Stumbled upon this page today, in my usual rambling way of traversing wikipedia until i find something interresting.
http://blog.adlo.es/swipe_of_the_week/2006/08/
Essentially its a blog that chronicles similar images in comics, mostly dc , image and marvel, offering them up side by side for comparison.
many images can probably be written of as iconic posing that is used a lot in superhero comics and even tied to specific characters, but browsing this page and leafing through earlier and later postings on this blog, I have to wonder to what extent the practise of what looks like direct copying of images is an accepted part of comics like this? I mean, referencing earlier works of the same character is one thing, but looking at 3 different images of sbretooth in the above page, it looks more like copying than referencing.
I have no idea, but since there are quite a few professionals in CA, it would be interresting to hear your view on this. To a layman it definitely looks like there is a certain amount of recycling going on, not just general referncing but exact poses and faces.
Not looking to hang anyone out, just interrested on what the people who are actually in the industry think about this?
Regards, Mimer.
