Rumor has it that Bill Watterson is animating Calvin & Hobbes himself with several animators as a personal project.

Garfield never had much going for it. If you've been bored by one, you've been bored by them all. Calvin & Hobbes however is a real display of tallent.
Garfield would be much funnier if John would slap him around a little.

I honestly dont know how the hell they are going to keep the audience entertained for a whole movie about garfield...Hell the comic strips couldn't hold my intrest for long. Although the CG on the site isn't all that bad (couldnt see the trailer, im at work and i can't install quicktime)
on the Calvin and Hobbes though i think that is going to be awesome. I've loved every strip and I'm acutally surprised there hasn't been an animated series yet.

Does anyone remember that short farside animation Gary Larson made for TV? I can't find it anywhere. I was too young to remember it too well but I'm addicted to them now. Farside was dry sadistic humor even before dry sadistic humor was funny.

Garfield should never be compared to Calvin and Hobbes. One of them was brilliant and beautiful beyond compare. The other is dull and lame and pointless.
I see this movie going straight to video.
The news about an animated Calvin and Hobbes makes me giddy though.:clapping2 :jump2: :chug:

wow. horrid. but garfield hasn't been original for decades anyway.... it's a money-machine.
I read somewhere that Bill Watterson doesn't want to give Calvin a voice, because it would ruin the individual perceptions that people have of the character... which I think is pretty valid. Although, this is a few years ago, so maybe he's changed his tune.

yeah, there's a guy in my animation forum who works at Rhythm & Hues studios and worked on Garfield; none of us like the trailer but he's defending Garfield with his life...
I always thought of Garfield as a slow, lazy cat who didn't care aout the stuff around him, but he's animated here as a fast, skittery thing...ugh.

Rumor has it that Bill Watterson is animating Calvin & Hobbes himself with several animators as a personal project.
Sadly, this is just a rumor that refuses to die. Right now he's just enjoying being retired.
Here is a recent article on Mr. Waterson. It talks about what he's up to and how he feels about those damn Calvin stickers pissing on a car logos: (see link for full story)
"...Just as Watterson was, Mallett is against rampant licensing of characters so that they appear on everything from calendars to underwear. Unlike Watterson, he believes some selective marketing may actually be helpful. "Because now look what we're left with: Calvin pissing on a Ford logo."
But Watterson apparently has no immediate plans to bring Calvin back. In fact, it seems that he has no immediate plans to do much of anything. He lives a quiet life in Chagrin Falls. He paints landscapes with his father in the woods, but produces nothing for those who once embraced his comic strip. He won't do conventions anymore. He won't sign autographs. And he certainly won't sit for interviews. (He cleared Salem to answer questions for this article, but refused to do so himself.) He is content simply being Ohio's most famous recluse, our own J.D. Salinger..."
