Need Help with fantasy characters for scene

Hi,
Im working on making a fantasy scene in a forest where several characters are playing insturments. Currently I have a Gnome and Dwarf below. But I have some problems with my sketches so far.

First with the Gnome. I don't like how his legs and feet are. The pants aren't medieval looking, and his foot doesn't lay right. Im also having problems trying to draw some decent looking old boots.

Second, the Dwarf. Im having problem with deciding how the boots should look on him as well. I also am having problems with the left hand. I think it came out decent, but I don't know if I should redo it to make his hand position more as though he is playing chords.. At the moment he is basically just muting all the strings =)

What I would do would be to finish that then draw it over but try not to make the same mistakes.

The Gnome looks good except for his head doesn't seem no be looking at what he is playing.
