Hmm, interesting. I'm in.
March 21st, 2009, 05:34 AM
Do you think it should contain the letters EOW? like a logo type?
March 22nd, 2009, 02:54 AM
ilook at the CHOW nad COW icons
\chow is a meduisaa
cow is a bunny
March 22nd, 2009, 08:41 AM
Never posted such a small image before. Here is my first idea. Figure it should be something colourful.
March 23rd, 2009, 06:07 PM
will um.. past EOW winners get the icon put on their name once one has been decided upon?
March 23rd, 2009, 06:58 PM
This is interesting challenge and hard, since it isn't a single object, as character and creature activities have, but a complex scene. What would symbolise a scene? What various scenes have in common? Something simple, readable and, better, funny.. I will think about it and I would like to wish you all lucky with getting ideas :)
March 23rd, 2009, 09:47 PM
Here's what I have so far. Talk about trying to distill. :)
March 24th, 2009, 09:01 AM
Earendil - liking that second one! It might be cool to try a version just using the tree against the conceptart beige. More like a single symbol rather than a composition. What u think? I like the stylisation on the tree, it reads very well at the small size :)
I echo ArtZealots's question too, do existing winners get an EOW tag? That would be cool :)
March 24th, 2009, 05:49 PM
thats the idea all you winners should cet recognition for your skill and efforts
althoughI will ask you patience becasue once I get a winner..It will take me a while to installall 111 of them (2 ties)
March 25th, 2009, 05:32 AM
I've actually done pixel art before so yay! First thing that came to mind was a Yggdrasil tree.
*Edit* Since I think Reverie has people a bit busy, I decided to go on the safe side and update at exact size and including transparency.
March 25th, 2009, 09:35 AM
Never done something so small, I hope it reads well.
A window floating on a landscape, to represent indoor and outdoor environments.
March 25th, 2009, 08:56 PM
This seems fun... Are there any limits besides canvas size? Colors, transparency, file size?
Started doodling something up.
The first one was only for practice and is really bad... a house and a tree:
And the second one with transparency... a castle on a cliff:
March 25th, 2009, 09:40 PM
Aphotic Phoenix - Awesome, loving that!!
March 26th, 2009, 05:11 AM
hey guys. ummm.. how do you get transparency on these? or do you simply use the site color?
March 26th, 2009, 06:46 PM
@ Franna, I believe at least some of the icons use site color, but remember that the headers are a different color than the post containers. The .gif format supports transparency however so it's just as easy to use that.
March 27th, 2009, 11:09 AM
PNG also uses opacity.
March 28th, 2009, 04:26 AM
I wanted to share this img, a local cloth-store uses it as ad.
hope this is some inspiration to you!
good luck with the icon!
March 31st, 2009, 08:05 AM
Oh, its not a perfect round shape...
I think also the Terra view from space, that beautiful blue pearl it will be a great enviroment icon (its our enviroment after all)...
March 31st, 2009, 09:55 AM
dark side of the sun
trying a picture
April 1st, 2009, 06:22 PM
a tiny floating island/world thingie.
April 4th, 2009, 06:02 PM
Haha, don't hate me, but it's funny to see how people who are good with painting on larger canvas, struggle with so tiny icon :D
Anyway, I like Eerandil's second icon, because it's very clear. Creating colour samples would be a good idea.
Aphotic Phoenix's icon is the most creative in my opinion, but it's kinda hard to read. What about polishing and creating various samples?
Tetrodotoxin's first icon reads very well and it looks cute, but I would love to see something untypical :)
April 4th, 2009, 07:05 PM
Thanks Tonic, I was wondering if it was readable enough. I'll play around some more and see if I can come up with a version that works a little better.
April 4th, 2009, 08:43 PM
hallo's gets my vote so far, I love it, it's cute, cool, and reads pretty well.
April 5th, 2009, 05:45 PM
April 6th, 2009, 04:54 AM
Uch, I thought I edited my post. I wanted to say I like hallo's icon and the first icon in second post. Cute ideas, but it would be good to remove falling rocks from island and smooth jaggy edges. Suitcase with stickers is a very interesting idea, as it indicates we travel to various areas, and this is exactly what we're doing here. I think EOW label would be easier to read if it wasn't tilted. Maybe enlarging it would make it better. I'm not sure if it's needed, as we can place the "EOW" around EOW icon. Keep working, you're doing fine :)
April 7th, 2009, 07:12 AM
Hey. Nice ideas. My favourite one is that tree by Aphotic Phoenix. I agree with Tonic though. It could be a little bit more readable.
April 7th, 2009, 01:29 PM
aphotic phoenix, your yggdrasil tree is my favourite so far.
i'm straying further and further away from obvious symbols.. this one might indeed be a bit too far fetched :)
April 7th, 2009, 02:35 PM
There's some real cool icons appearing in here.
hallo- you got a lot of neat ideas. I'm leaning toward the first but yeah the falling rocks might be too much. suitcase is awesome but some might not get it...personally I love that idea though and concept. You know if you could slap something on there like a postcard of like a environment or maybe some stickers that really communicates environments you might have a winner there...er... hope that makes sense...
Aphotic Phoenix- another really good one. Pop those colors out some more and maybe make the tree or planet more readable like everyone else is mentioning.
April 7th, 2009, 06:20 PM
i'm straying further and further away from obvious symbols.. this one might indeed be a bit too far fetched :)
Actually, this one really does it for me. It would be nice if the EOW on the flag stood out more, but otherwise it reads well, and gets the idea across nicely.
April 13th, 2009, 06:01 AM
There are very cool ones. I like Aphotic Phoenix, laurghita and hallo's ones :)
April 14th, 2009, 03:26 AM
Another one from a recent study I did. Looks like the paramount logo too much methinks. :bashful: And another version that looks more "badge"-ish.
April 15th, 2009, 08:50 AM
I really like your second one Earendil, I think having a blocked icon isn't really in keeping with the other activity icons, not that it needs to I suppose. I'd give the round one a subtle metal border as though looking through a telescope of some sort, just so it doesn't look too much like a clean hole through the page.
After testing it myself maybe leaving it open is better and more appropriate for the idea of environments.
April 18th, 2009, 07:15 PM
you still with us?
missing you :P
April 27th, 2009, 03:03 AM
Sometimes a basic message is the best way to say something.
I prefer other icons but I think that something like this could be great
April 28th, 2009, 01:25 PM
I like your choice, Nhur, but seeing the others themes icons (:medusachow: chow, etc) I think it must be a form, not square or circle... someone, say me if I'm wrong, i still don't know very much of this page.
April 29th, 2009, 12:16 AM
Okay, my last monitor was unusually contrasty (nothing could really fix this), so after replacing it I've got this looking what it looked like on the old monitor. If anyone has last minute suggestions let me know.
May 1st, 2009, 01:45 AM
Aphotic Phoenix's is badassss, Arthur Two Sheds as well.
May 3rd, 2009, 07:42 AM
The mushroom icon is my new favourite. It's very simple shape as a silhouette so it can be easily recognized.
May 3rd, 2009, 08:46 AM
i think aphotic phoenix has the winner there!
played around abit.
May 3rd, 2009, 11:42 PM
Agreed, I vote for Aphotic Phoenix's icon :)
May 4th, 2009, 09:56 AM
the Aphotic phoenix icon is great but I prefer the arthur two sheds icon (great work)
May 9th, 2009, 08:10 AM
Wow, i couldnt call it between Aphotic Phoenix and Arthur Two Sheds. Both really great icons, AP's is a little more creative and descriptive, ATS' is a little more easily readable...
Who makes the final decision on this?
May 9th, 2009, 08:57 AM
I do. but I will definately go with a general consensus.
Arthur two sheds has a definite grasp of the nessisity for iconic clarity
It's a tough assignment... Keep em coming,
May 9th, 2009, 05:41 PM
Below is the idea i had when i first read the topic, thought id throw it out there. Its indeed an attempt at using the first EOW winning entry by ECS DESIGN as that pyramid makes me instantly think of the activity (normal).
(yup i see now its a bit big :)
May 11th, 2009, 05:50 AM
Arthur two sheds is my fav
May 12th, 2009, 01:50 PM
Here's a little homage to perspective.669334
May 17th, 2009, 07:45 AM
I thought 29 April was the deadline, but it already dropped into May :o
When is the poll so we can vote who's icon is going to be THE EoW Icon?
(I have a hard time choosing between Arthur and Aphotic but I think Arthur is going to be my pick!)
May 17th, 2009, 11:55 PM
haven't seen the perfect one yet. although some are close.. not sure there will be a poll
may just run the best ones by jason and see what he picks.
may just make a unilateral decision
don't want to just settle for ...goood enough
May 18th, 2009, 04:46 PM
uuu. . .
have to try something :geekg:
have to sleep, may continue tomorrow
May 19th, 2009, 12:28 AM
an idea i had, just a little japanese temple or something? chow has the madussa, eow can use the temple? 2nd idea was just the classic mt fuji shot... the japanese were always renoud for their landscapes and bonzai etc so i think their culture is fitting
May 19th, 2009, 04:08 PM
Let's see how this one looks.
May 20th, 2009, 12:56 AM
So, is this one worth pursuing?
May 21st, 2009, 05:24 PM
a little update...
May 25th, 2009, 05:50 AM
Aphotic Phoenix. Word.
GIEF POLL NAU!
May 25th, 2009, 09:54 AM
The Nichols one are cool too :)
I tried too! But I started too big and the little one does not work very much
it's the first icon i made lol
May 27th, 2009, 10:59 AM
what about these?
May 27th, 2009, 12:05 PM
My vote goes for gunnarsson's. That little planet earth is easy to read as an image as well as the text and gets the point across pretty well.
June 27th, 2009, 02:15 AM
Is there an icon yet? Wasn't sure where to look or how to get it added to my name. Still can't believe I actually won one! Hopefully my life will settle down soon and I can get back to painting with you guys!
June 27th, 2009, 11:19 PM
oomgawa ..welcome back
we haven't decided on one yet. once we do I will be ably ro add it to you title. I will work my way back .. may take a while... but yes you did win one
and it was a very nice on etoo if I recall correctly
June 28th, 2009, 03:04 PM
Lets make a poll to decide!
I personally like the idea of a vignette. Trying to make a "scene" with boundaries into an icon seems awkward.
For me it's between the tree and the mushroom. Probably the tree, because th mushroom can also be interpreted as drugs. "Drug of the week" haha...
July 10th, 2009, 08:47 PM
So does anyone have any new icons?
Maybe we should make a cut-off date. 'Cuz if there isn't one, we'll always be waiting for people to put in new ones and we'll never actually get one selected...
November 11th, 2009, 03:14 PM
you know hmmmm....lets see what Ican do....
November 11th, 2009, 03:22 PM
ok I've snagged the ones I think could work..
Iwill put up a poll
but I confess there is one Im leaning towards
and ultimately, I get to pick..
November 11th, 2009, 04:03 PM
That was super hard choice. I voted for Tesla's "Sun behind mountain" icon. It's pretty simple so it might communicate clearly.
November 12th, 2009, 07:03 AM
No Contest, it has to be the little world wrapped in the tree.
Well it got my vote anyway.
November 12th, 2009, 06:15 PM
I agree with Gaius, the globe in the tree is genius. Says everything, and looks damn cool :)
November 13th, 2009, 12:39 AM
looks like a winner to me as well!
November 24th, 2009, 06:29 AM
We have a winner!
November 25th, 2009, 01:39 AM
sorry a mushroom doesnt exactly scream "environment"
The winner is in fact the one I wanted to use anyway ... I will speak with davi about how I proceed from here
April 20th, 2010, 09:46 AM
not really there's been tech issues back stage... we have an icon, I just need to tally up the winners and get them in place. If you want to see what it looks like in local. Yoitisi has placed his (he is also an admin, which is what is required to get them in place.
I am currently in tech week, which means , for those of you who don't know theater, that I am putting in 18 hour days, Im lucky if I can find time to eat and bathe.
I intend to start rolling these into place next week
