ROUND #153 :: Dr WHO: The FINAL DOCTOR
DESCRIPTION
Dr WHO: The FINAL DOCTOR: A TWO week CHOW
He has been through them all. His lives burnt up through the aeons of time, and The Doctor has reached his final regeneration. There will be no more.
Design the Doctors final form. His last appearance before time claims him, or doesn’t…
With David Tennant stepping down and Matt Smith, the youngest ever actor to play the Dr stepping up to fill his shoes, decide where his regenerations might lead. It could be simple or complex, so go with your imagination. However, try and keep it within the Whoniverse, the world of Dr Who. And remember, this is a TWO WEEK ChOW.

My other favorite is the 4th Doctor... Tom Baker. He is the one I grew up watching on PBS as a kid.
Aside from him being a brilliant Doctor... my reasons for liking David Tennant are not quite so innocent. :yum: haha!

Yes, it's because of Dallas, so I won't be around on monday next week, so it's much easier to do a two-parter.
Also, I have something special lined up for ChOW in time for dallas, so keep your eyes peeled! ;)

does anyone know if the doctors have become younger and younger at every new doctor, or is it just a coincidence, if that is the case then maybe the last doctor may only be a young child, and thats why there will only be 13 doctors, or maybe even 13 will be the unlucky age. ;)

I don't think he's become consistantly younger, but it has turned out that way more or less. However, I think the way Dr Who is marketed these days has changed the way actors are selected to play him. A younger more dynamic Dr fits in with the zeitgeist. The Doctor has to be 'sexy' now. We're unlikely to ever get a sixty plus year old William Hartnell again as the Doctor. And yet the most action packed Dr was probably Jon Pertwee, who also did most of his own stunts, and he was about 50 when he took over.

If I recall that actually is one of the side effects of the regen process...getting younger....I just can't recall if it applied to all Time Lords or not. Though I wouldn't say that the Doctor was an ordinary Time Lord anyway. It will be hard to get Tom Baker out of my mind as well..."The Mind of Morbius" was the first episode I had ever seen....kinda stuck.
At least you should recognize my avatar, eh Daray?

Hmmm, is he in any relations to a Sean Pertwee? The actor who's been Dog Soldiers and Doomsday (besides a few other movies I've seen him in) - cuz, I really like Sean....he's got a rugged sexayness 'bout him.
Awright...enough of my schoolgirl crushes...I LOVE Dr. Who and am rather happy Tenant is stepping aside! I did like Christopher Eccleston's turn, though. Man, I remember catching the eps with either Tom Baker or Peter Davison in the role.
Lots to consider here........

Oh My! Such a cool topic! but GAAAHHH! It's gonna be tough designing the final doctor and all, and I agree, the iconic scarf is one image that immediately strikes home when it comes to the WHO. Yet it's gonna be a blast seeing everyone's take on the good doctor:yayca:

I am not too familiar with the show, but does the Doctor have any special powers? I browsed through the Wiki description, but could not find any.
He's got two hearts, so presumably more stamina, has minor psychic/telepathic abilities, can absorb radiation, and a screwdriver that does just about anything from lighting candles to resonating concrete. ;) Also he can McGuyver all kinds of random technology. (It goes ding when there's stuff.)
If I recall that actually is one of the side effects of the regen process...getting younger....I just can't recall if it applied to all Time Lords or not. Though I wouldn't say that the Doctor was an ordinary Time Lord anyway.
I don't think it's a side-effect of regeneration... as far as I know, the first couple forms stayed more or less in the same age range and then the 5th Doctor was much younger (hired on around 29?). Something like that. It's actually been suggested that the Doctor kind of sucks at regenerating-- that usually Time Lords had more control. Romana in the old series apparently
"tried on" a bunch of different forms before settling on one she liked. But the Doctor can't seem to do this. Which actually makes this topic much more fun, really.
I don't know if I'll try to do this one or not... on the one hand... Doctor Who omg. On the other... I'm not sure what I'd do. There's the temptation to do a very young Doctor, but... in my head the right age for the Doctor is Tennant, who's 37 or something like that. Mid-30's seems appropriate.
I think the only guideline here, really, is to come up with as wacky and eccentric a costume as possible. Because if you're not wearing celery, a 15-foot scarf, or a crazy overcoat, you clearly aren't cool enough to be the Doctor. ;)

Last Dr. Who I watched was about 6 regens ago, so I've some catching up to do, though I suppose he's been a fairly constant character over the decades in terms of his basic personality. It's all the quirky details that made his various incarnations so interesting.

Gonna brave it and try to pull this one off before I get weak-kneed from wracking my brains out eventually. I see the doctor in his mid thirties but has a lot of white hair, long too. As much as I'd like to add newer garments for him, I do like the overlong scarf he has, maybe a new pattern design but it's still gonna be there though. And a big smug look on his face, he may not be perfect but he sure had his share of adventures, good or bad he's still the man:D

No problem! I have actually only seen the new series myself, but I used to hang out a lot on the LiveJournal Doctor Who community to discuss episodes while Season 4 was airing, and picked up a lot of details from that. (I think the regeneration issue came up because of the craziness they pulled off in the season finale.)
And for those lacking inspiration, I recall that one of the Doctor's other names is "The Oncoming Storm" (from the Daleks, I think), so that might be a fun idea to play around with.
Also, since we're talking character design, I have to share this: Doctor Mew? (http://www.zazzle.com/doctor_who_cats_poster-228406097466018977)

This is a good one, and 2 weeks means I can't use the old excuse of 'not enough time to finish', I'm in.
And I agree with whoever said Tom Baker's their favorite doctor. That's the one I grew up watching (old age alert!), so he's always going to be the template the others are judged by. I also liked the guy who was right before David Tenant, he was a good mix of smart and offbeat . . .

You'd think 2 weeks would be enough, but I am going on vacation. Still, I can bring a drawing pad and I'll have my laptop.
This sounds like a great CHOW to cut my teeth on. I love the Doctor. I have enjoyed all of his incarnations, but Tom baker is my favorite. Pertwee was my least favorite, maybe because he was stuck on Earth much of his run. I will miss Tennant (sp?). The new guy scares me, but as I said, I pretty much like them all.
There was a story that depicted the Doctor's last incarnation: Trial of a Timelord (or something like that) The Doctor, disguised as the Valeyard put the Doctor on trial so that the Doctor would have to give up his remaining regenerations to the Valeyard as his punishment. A bit of a contradition, but that's time travel for you. And that's why this contest is not anymore of a contradiction. ...and a lot of fun!
BTW, a new episode airs on Easter Sunday. I can't wait!!!

Pixie Trick-- I hear you, I'm kinda wary of the new guy, but the way I figure it is this. They wouldn't have cast him if he didn't have an absolutely crazy good audition.

I followed it in the 80's and, of course, Tom Baker was my favorite. I didn't get to watch the newer series but I think Tennant definitely has the right look for the doctor (Sylvester McCoy was the one I liked least). New guy definitely doesn't strike me as Doctor Who at all.
I'm thinking of a more toned-down, human version of the Doctor. I think because I pictured a vulnerability about him being The Final Doctor, more contemplative and peaceful.

My Dr. Who.....is an addcitive for wierd objects from all around the time.....specially watchs....:P........As he's always travelling along the time his clothes and hair cut are totaly out of date.......also his objects........they seem to be from a time out of future present and past.....this are kind of a misture of all times...... technologies....etc.....and well.......his police box is not exactly a box like the original one.....it now has the form of an hour glass...

here's what I'm cooking up so far
Even for a Time Lord, regeneration has it's limits. Ignoring the danger, poised at the end of time itself, the Doctor pushed through one last regeneration.
But some boundaries should never be crossed . . . the failing life energies became corrupt and reversed, transforming him into his final incarnation, forever undead . . . a life eater.

Gonna try for some feedback since I have been too busy to play for a while...
Keep rocking the awesome art around here, folks!
grey - very unique take on this, and I like the line work. It concerns me that there isn't much telling me who he is (it could be anyone's well-dressed skeleton zombie, really) Push the context more in the rendering?
dirkvandulmen - Watch out for you perspective, the figure is dead on straight standing up, and the police box is leaning off the picture plane to the right. If you are going to distort the perspective, carry it through everything, not just one element. Also, I think the character needs more character, he looks like a bored kid at the moment. A good beginning, tho, really PUSH the concept (you've seen every episode, bring more of that into this)
MJ Alcazar - I love the costume. Watch out for the small feet and the face sloping down on the left. (in PS, flip the image horizontally, you'll see all kinds of things) Good beginning :^^:
kisou - the star of this piece is not your figure, it is the lamp post. I like that you are trying to set a darker mood, but don't forget the whole point of CHOW is CHARACTER - I need to see the figure, his expression, and to understand who he is as a person from your drawing. Push it LOTS further, and make the character more the focus. Keep going!
Daniela Blanco - I like the idea of watches and time fitting into the concept for a space and time traveling doctor, but don't stray too far, remember this needs to keep in line with the universe that exists. Interested to see where you go with this.
sekino - I really like his experssion, he looks compelling and optimistic already, so awesome characterization. The box behind him makes the composition heavy on the right right now, some interest in the upper left will help balance this image out more. Maybe more alien/supernatural elements to give more context?
shannanigan - Need to see more to tell on this one, I think. I like where the head gear is going, tho.
espenboi - I like the rendering, and the glowy effects are neat, but he is kind of bland at the moment. This show is campy, and the doctor solves mysteries and goes on adventures. This could be LOADS more exciting.
dwinbotp - I think this is the one I am most excited about, I love the characterization so far, the motion and composition look well balanced and exciting. Maybe add some allusions to the alien/supernatural elements, too, not just the time thing, cause there are lots of time travelers but this particular one is very unique. Also, watch the blackBLACK shadows and the skin going too contrasty (pure white highlights may not be necessary, either). Check out some of PoshSpice's gallery, he handles skin exquisitely, and without black shadows (those tend to drag the whole thing down). Make it amazing, I am looking forward to what you do with this.

I have an update with the colour scheme; I did intend to have a couple of faint stars appear in the twilight in the upper left corner, but I don't know if it does the job. Maybe more of the night sky? A nebula? I don't want to add something too heavy or wacky (because I want a 'still' mood) but I'm open to suggestion :)
Shannanigan- I like it so far... I like the humourous touch ;)
Daniela Blanco- Nice start! I like the character design. But as Jessibean said, I'm not sure which elements have to remain 'canon' and which can be altered. For example, the Doctor's ship always looked like a police box because the camouflage system was broken. It might be totally acceptable to play around with, I don't know. I'm certainly not the pro on all things WHO ;)
grey- Haha! interesting idea!
MJ Alcazar- Great character- really strikes me as the Doctor. Aside from being a bit too small, I love the shoes (I'm noticing shoes a lot these days :P)!
kisou- Good start, but the character is hidden in the darkness. Maybe a strange light shining on him (or from the police box's window)?

grey - very unique take on this, and I like the line work. It concerns me that there isn't much telling me who he is (it could be anyone's well-dressed skeleton zombie, really) Push the context more in the rendering?
thanks for the comment Jessica - I shouldn't have taken it for granted that everyone's as much of a geek as me and would instantly 'get' the Tom Baker reference. I'll work up the trademark scarf in the final, and probably do a classic Dr Who warpy background to pull it all together

Thanks Jessibean for the tip. I will keep the blacks away from the good doctor's face as much as possible. Here's what I have so far, gonna rush this one a bit, gonna be busy but I do so want to finish this even if it turns out crappy. C&C like always are very welcome:)

dwinbotp- He's one badass Doctor! :D My only crit so far is that his right hand doesn't look like it is resting on his arm. It really looks like he's holding something... maybe a sonic screwdriver? :P Can't wait to see the details on the clock in the BG!
dirkvandulmen- You captured the look of a youth very well and it is a great concept. He does look a bit bored right now. If you could make him a bit more... bratty and mischievous, maybe? You're close to a very fun interpretation! :)

I though I wasn't going for this one.....as I've never seen Dr. Who before.....and didn't get to much inspired by it........but finally got an idea......don't really know how much it fits in the concept....but I'll give it a try!..
I actually think it will be interesting to see what non-fans and people unfamiliar with Doctor Who come up with! As a total fangirl geek I'm really excited about this... :D
The only thing is the TARDIS doesn't change... its been the same through the 30+ years of the show. Its very iconic, so as cool as your new TARDIS is, it may take away from your character being recognizable as Doctor Who. But I love his more classic Edwardian looks and the gadgets. Wish I had thought of them! LOL!

As one Doctor Who geek to another, you are forgetting the brief time when the Doctor was working on the chameleon circuit. During this brief time, the TARDIS changed shape, as a working one is supposed. Once, it changed into an organ. The Doctor and Peri had trouble finding their way back in.

Thanks Jessibean, Sekino, Dwinbotp, for the comments. I flipped the image and I swear it looked like I had walked into one of those fun houses with all the crazy mirrors!
Dwinbotp - looking good so far! I'm loving the white hair.
Nateshaw - cool WIPS. The second one looks a bit like the Riddler though. But, just a bit.
Sekino - I like the mood. I'm liking just the two stars. If you want to get a little crazy with it, very faintly put a few more stars in the general shape of a question mark? (I'm probably going to wake up tomorrow and think that sounds crazy.)
grey - like the direction.
Daniela - I like how your sketching out ideas. Can't wait to see your interpretation. I would heed the warnings of some of the others though. From the research I did, the police box was pretty constant.
Dirkvandulum - I can see this interpretation being really fun, I hope you push it further. :)

LOL! It did cross my mind because there was a recent post on Boing Boing about whether the next Doctor ought to be played by a woman (I was okay with the idea as long as it would be a middle-aged weirdo like the other WHOs, not some sexpot :P). I don't know if time-lords/ladies can switch gender though (the Doctor was always male and Romana was always female, as far as I know...).

I don't think the Doctor has ever changed sex.... but as I was so politely "pwnd" earlier about my lack of TARDIS knowledge I'm not going to state that with any certainty.
Personally I wouldn't care for it... You know it would be a sex kitten alien romp because Eccentric women over 35 don't sell to the 18-34 male demographic.... I should know. :P

wow....:D......lots of great critics and comments........also lots of great ideas so far...
Thanks a lot for the usefull critics JessiBean, Sekino, dwinbotp, shannanigan and MJ_Alcazar!! :D
I got the idea now after the critics.....good to know you people liked the idea of the gadgets ....so I'll defintly keep up with it........About the Police Box......I dont really know if I'm going to include it in my drawing....but if I will it will have its original form....for keeping inside the concept.
I decided to work different from what I'm used to this time.....as this is 2 week chow.....I'm going to work with lines.....The next thing to do is draw in the gadgets on him....
And now some critics and comments:
kisou : I really like your idea.......nice to see a so different approach on Dr. Who......but as someone already said.....it worrys me a little that she doesn't appear so much in this light......I'm looking forward to see all those city lights finished...:D
MJ_Alcazar: The second one is much much better........it really helps to flip the image on Photoshop.....you kind of see things your brain stop to see after sometime looking at the same thing......I love his coat....
dirkvandulmen: nice start.......I love the style you gave him by making his feet bigger......keep up!
grey: loving yours.......it's the most creative concept so far.....in my opinion......looking forward to see what you come up with colors....I imagine some glow around him and well.....maybe inside him.....:P?? just wondering...
Sekino : great entry.....I really like your composition and mood.......but I agree that you should add something more to the left above....for balancing it..........also I would clear a little his eyes region....it's too dark.....but it's just a metter of taste...so you can just ignore it...:P
dwinbotp : I'm loving yours as always............great dynamic pose.....and great personality....also loving the background.....Keep up :D
NateShaw : wow....really great start.......I like more the right one's clothes and face/hair.....but I prefer the first one' pose.......just complicating things....:P
shannanigan: I loved his face and the idea of the screwdriver......but his clothes really remembers me of your entry on Mr. Brownstone PI....maybe change its colors?? I went back there and saw it again...and the design is really different...what reapets are the colors..... Well.. I caught myself doing almost MR. Brownstone.......:D well...That doens't really make it looks bad....so you can just ignore and continue what you'r doing...:P
geronimo66 : great start....I can see much of the character yet....so I'll have to wait for commenting on that....but I loved the Police Box....specially how you made it look like old and to much used already...:P
Enough of writing....hope I've helped....

This is a sweet topic.
I've been working this idea around for the past few days and have finally gotten around to posting it.
I'm going for an older doctor. He's nearing the end of his life and has for the most part accepted it. That doesn't mean he's given up though. This old birds got some kick left in him and he'll go down swinging.
I hope I can finish it in time. I still have over a week but I have other projects to take care of as well and I want to take my time on the good doctor.

Daniela Blanco: The Doctor never used guns so the gun (I don't think) in his left hand is a little out of place. Not a big deal if you kept it but we shouldn't be able to see the hole at the end because of the way he is holding it. It should be pointing down.

Fearful that I may not get enough time to devote on this fascinating topic, I have to call mine finished until the Finals thread comes out. initially I just wanted the 3/4s of the doctor but seeing as my bg was kinda concaving upwards, I decided to do the whole body and turn the bg along with the doc's coat into an hourglass shape. Added some villains/monsters(one above and 5 below) If I find anything more to improve on, i will but for now this is it. Being his last regeneration, he's finally one with the cosmos,a true master of time:)

dark knight - I know it's just a start, but maybe don't put so many colors into the background, or desaturate them. It's hard to focus on your character atm. I like how you're going for an older doctor.

NateShaw - I was totally listening to the theme music to get inspired, I love the Orbital version. Nice job on your Doc so far, no crits.
RichLyons - Far out costume, totally original. Really dig the cyberman head
MJ_Alcazar - The clothing looks good. The pose is a bit wonky. His left foot should go back to keep balance, and his right shoulder seems to stick out to far.
timothee - Cool camera angle. The right eye is too big, even though it's closer to the camera it's still too large. The shoulder also looks off, maybe move it down and forward a little.
dwinbotp - Looks awesome! I like the subtle Tardis and Daleks in the BG. Didn't the clock used to XIII at the top? I thought that was a cool touch too.
darknight - ditto on the saturated colors in the BG, right now it's a struggle to see the Doc. Desaturating the BG should help immensely.
Daniela Blanco - I know it's a WIP, but give those hands some extra attention. The pose is cool and I'm digging all the accessories.
Shannanagin - Great expression and costume. He still looks vaguely Tennanty, did you give in or was it subconscious?
ino - The Doctors a Shriner? Sorry, my brain associates things really easily. Looks good. It does look like the Doc's getting head though, maybe tilt the lizard kids head up so he's looking at the Doctors face.
Max Martelli - Looks great so far, nice line work.
Ostrander - Very fitting into the Whoniverse. Great expression, he's looks so quirky and eccentric.
dirkvandulmen - What JessiBean said. He looks more James Dean than Doctor Who.
grey - HAHA, undead Tom Baker. My favorite doctor!
I didn't even know that they started up the series again, I'm so out of touch. I watched it up until Colin Baker. I felt like doing something stylized for this CHOW. The time space grid tunnel thing is just a stand in until I have time to do a proper background, I jacked it from fotolia or istockphoto or somewhere, Mwuhaha! I hope they don't sue me.

Shannanagin - Great expression and costume. He still looks vaguely Tennanty, did you give in or was it subconscious?
I wasn't going for David Tennant... but he is young and kinda goofy which is very much Tennanty. And thats ok with me... ;)
Here is an update... lines are done, flat colors are in. The background is rough not sure what I want to do with it,
I think it needs to be more graphic and simple. Just playing around with colors at this point... not really digging the purple.
I'm keepin' it retrofied frame for sure, I like the light-hearted feel it gives.
Oh.. I still need to add the random things falling out of his pockets. Just can't decide what yet... :D
EDIT: Added Updated WIP... with fancy new "Olive" background. *WOOT!*
Much better than the purple... and I don't think I'm going to add the misc. stuff on the ground as originally planned, I'm liking it as is. Probably my last WIP... getting close to the finish line!!

Now...some comments:
RichLyons: loving yours so far.......don't really have any critics right now.....it's a great concept...
dirkvandulmen : wow....it's much better now.....he has so much personality....:D
IanLlanas : I'm liking it so far......looking forward to see what you come up with for the background......I'm kind of expecting for something a little out of normal......:P....for making a good contrast with your Dr. Who...
shannanigan : don't know if I like the purple too......but I do like the frame idea.......and I loved the textures you gave to his clothes....:D
septomin: I love your painting style and his clothes......these are really great.....but I think his face and expression has a little lack of personality.....he seems kind of disconnected...:P

RichLyons - great drawing, his face reminds of a character actor, can't remember the name for the life of me tho
dirkvandulmen - I like those different sketches, your guy has a lot of character
IanLlanas - your piece is very believable as a stereotypically nerdy/stuffy tweed Brit, good characterization
shannanigan - very polished comic style, I like the jacket texture a lot
septomin - your paint style's very developed, maybe give him something to bring more doctor character into the pic? Or just slap a sonic screwdriver in his hand . . .
daniela - shaping up, keep it comin'
kisou - the only female doctor so far, why not?
joyproject - nice mood and angle to yours, looking forward to seeing it develop

FIRST OF ALL< I LOVE THE SHOW.
I haven't done a CHOW in over 2 years, I figured this would be a great one to get back into. I started the sketch an hour ago, I think this will be fun
MY TAKE:
Dr. Who has a watch given to him that holds the count down to his death. Time has never had the meaning to him that it carries now. The watch ticking towards his death has become his compass, giving him finally once and for all a definite direction of time, it is no longer a metaphorical measurement.
In his final stage of transformation, he has given up his normal clean composure, having no time for formalities his visits become far less jovial and light hearted. His soul is unsure of whether he is prepared for this moment of his departure from existence, he finally takes notice of the afterlife, questioning the meaning of his existence.
He carries the key to the Tardis around his neck, searching for someone to hand off his legend and one true possession to, some soul to inherit his life's worth.
His days are spent fighting depression and anger, he has taking up smoking, as well as drinking to fight off his sense of being lost in space, existence and time.
WOW... a whole lot of talk, not a lot of substance yet, he is my opening sketch.

I like the idea of the final Doc who. I went for something Sean Connery like. A very imposing wise man who is still a some one who seeks adventure.

RichLyons: He is carrying sooo many things.
Sung-jae Kim: Good start. I know its very early but right now he looks a little stiff. Think about how pose and facial expression could give the character more depth.
no name brand: Nice. If Wolverine was a time lord that is what he would look like.
Razorleaf: Solid drawing. His face should be lit by a cool light like the rest of the piece.
Vampire Ninja: Cool take. Make sure you have and keep a consistent light source as you progress.
dirkvandulman: I like the first one in the lineup the best.
ino: The police box kind of bothers me because it doesn't fit the painting style of the rest of the picture.
joyproject: Right now he isn't sitting well on the wall, he needs some shadows beneath him.
kisou: Think about a little atmospheric perspective on the mountains. Objects get more grey or blue and less in focus as they recede into the background.
Daniela Blanco: I think that the building on the right's roof should be flatter.
Ianlanas: the ground could use a little of that blue reflected light.
shananigan: looks real nice. :)
septomin: Very nice painting.

geronimo66: You asked regarding adding colour to B&W drawing. Basically it comes down to tones. If you get the tones right in the B&W then when you add colour it will look right. The simplest way that`s done in Photoshop is to do your B&W in one layer then add a Color layer ontop of the B&W and start applying colour. You can also use a overlay layer that changes the tones though, however it adds a nice saturation to the colour. Just experiment that`s your best bet.

Evil Sloth: I really like his costume, there is a lot to look at. His left arm (on the right side of the picture) is really awkward though. I tried holding my arm in that way and it was really uncomfortable. Its hard to tell where the elbow is. His upper arm should be longer, the elbow comes down to about the bottom of the ribcage or I think somewhere around the middle buton on his vest.

I am Finito!!! :D
My take on the Final Doctor.... I decided he should be young so he could have a long last life, dangerous adventures permitting.
He should have plenty of time to go catin' around, get drunk, make out with chicks... all that stuff he missed because hes
constantly being a Hero. He earned it. Oh and he should finally have that red hair he has always wanted!
But being almost 1000 years old, he has some elderly personalities traits and that beloved eccentric personality of previous incarnations.
Since I'm done a week early I'm going to attempt to do some critiques... but not right now 'cause I'm late for work. :jawdrop:

Don't have time for too many crits but I'll fit in a few. Sorry if I'm blunt, tired is all.
I tried to get the ones in which something jumped out at me that was worth saying.
MJ_Alcazar: It's looking good. I like the color and your drawing is much better than I remember from sooo many weeks ago when I was doing Chow more frequently. The only thing I can think of that would need attention is that his right (our left) leg seems too short. I can see that he is supposed to be at an angle but the angle isn't so severe as to warrant his leg going back that far. The leg should probably be closer in length to the other one. If you look, the length of his thigh seems to be the problem. It is too short. I think if you lengthened that thigh and brought the foot down closer to the other one, he would sit much better in space.
Daniela Blanco: It's looking good so far. I think that a few more things need addressing before you get too far in the coloring process. For one, I think that, while amorphous and altogether alien, the tentacally monster lacks a certain firmness if that makes any sense. I suppose what I mean is that the lines lack the same boldness that is evident in the lines on the doctor. The form looks too lumpy in some places. I think that getting some tentacle reference would be beneficial if just to study the way that tentacles look when they curve and twist as yours are. Alternately if you want to go for a more snake-like quality to their movements I think that looking at some snake reference would be equally beneficial. Also, while I enjoy the use of gadjets, the watch on his chest looks a bit awkward in the fact that it is a wrist watch that is pinned to his shirt. of course, this could be what your going for as I think a wristwatch pinned to a lapel is no stranger than a stick of celery and I wouldn't put it past the doctor to do such a thing.
pixeltuner: Looks really good but I'd just watch out for a few things. His head looks a little small and his right (our left) thigh looks a little thick towards the inside. If you just shaved a bit off of his inner thigh I think it would look about right.

All I have to say is, please make sure you name the file right, you attach it properly in the Final Burning Thread and you list your WIPs, so I can vote for this kick ass piece :D
Oh and I see you're new to CA, so welcome!!
Since you're new, and joining in CHOW, you should probably read these, its vital to make it to poll:
HOW TO NAME YOUR IMAGE (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1911002&postcount=28)
YOU MUST SHOW WIPS (http://http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1910999&postcount=27)
Make sure you always use the attachment feature for everything, including WIPS (which looks like you're already doing so bravo)

Hey guys...hi. I will join in soon. Here is my few cents
Daniela Blanco: It seems to me that your doctor is not in same alignment with the perspective. As u probably noticed the platform he standing on and the BG's perspective dont match....
RichLyons: Wow, this piece is shaping up to be pretty well. I assume u will enrich your color pallette and add more variety in colors instead of having few light brownish hues....
Ino: I think this needs to have more further refinement...
rvdtor: Hey bro, have any ideas on how the bg would come into it? if u do then probably might have to change the main figure's color later
MJ Alcazar: im little worried about light and darkness balance. I think it would look better if u add more sharp colors a bit here and there as highlight or some sort. Otherwise its going to look very unique.
Evil Sloth: It seems that the anatomy has a little weirdness in it, i hope u will save it with nice coloring and refining.
Dirkvandulmen: Sweet, very stylish i see, so which one of these 3 guys is the real Dr.Who? :)
Joyprojekt: I see that u have color tone balance and shadow left to do. right? As i think that the deepest color of the sky would be as same as the shadow on everything. and the lightest color will be same as highlight colors.
Pixeltuner: Whoa, u took it to a really nice direction, i see that u only need some refinement...

Since I'm finished I thought I'd do some Critiquing. Usually I don't get a chance because I'm slow as hell and drawing takes up all my free time!
Oh for those who surely missed it... my final is HERE (http://conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=633022&stc=1&d=1238427419)
Anyways....
Pixeltuner - Love the Life-Support suit! I agree with Max that his head is a bit small and the left thigh too big. I know there is some padding there but it still seems a little off.
Joyproject - Your doctor looks kinds Sixties Mod to me... I like it. I did like the "Big Bad Wolf" better when it was big and cut off in parts. More subliminal... As for the front lighting, since he is on top of a building having a light source from below would add a cool dramatic effect. Once you find your light sources make sure the whole image gets a highlight and shadow make over so it blends together.
MJ - The Head looks great now... good job! I wasn't so sure about how dark it was in the B/W... but colored over I do like it. Though maybe a bit different background color so the Doctor doesn't get lost.
Evil Sloth - I like the character and all the time pieces and the coloring is cool... but there is something unnatural about the positioning of his arms and the foreshortening.
rvdtor - Looks nice so far...
Ino - Love the Fez.... but it lost some of the nice clean lines your initial sketches had.
RichLyons - Really looking awesome. K-9 that goes up stairs... fantastic! LOL!
Daniela - Its coming together nicely... but make sure you tweak those textures so they look more a part of the image. The stones closer to the front should be larger. The angle they are now is throwing off the perspective of the drawing. Same with the size of the windows on the right building. I can tweak it if you'd like to show you what the heck I'm talking about... ;)
Markito - Lovin' the 'Toons! I like the design on the Top-Right best I think. But I have a feeling any of them will be great... :)
Tommoy - Its very 60's Acid Trippy Cartoon style. Of course I like it. LOL!

Here's an update on my doctor. I lengthened that leg. (thanks Max!) And I've added highlights, I'm still playing with background. I wanted something spacey. He does keep getting lost though. :(
I thought that maybe some kind of patterned tunneled type background would look sort of cool, but unfortunately I can't look at patterns like that without having problems.
Nateshaw - looking good! It may be my monitor, but where's his left arm?
dirkvandulum - I'm loving his expressions. That top one is my favorite.

SYNOPSIS: It is his final regeneration, and the good Doctor is retiring, looking forward to exciting millenia of transdimensional shuffleboard and scholarly research for ASSMAF (Association for Study of Spores, Molds And Fungi), of which he is a charter member and in which he holds the title of "Exalted Shroom."
But the Universe is not so kind as to allow a quiet fade from glory. Due to an intergalactic ponzie scheme begun by a renegade Time Lord not long after the Big Bang (starting with huge investments of chlorophyll by gullible pond scum), The Master now owns all the money in the Universe, and is also retiring -- to a life of sybaritic excess on Gallifrey, having evicted all other planetary tenants.
Homeless, penniless, the Doctor sadly ponders his fate until told by his fellow mycology freak, Dr. E. Spengler, of an ASSMAF grant to study oddly luminescent fairy rings on a backward little mudball called Urth (also sometimes spelled Earth for some silly non-phonetic reason).
Traveling in the now fully-depreciated TARDIS to Brighton, England, where fairy rings are very common, the Doctor encounters an American tourist, one Dixie Kupp, a young and impressionable human female whose mother suffered from both extreme paronomasia and a woeful lack of self-control (plus an inordinate fondness for primitive Urthly entertainments known as "Bond films"). Typically, Dixie responds "Dr. who?" when the Doctor introduces himself. He replies "That's right!" and she immediately agrees to be his companion since he is obviously deeply into deep thoughts and Zenny kinds of stuff like that.
In Brighton, the Doctor also chances across his old friend and fellow time-traveler Mr. A. Dent. They exchange fashion tips over gin and tonics, and the Doctor adopts Dent's now-trademarked galactic hitchhiker grunge look, with a few customizations that Dent agrees he can franchise out in Dent's trendy boutiques, Trillian's (Locations throughout the Orion arm!).
Finally, with Miss D. Kupp in tow, the Doctor begins his study of the glowing fairy rings, only to find indisputable evidence that a yahwc (yet another huge weird creature) has taken up residence in the mist-haunted forest of Ashton! Seems retirement is only a pipe dream for our good Doctor...

masque you're a genius. You could have drawn stick figures and you'd still get my vote for the synopsis alone. Those damn gullible pond scum, they haven't evolved much to this day . . .
razorleaf you make a good point, I based the background on the cheesy swirly intro to the 80's show, but might need to tone it down before posting my final. Thanks for the crit!
