im pretty bad at seeing things in black and white... so ive been using a weird technique and i dont know if its good or bad...

1. flats/base colors

2. covert it to black adn white ( because i can't tell what value it is on my own) paint it

3. put the base colors back on... corrections.. finish..

is it a bad technique or habbit to convert the colors to value because i suck at seeing value? cuz when i try to do it black and white first its pretty hard.

I think it's a great practice. I always add a saturation adjustment layer (or black & white adjustment layer) in photoshop that knocks all the colour out. Put that on and off whenever you want to check your values.

It will also give you an indication of how your art would come out if used (printed) black and white.
