Theme

Our characters are making their way through the Sony Desert towards the Thunderdome. Each character has suffered extensive damage throughout their fighting careers. The damaged parts have been replaced, as needed, with a bit'o'tech. To ease the trip across the terrain each character has a 'means' of transport.

Stlye

Any.

Media

Any.

Stuff

-multiple views. one full pose, several details.
-the full pose must be colored.

Oooh! So Are there like giant speaker instead of rocks? And TVs and stuff? Since it is the Sony Desert.... Maybe some laptops doing a mating dance or something. Hehheh. Good luck to both of you. ;p

josephrey
December 12th, 2003, 08:30 PM
heh, thanks.

i was thinking more along the lines of what was once a living environment was sucked dry by Sony when they came out with their wooden stereos.

Carnifex
December 13th, 2003, 07:41 AM
hehe...yeah,big sony:D
so the thing with the transport is settled?
i mean it would make a nice adding, but i wouldn't crave it necessary.a thunderdome character should be able to survive a few things also without means of transport-he has to be the toughest.
yeah...how many detail shots should be shown?

...
otherwise,i couldn't have said it better.:)

josephrey
December 14th, 2003, 10:44 AM
as many different shots as you want. it could be your character's weapon, or even a tender moment of him/her reading a letter from mom with a tear in their eye. "everyone's doing fine, honey. dad fell off the roof again today. we know you can do it!"

as far as the 'transport,' i'm currently feeling ambitious.

Carnifex
December 14th, 2003, 11:47 AM
ok,then.
i assume your transport's gonna be a mechanical device?:)
oh yeah,if you wanna check you competition once again, look at my site(sig).:)
i'm looking forward to this.

josephrey
December 14th, 2003, 02:49 PM

josephrey
December 16th, 2003, 01:51 PM
when's the deadline? feb 10th pops into mind for some reason.

i've been doing other things so i haven't even started doodling yet for this.

hmmm, i think i can make it to austria. i'll pedal over from spain. europe's kinda small, right? it's like a ride across new jersey or something.

Carnifex

i like how you have the machinery coming out of his flesh carnifex. try working on the joints a bit more.. do like a google image search for machinery and joints or whatnot. it would help

Want a really good, but hard to understand tutorial?

http://www.saunderscreative.com/

Under resources->tutorials you'll find a six page indepth tutorial on everything you ever wanted to know about metal. Page 4-6 especially help tremendously with shiny stuff. I didn't get much of what was written though, it appears to be written mainly for experienced artists.

Nice site too.
You two guys keep rocking, and Carnifex, better start working :)

thanx, seems to be pretty good.finally i have spare time so i can get into it really:)

i relaxed the last days(which means i didn't do much for this contest),so here are just some small sketches on what i might do.personally i like the idea with the mask.
http://www.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/tdconcept1.jpg
gotta start working properly!:bash:

Carnifex
December 28th, 2003, 02:24 PM
always pondering about design....think it settles though...
http://www.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/tdconcept2.jpg
means of transport?think so.i like it.
http://www.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/tdconcept3.jpg
at the same time pondering about where to put the metal pieces, the whole arm metallic makes me feel the character is "overdesigned" when added to the creature.

garrr!must get serious!i'm wasting my time with things like these: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15871

how about you,josephrey?

josephrey
January 10th, 2004, 12:44 PM
i'm always wasting time.

josephrey
January 22nd, 2004, 04:11 PM
hmmm, the replacement parts don't really need to be metal. they could be more organic.

do you still want to take the transport on?

Carnifex
January 22nd, 2004, 04:29 PM
in how far more organic?what could be used instead?
i don't need the transport really.the more i think about it,the less i want to have to draw it.hm...
let's leave it.
already started one final piece?

josephrey
January 24th, 2004, 02:18 AM
ok, transport is very optional. :)

i meant more organic for you, if you don't like to do techy stuff.

Carnifex
January 24th, 2004, 06:42 AM
nah...it's alright,i've already settled on the design of the mechanical arm pretty much.
good,i'll leave out the transport.
damn,gotta start!

Carnifex
February 5th, 2004, 03:30 PM
alright, finally i've gotten into work seriously(more or less,no holidays yet).
sketch for the coloured illo piece.
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/thunderdome_start.jpg
the left arm is the metal one.
the size kills some details,sorry.
how 'bout you josephrey?

josephrey
February 5th, 2004, 06:29 PM
whoa, cool. what's he hanging onto? reminds me of a dream i had the other day. is it a vertical tether to the moon?!

i've been driving cross country for the last month and just got in last night. i got a few doodles done while i was gone, but have to sit down tonight and do some serious work. can't believe it's the 4th already!

i'll scan some stuff tomorrows.

Carnifex
February 6th, 2004, 05:04 AM
in fact i want it to be(or to get) a giant sandworm or something, some animal on which he slides down.it's not big enough to reach to the moon though;)
i'm waiting what you got.see ya.

josephrey
February 6th, 2004, 03:31 PM
i have no idea how to apply these in any sort of whole submission, or even if i'll expand upon their possiblities.

this is kinda a fighting stance. that, or he's dancing. can't really distinguish. :)

February 7th, 2004, 01:34 PM
boah.i've gotta hang on.today and yesterday i had no time coz i was at a ball and slept until 1/2 5 today.good work.

josephrey
February 7th, 2004, 03:54 PM
bah....you and your balls. they're always slowing you down. ;)

Carnifex
February 8th, 2004, 03:51 AM
yeah i know
hopefully i will have time today as i already got up at 9:00,but it's moreover a question of willpower.:D

Carnifex
February 8th, 2004, 06:22 AM
aight...i'm lacking patience so i quickly finished that illo in a not-going-to-be-in-contest way.
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/td_illo_speed.jpg
i'll be starting completely new on it,probably gonna change the viewpoint and scene too.
alongside i made this quick sketches(again no patience),pondering further on the character.
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/td_speed.jpg

and finally, one finished piece, although not the main(and most worked out) one, showing what weapons our brave hero uses in battle.
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/thunderdome_weapons.jpg
he comes from a pretty tough culture with bloody rituals and not-so-skilled metal workers,so his armor is full of twisted spikes and stuff, like hot plumb plunged into water.
now on to the character illos and final coloured piece.gotta ponder still.

Carnifex
February 8th, 2004, 03:44 PM
ok,another update, probably the last one for today.
the basic character model(maybe suited for 3d also?).
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/thunderdome_character_model.jpg
armor will be added later in photoshop and maybe some colour too.i don't like the front view too much compared to the side view.something feels a bit wrong.
only thing missing then is the coloured illo.
just tomorrow left.gotta work fast.i really enjoy this battle.it's the right motivation for me to draw and develop seriously.
how about you,josephrey?

josephrey
February 9th, 2004, 11:51 AM
crap, yeah.

it's good for me to push beyond just the sketch stage.

josephrey
February 9th, 2004, 11:53 AM
but i forgot about a weapon. now i have to do more drawing!

crapper.

Carnifex
February 9th, 2004, 02:18 PM
ok,i'm not too happy with this one(front view),but atleast the character design sheet is finished.painted directly over it in photoshop.
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/fisite/thunderdome_character_full.jpg
maybe i'll colour it too if i have the time(and will),but i doubt it.
hopefully the deadline ends tomorrow midnight, otherwise i might have trouble finishing everything in time.i suppose it's that way, right?
anyway,on to the last pic.
oh yeah,he might have a sort of backpack with weapons and stuff, which he or some animal carries, but i didn't include that now.

josephrey
February 9th, 2004, 02:38 PM

Carnifex
February 9th, 2004, 06:07 PM
yep, they're fleshed out in a good way.maybe make them a bit bigger.
anyway, here's my final illustration piece in b&w.i'll colour it tomorrow, aswell as rework the character pieces with the armour.they don't please me.
http://www.renderosity.com/photos/ArtistArticle6940.jpg
this one may look a bit "dirty",but what the hell,it's the desert!:D

edit: i just noticed your character must clinically be dead, josephrey,he has no heart.
also he has no balls.poor fella:p
*pushing the fight*

Carnifex
February 10th, 2004, 04:26 PM

only to check the rules one last time:
the character is travelling through the desert to the td arena, body parts have been damaged and replaced with biomechanics.
medium and style:any
requirements:
full body shot(or illustration)
character pics
details
edit:sketches(optional)

am i right or is there anything i missed(if i did i won't have time to correct that either way)?
you post our pictures,ok?good luck.

josephrey

heh, whatever.

i think we're supposed to post here anyways:

this is a first stab at coloring with a computer and it was pretty rough. many thanks to Devilbunny and Spider Monkey for not lashing out at my retardicity on coloring in photoshop and showing me a few of their secret tricks. (i totally gave up on the background- i'll try it again later.)

here's Star, my thunderdome 7 dude:

Star is an active participant in the Ginder Fighting Circuit venued in all of the fortress towns surrounding the Sony Desert. he's been around a little while and has had more than a few replacement parts added as limbs are lost in serious matches.
