I'm learning how to generate texture maps in Zbrush does anyone have any suggestions? I want to give it a little vegitation and sky/lighting etc in Maya. I know the color of it is poopy right now but i just threw something on cause I hate the default gray while modeling.

well I've started to work with it in zbrush but I'm still not confident in the uv mapping process and I'm not having much luck trying to figure it out. maybe I should start from scratch and model each major shape as it's own object. when i get this figured out i'll try to make the rocks have more similar surface qualities as are in the sketch. any suggestions/advice...anyone?? I feel like I'm talking to myself...

there is a ton of overlapping in the areas that are vertical I don't know how to go about this. And also , here's the source of my inspiration(DaVinci) If I start over I'll make it a more serious study and go for the same proportions/scale.

Mitchello,
This is looking nice! Very cool...I love environmental modeling. When creating 3D landscape I usually sculpt the forms by translating the verts along the Z axis only. This way when you create a UV map projected from your top viewport all the verts are evenly spaced in a grid and ready for painting. In 3D studio max using texporter you can output a large UV map to photoshop and then custom paint that map with seamless environmental textures.
Not sure how things work in ZBrush and this apprroach might be a little older and geared towards game levels but it works for me.
If you need some environment textures I have a number posted on my site for free download. www.pangea3d.com
Keep up the good work and post an update =)

alright i finally untangled the mess of uvs. I've learned my lesson for next time...take care of the uvs EARLY before you go and make it hard for yourself. I'm still working on the foliage, and such. crits/suggestions always appreciated. also i know this render is kinda pixelated i'll update soon...but for now it's finals week and I'm super busy.

ya not to bad, i would defenitly go with some reference for those textures. Maybe tone down some of those greens, almost not natural colors for nature. but yes final week i do understand :D
