hi, here is my latest sketch for my thunderdome entry.
its the same as my ape, but i 'shaved' it to make it more creature-like and less primate. if that makes sense.
i need help on the proportions, even though its a creature and has arm as long as its body!! any help will be greatley appreciated.

sorry for the big d/l.
also, he (would be) moving kinda slowly left (his right). (think of a gorilla casually walking)
but would he fall over?
if this is cheating for the thunderdome, then let me know and i'll delete this thread.
thanks for any help/advice in advance.

I think you need more of a curve on the outside edge of his left hand. Where his hand and finger meet. A inward curve there. I wouldn't hurt also to spread that finger out more. As for the knee, if you want it facing up, you would have to move the knee up higher and show more of the bottom of the leg. Right now the knee is facing front and down a bit. And the top of the line for the stomach on his right needs to curve in more. To match the size of the stomach on the left. Hope this helps.

hi, thank for the help. i'll sort out the problems now.
about the knee, were you talking about the right (his left) knee? because that one is supoosed to be facing out/down. i was talking about the left (his right) knee, the one behind the arms.
and i'm not sure what you meen by the stomach. do you meen the outer line or inner line needing to be curved in more?
thanks again.

Ahh, okay wires crossed! I was talking about his left knee, as I figured that was the one you were talking about. Okay, you'll have to bring the lines up on his right knee then, right now it looks like he is kneeling on it. And the outer line on his stomach just before it makes that jog outward for the wrinkle before the chest starts. More helpful?:)

:) np.
knee: move the lines up? you meen move the whole knee up? if i move it up muxh more, his foot wont be touching the floor (he has ahort legs)
belly: you meen get rig rid of the wrinkle? (its actually suppost to be his rib cage :( :o :( , :) lol) or do you meen just curve it more inwards (towards your right) before it hits the 'wrinkle'?
sorry for being such a dumb ass :D
and thanks loads for all the help.

I think you should just give up. You'll never win.
It is pointless to resist.
(And by that I mean your image looks kick-ass so far, and I second all the fixes that have already been mentioned. Maybe push his fingers apart a bit more and shorten his toros. He looks a little top-heavy, even for a primate.)
Edit: Oh, something I just caught. His left upper tricep to shoulder connection looks off. You should push back the tricep line a bit so it meets with the shoulder a bit further up.

i will rather die in battle than give up to a puney, skrutey runt like you!...rraaaarrrrghhhh!!
(and by that i meen thanks for the kind comments. really appreciate it. thanks for spotting the shoulder. you meen the closest one? push back like puch it to the right abit?)
(thanks ;))

LOL you guys are cool! LOL Ok, I was looking at the first pic! Ok, knee, put a little bit of the knee poking out from behind his arm. Belly side! lol (your lines are so light) I think the top of his right leg should go up the belly further, if you have his belly hanging down between his legs. (lol, not to complicate anything further.)
Belly: Yeh, second one. Don't get rid of the wrinkle, curve it in before just before you hit the wrinkle.
And I agree with lavhoes on the tricep, LOL I just couldn't figure out how to tell you to fix it! Good Luck!:D

hi, i havent fixed the problems yet. (i know, i'm a bad, bad boy! please dont hurt me...) but i tried adding some colour...DIGITALY!! yep, thats right folks. the traditional freak has had a taste of the digital world...and i liked it!!
its like my 4th time at colouring digitaly, using painter 8. well, the 30 day trail. i've ordered the full package and it should arive on friday.
so dont laugh!! ;)
http://img6.photobucket.com/albums/v19/cartoonfox/tribal_colourtest1.jpg
the reason its bad quality is because i couldnt export it, or save it (30 day trail, see) so i had to take a screen shot.
the blue thing is supposed to be a tattoo, one of many. if anyone knows how to create a realistic looking tattoo using painter 8, please let me know.
took me about an hour. if i keep practicing, hopefully i'll be good enough to produce a finished piece by the time the TD7 deadline comes.
c&c much needed.
...
...by the way, lavhoes smells!!....;)

Looks good so far. Why'd you erase the face. It looks pretty good to me? I kind of liked the way the right knee looked in the very first picture you put up. With part of his foot sticking out past his hand. It looks more right than this one does.:)

whoo, so far I like this guy. I've seen a lot of improvement in your work lately;)
let's see...there's not much left to comment on at this point. However, perhaps the fingers, as mentioned before, should still be a bit farther apart? Or maybe they need to be defined a bit more.
Anyway, looks good. Hope you do well in the Thunderdome!

I think you have to raise his right leg up more. It doesn't look like it's in quit the right spot. Are you putting his toes in on that foot. (his right one I mean) Sticking out behind the arm?:)
cartoonfox
December 18th, 2003, 06:22 PM
well, i'm not to sure if his foot would be visable. he has short legs, and i'm not sure whether it should be bent (like the other) or strched out. i'll see what it looks like.
i'll raise the leg, thanks for pointing it out.

looking better;) I noticed you added something attached to his back. Is that a weapon, perchance?
I think nikia is right about raising his right leg. Perhaps you could try lifting it so it connects with the body on the same level as the left leg.
