox's

Thought I would give this one a shot, not really sure if it completely fulfils the theme. Took just under 90min in Photoshop CS2.

Unorthadox- awesome! Made me laugh so hard.

http://www.rustybubble.net/dsg1471.jpg
First try doing a "painting" style to sketch (instead of just lines).

erebusnight
April 3rd, 2009, 12:46 PM
Mitze and darthkrallt:

While textured brushes like the ones you use are great for a subtle effect, try to use more hard-edged brushes, like the regular round brush that comes with photoshop. It'll make things less "fuzzy looking".

Also, mix both the soft-and-faded feeling of faraway landscapes with sharp, small, detailing strokes that give a sense of something going on in the foreground.

Good job so far! Keep it up!

Wanted to try a somewhat comedic angle on this. However, I have to say it probably doesn't begin to match up to most of the awesome in this thread. :D

There once lived a dragon. Its name was Gus. Every spring, the bravest knight and dragon slayer of all the lands would carefully stride to Gus' cave and offer the beast his morning coffee. Gus was a happy dragon and never killed anyone because dragons only do that when they're grouchy. The end!

I guess my lurking days are over :).. so there it goes.
A first time for everything right.

http://www.elsakroese.com/stuff/conceptart6april.jpg
I'm not tooo fond of the concept generally but I kinda like how it turned out.

Some random comments at my fav pieces in this topic:
@ erebusnight: Gotta love the kid, and the scale of the beast. Nice :D.
@ Mitze: I really like the shape of your dragon's head.
@ Crowsrock: Sweet :D, I like it, all though the little flower is something I personally would have left out)
@ Freddy Scribbles: Really nice dragon design and rendering. Al also like the scribbly mountains in the back heh.

I guess I should go and make a sketchbook or something o_0

Unorthadox- God, that is hilarious
Freddy Scribbles- Very nice!

I woulda sworn there would have been way wayy more pics like mine. Guess I'm the only one who feels like death in the morning. ; )

edit: Okay, I'm totally blind, or my internets were clogged, I see that there are two others with the groggy morning thing. Now I don't feel so alone hahaha...
...oh god I'm out of coffee AGAIN.

Long-time CA lurker, this is my second DSG since I joined. :P

I should have stuck to straight sketching, but I wanted to try a bit of painting... About 45 minutes, all told. Looking at it now, there's a bunch of stuff I was supposed to erase but didn't... so here's a text link:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b102/GraphiteGolem/dragonawakens.jpg
The dragon emerges... early, because the snowpeople are having a party over his cave! Panic ensues!

A doodle at work - I didn't know I had it in me!! I'll let you decide.

My attempt. About 2 hours or so. I tried to make the dragon appear to be very massive, the size of a mountain. I'm not sure that really worked out that well.

Thirteen what you could do is add more vertical reference to compare the size of the dragon to. Like add a little hut or tree on the side of the mountain. The things is that the mountain in front of it is of an unknown height to the viewer making any comparison difficult.
