Hey I'm new here and I've just started getting into drawing portraits.
I suck. So I was wondering how to get better... Start by drawing specific things, ( eyes ears nose etc) or should I just keep trying to do the entire portrait? Thanks for any help you can give me!

I'm not great at portraits, but I did start feeling much more comfortable drawing people once I had better understanding of the underlying bone and muscle structure of the face. Kind of primed my brain to look for variations such as how square the jaw is, how prominent the cheekbones, etc.

I doubt there's a right way or a wrong way but for me, I draw the whole lot. It's the spatial depiction of the subject and the relationship between the features that tends to define the face more than the detail of the individual elements. Having said that, there's nothing to stop you doing both but I would advise you not to focus too much on detail, at least in the early stages.
