I did this for the DSG yesterday, and I like it so I want to color it, but I am totally stumped as for colors. I want the creature to be blackish and the pulsing veins coming from the stab wounds to be red and black, but I don't know about the rest. I was thinking about an organic crab shell type color, but I just don't know.
feel free to crit the design too.

And is there some way to get the texture of rough crab shell without doing it by hand. I have Painter and Photoshop, so suggestions for both work.
btw I suck at coloring so don't expect anything good to come out of this.

As for choosing colours, just do a bunch of quick sketches. It's all on computer so it's easy to block the picture out with colours...look @ my WIP thread for an example.

Can't help you with the textures though....I don't know anything myself. ^_^

Sketch looks good. If you want to use black for the creature, you can use varying purples for shading and highlights. Or you can go with varying shades from black to grey.
As for texture I do it the old fashioned way. I'd probably start with a dark base coat, roughly put a lighter one or different colored one over that, then another rough lighter color or different color again. But all in the same spectrum, say dark brown, orange and yellow or something. Then I would go back in and pick out areas to shade and highlight. As for tricks in painter or photoshop, I haven't a clue. I suppose most people here would do it with layers.

i think the picture is looking good as for color if you go with red and black i say go with the complementing color green in could work out cool but most important of all just play with colors or use a photo for color
keep up the good work:)

Thnx for the help guys. I especially like that idea for shaidng the creature in purple shades. Maybe add a reddish tinge in there. That would really make it fit in with what I had envisioned. Thnx again. I'll try to get on coloring it as fast as I can.
