View Full Version : More Exile stuff

Hey!

Here's some more Exile stuff I've been working on. I would need a skilled coder to get anywhere though, and you can't get those to do volunteer work since everyone got plenty of projects themselves. Still, it's great fun doing these concepts.

These automatons/robots would be powered by a set of bones/skeleton, similar to SODAplay.
Most games today just throw tons of weak enemies at you, whilst in Exile, encounters are rare and presents a significant challenge. Very often you are blasted into oblivion as soon as you come in sight.

---

My idea is to paint most of the map by hand so each location is unique, ie. no tiles. The whole map will probably be something like 16mb in memory. I'll cut it into slices so I don't waste much pixels in the dead spaces of the map.
Vector lines would be placed manually to provide collision data.
The game would be something like 400*300, perhaps run on the desktop in 2x to get that retro pixel look.

These are the evil cloned henchmen of 'Triax':

Theres more stuff in the open dir, but I plugged some of it before.

These look great!

Although I owned a c64 I never played exile. But looking at what you did so far I think I will enjoy this one.

Unfortunately I haven't got the necessary skills to help you out with the coding.

I hope you'll be able to finish it but looking at your concepts is e joy in it self.

(stay awhile.... stay forever!) wasn't this from the game "impossible mission"?

If it is........ "destroy him my robots"

Just to show there are more nostalgics (geeks) around.

Exile! I wasted so, so many years of my childhood playing that on my amiga. Are you going to redraw the entire map?

If i would be a skilled coder, i definitely would work with you!

Especially i like the first screen - so damn good looking. Its great how much 3dimensionality you got in this.

Also i love those little guys - it would rock to move them through those levels.

So, i never played the original, but i have to play this one ... fuck of doom3, WorldOfWarcraft or something; THIS is what i wanne play!

way cool designs! I would love to throw my code at this but like the other coders you were referring to i have too much on my plate right now :( 1 piece of advice though - BE PICKY!!! You can afford to - your art and design skills are better than top notch, and you should not settle for the first coder you can find. Make them show you something that they've already programmed and talk to them, get a feel for their personality and stuff. It will make a big difference! Good luck with this, and post more art if you have the chance/inclination!

EDIT - ah HA! these remind me of the zemi.net lego bots, in a good way!! more more more!

great concepts, really really impressive, especially the maps, if you are looking for coders to help, why not go to game specific forums. Ie if your gona make the game for lets say unreal tournament 2k3 go to the planetunreal forums ( or a more site more specificly designed to fit that particulairs modding community ) im sure youll be able to snatch up a coder with ease considering the quality of your work. If you need any help finding one just pm me, ill gladly help out.

Aaaaah! After going to that exile website, I finally understand. :D It must be a great game. Looks a bit like one of my old favourites from C64 - "H.E.R.O", that was also set in a cave, theres something cool with caves.
Its really a pity theres so few platform games theese days.
Very cool project and very sweet drawings (as always, one might add) favourite is the yellow suit guy, that guy has some seroius attitude!
Good Luck, Ill be following, and maybe I ge to play it some day :D
