pixels all over

Can anyone tell me why I get pixels all over the place when painting in painter 8? It happens mostly when I use the knife and after I have a fair amount of paint on the canvas. It goes away if I click the undo button, but after a while I end up undoing a lot of the strokes I've already put in just to get rid of all the pixels, then I have to redo the strokes creating more pixels. It's like I'm doing 1 step foreward and 2 steps back. Dang nuisance and it's taking forever to paint my picture. Plus it's hard to see what you're doing if there are a bunch of pixels under your knife! Thanks in advance.

"the knife" doesn't tell us much.

What brush category and what brush variant specifically?

Have you made any setting adjustments to the brush variant?

What's your platform and OS version?

Have you installed the Painter 8.1 patch?

If so, on the splash screen, in the small text at the bottom, does it say 8.1? Also, do you have Custom Palettes? That would tell us if you installed the Painter 8.1 successfully.

An example image would also be helpful.

Hi Jin, I have painter 8. I use the loaded palette knife, usually as small as I can get it. But it doesn't seem to matter which knife it use, it does the same thing. I did use the brush creator, but I set everything back to default afterwards. I think it has something to do with switching between the brushes and palette knife. It gets worse if I try to use the palette knife over filled areas or brushed areas. I don't know what you mean by platform and OS version. I'm guessing that platform might mean windows? If it is, it's xp office professional. I don't think it would do any good to upload the picture as it seems to go away once I've saved, then bring it back up again. It's just a nuisance when I'm painting. I haven't installed any patches, bit of phobia against them, in the past when I installed them, my computer would start crashing all the time. So I don't usually do it unless I have a lot of problems with something. Thanks

Sounds like your "jitter" is cranked to high.

Hi,

If the problem goes away when you save the file and reopen it, it might simply be a display problem.

Try refreshing the image by double clicking the Magnifier tool, or minimize, then maximize your image and see if that does the trick.

Also, try working with other programs closed.

Hi,

Jitter is adjusted in the Brush Creator's Random section.

Do some testing to see how it affects your brushstrokes.

Depending on the brush category and brush variant you begin with, the effect will vary. Sometimes it will produce splattered brush dabs.
