Sooo difficult...narrowed down to:
bstsk: love the cat concept - never would have thought of that
marcuswelbey: just love the design, the lighting and his dreds
Wafflekoan: really clever design and I love his hands
Shout out to: cookiedough - love the style and colours and the feel of 70's nostalgia (even though the guitar is a bit off)
AND Artina - great idea, I love his facial expression and the little details
waffleKoan
April 8th, 2009, 04:40 PM

1st - Chate Noire - perhaps one of the finest STYLIZED centaurs I`ve seen. it has so much life in it... the character is outstanding, the pose is a pure delight, and the colors are bold and compliment the overall lighting. the line work is phenomenal as usual.
2nd - Urih Pta2 - a very strong stylization of character and features, with a good execution and a very very nice idea. the pose and face are my favorite bits in this piece. I`m not too sure what`s going on with the cast shadow there under the centaur`s feet, though.
a great Stylized character never the less.
3rd - Jpedro - just a lovely character. the style is very appealing and the warm colors have a nice vibe to them, though perhaps the color scheme is too saturated as a whole. good pose and rendering.

April 9th, 2009, 04:29 AM
MurdokX: its weird, I love it.
Romero: anatomically the horsepart is one of the best, great foreshortening of the legs. Here face could be improved.
Bstsk: Pro work.

Well, I could deliberate over this all day, so I'm just going to go for it and vote. I actually have 6 that I want to put into the top 3 - not going to happen, so I've had to choose as follows (but Kudos to the three listed in my honourable mentions as these could have easily also made the top 3!)
1: Jpedro - my clear winner; all round greatness - no faults!
2: The Antartican - great style, unique and humorous - the name of the stylised challenge after all!
3: Chate Noire - has a witty feel to it and nicely stylised and painted - only fault would be that the back foot doesn't seem "grounded" enough in the grass (in my opinion), which is why it's my third this month
Honourable mentions:
Rvdtor, Marcuswelbey and bstsk are also amongst my favourites this month: I love how much Rvdtor pushed the stylisation (although, I don't generally think of horses being spindly, they're very powerful creatures so this is why it didn't make my top 3); marcuswelbey has created a real classic stylised centaur which i love to bits - as there were so many great entries, however, I had to find reasons not to vote this time, and so as it's less humorous than others I had to use this as a reason (sorry!!!!); finally, bstsk has created another stunning piece, but the 3DTotal team realised he looks more cat-like than horse-like, and with so, so, so many great entries this month it hasn't made my top 3 for that reason (again, sorry!!).
Perhaps one of the best challenges yet, after the Troll one? Thanks to eveyone for making it so successful, it's been a real pleasure to follow this challenge! We look forward to seeing everyone's Jesters :)

April 9th, 2009, 10:09 AM
awesome round it was indeed :)
my votes go to:
1) Chate Noire, really love the expression and pose, so much personality in there(slight touch of bored arrogance, but lovely)..your style and overall execution is really sweet, as usual.
2) Urih Ptah2....Giraffe KentaurBaller? Slam dunk :) i love it.
3) TheAntarctican, really clean image, awesome expression on the girl, you can really tell how much fun she is having.
bstsk and rvdtor, waffleKoan and pretty much all other entries for this round....you again made me aware how much i hate voting, since you all made really cool images!
many thanks for the votes and all the nice comments on mine, hope you all have a good long week end!
best,
Jan

Seriously tough decision this time.
I went for:
1. bstsk. I love the pose and expression, and the stylization of both character and painting method.
2. Urih_pta2. Great character. The face is awesome, and the Giraffe-basketball player concept works really nicely.
3. rvdtor. The long, thin, almost surreal bodyparts are lovely, and the pose works wonderfully with them, creating a sort of posh high fashion centaur.

#1alberto cubatas-because it reminds me of this

#2uriah- the logic of this picture humbles my mind
#3chate noir- it looks like the lady part has a massive lady part.

BSTSK - I love this picture. Not really a centaur if it's not part horse, but he's badass.
Chate Noire - Very stylish, shows a lot of character. Looks like she could make it into a Disney film too.
Artina - Not the cutest boy here, but I do like his attitude, colours and leg-guards. Also, I appreciate the effort put into righting the horse front torso so that it really looks ready to support some weight rather than just a horse's head.
Oritey
April 10th, 2009, 06:22 AM
Urih_pta2 - the best !!!
The Antarctican - the most unusual usage of centaur!
jpedro - the most beautifull and almost naked she-centaur!

1. Chate Noire - Great execution and concept, looks like an interesting character
2. jpedro - Great execution and character too... Almost shared first place, but I can only pick one
3. rvdtor - Cool idea with the legs and all :)

It's hard to decide, great works in this contest.
1st-chat noire. the soft ambient, the volume and shadows in the character, and the equilibrated weight of the centaur.
2nd-jpedro. I love the inocent aspect, the color/tone of scene and the dynamic sense.
3rd-rvdtor. I think is a very difficult work try to give volume to such a stylized figure, but you did it, and the backgtround has and interesting color combination.
so cool works too for me:
bstsk-so clean lines and stylized character.
urih- great concept, so clare.
antarctican- good color and background work.
murdokx- it remember me an ancient war machine
artina- I love this guy, this pose.

Here is my Votes and Comments.
It was pretty hard to choose the top 3. I do try to make honest and constructive suggestions so please don't take it the wrong way.
1. Chate Noire - Curl Girl - Excellent characterization and pose, beautifully drawn and coloured.
2. Jpedro - Cute Elf Babe - See above, I liked it better without clothes on!
3. The Antarctican - Caroselle - Great cartoon style as usual, what's your fascination with Sideshows and Fun-Fairs. I think you want to run away and join the Circus!
Wafflekoan - Elephant Warrior - Great weight to this character, slightly awkward hands.
Urih_pta2 - Basketball - Georgeuos character but needs a background.
Bstsk - Lion - Lovely finish to the colouring, there's a story there too.
Tolgatanyel - Creeping Mohawk, I like the solidness of the pose and the intaglio scratch out shading, a touch too static perhaps
Romero - Pegasus Girl - Nice drawing and proportions, wings look a bit under done.
Albertocubatas - Elf Babe Bareback Monstaur - pretty good drawing but there are some weird layering effects going on, there is one hell of an exiting story wrapped up in this one.
Murdokx - Troy - Whacked out idea is great but needs more finishing I think, too messy in the blending.
Artina - Polo - Nice character but I don't like the colour idea on this piece.
Rvdtor - Thin Model - defiantly stylized, it has a weird specter quality to it.
Marcuswelbey - Archer Crusty - Nice character and colouring, perhaps needs more shadow and depth.
The_original_Sean - Hockey Logos - Great drawing and unique idea, but colour design isn't great.
Nuatatori - Water Witch - Freaky scary mood to this one, not enough definition to the edges and the character doesn't connect with the viewer.
Tommoy - Centurian - I like the movement but this needs a lot more refinement.
Cookiedough - Minstrel - Cute take on the subject with nice textures, but I've never seen guitar strings bend quite like that before!
Angel Intheuk - Archer Girl - quite good pose and expression but more blending and finishing needed to this.
Cocou - Samurai - Nice idea, mood and attention to detail but face is a bit weird a,d could have done more to the background.
Enosh B - Knight - Good pencil and shading, but put some work into proportions, look at the hands.
Machua - Blue Mane Babe - Good idea for a character but the placing of the character doesn't give impact.
Cheers

I finally have enough posts to vote, yay!
jpedro: My favourite piece :) It's vibrant, warm and happy! Love the design, colours and style of it as well as the pose.
The Antarctican: Love the characters in this one. The expressions and poses are great as well as the idea for the overall piece. Also the overall finish is well presented.
bstsk: Dark with great lighting. Really like the centaur design with a cat body and the body/face is well drawn and proportioned. The pose is great and the simple background sets off the character really well.
Others I really liked were Chate Noire's , Urih_pta2's and Cookiedough's. Great round everyone! :)

And the Winners Are......
1st: Chate Noire
2nd: Jpedro
3rd: Bstsk
Well done all! :)
Note: 3rd place this month was actually tied: both Bstsk and Rvdtor both had the same score; however, as we must have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, we went through the votes again and found that Bstsk had more 1st place votes cast than Rvdtor, which is how we decided on our 3rd place winner this month. Hope that makes sense!
And congrats to all the following who will also have their work featured in the May issue of 2DArtist magazine:
4th: Rvdtor
5th: The Antarctican
