Kingdom VS Kingdom

*****
The artists have to design an empire/kingdom. It doesn't matter what kind of kingdom.
It can be anything from a science fiction empire to a fantasy
realm.
The two kingdoms don't have anything to do with each other.

*****
Both artists have to produce: One Full color illustration showing some part of that kingdom with a few
citizens.
One concept of a building/enviroment.
2-4 illustrations/concepts of enviroments/vehicles/creatures from kingdom
*****
The more coherent, convincing kingdom wins.

*****
Any media can be used BUT:
- at least one piece has to be painted digitally.
- at least one piece has to be painted traditionally.

You are all the way in?

I over-analize things? That's going to cost you! :evilbat:

Ok!
If that doesn't discourage you I'll post concepts of "Kingdoms I Won't Do" as teasers.

One each week maybe!? Two altogether?
If this scares you I'll post them in my sketchbook thread
(because I'm a nice guy)

If you want to we can both do them. We can take turns.
You start by posting your then it's my turn and so on ...
what do you think?

hahaha

sure, post concepts of different kingdoms here.

idon't got to much time today nor tommorow , but i will try to post something.

at the begining i was thinking about sunny-futuristic kingdom, but i think i will do snowy-cold-deppresing kingdom.

Don't wait for any turns, the more good pics we post the better.

Ouch crap! Good one oDD! I have to admit that.
You mean final concept for a kingdom you won't do or is that what you will go for eventually?

This is a kingdom I won't do. First idea I had.
Yeah reminds me of the Zerg from Starcraft and of Starship Troopers.

"Kingdom I won't do" - #1

Pencil and Gimp

Here is what the human scientists found out about this species:
Translucent Alien Kingdom

The kingdom of these creatures is an organic organism.
It has organs like hearts and it has roots.
It grows and spawns creatures.
Closer to the core the solidity increases.
We don't know much about the core yet.
The roots go deeper. The hearts are stronger there.
It is not translucent at all.
And the structure is more interesting / daunting.

In the image we see a part where the kingdom currently ends.
These areas are more vulnerable and simpler.
As these areas age they get more solid and they develop.

There are different kinds of creatures.
Warriors for example, but also workers.
They are connected to the kingdom until they are born.
All of them are loyal a hundred percent.
They go through several stages during their life.

There are almost no patterns in the kingdom.
It constantly comes up with new inventions and structures.
We can't be sure of anything.
Our guess is that there is a brain somewhere.

hymm interesting, i will do a very typical kingdom.

er i still don't know how the final concept will look. Just painting some ideas i hav in my head. Still no ref, I will have to look at some cities and decide what style i'm aiming at. The thing i know i want it to be cold/depresing, maybe ruled by some diktator (sp!) or something, I want it to have futuristic elemnts.... I dont decided yet...

I think I'll eventually do a more typical kingdom as well.
Because it has to be convincing.
I try to be creative now though.

Yours is great!
I have to try to catch up as far as rendering goes.
The posted images are visualisation practice (without reference obviously)
I hope they are a little moody.

Expect some rendering studies soon.

"Kingdom I won't do" - #2
Young Vampire Kingdom

This kingdom is a village that an army of vampires turned into one.
The houses were made vampire friendly. Windows were barricaded for example.

And they keep cattle to feed on. They have to be careful during the day.
Occasionally groups of human people attack the village and try to burn houses and kill vampires.
At night they hunt though, to feed on humans that are careless.
That way they increase in numbers and make plans for attacks on the next village.

Dumb architects kingdom

Not sure what to say.

Judging from the architecture they are not the brightest species possible.

Damn again. That actually rocks.
But I'm not screwed yet.
Do I see some perspective issues? :p ;)
Sorry: no image.

But obviously you don't see the potential in the kingdoms. Just the images!

I'll pull all the stops to win this duel! I hope it's enough.
This means that I won't do a typical kingdom.
It will be something more daring. Study, study ... have to study!

Btw are animated gifs allowed?
To show how they walk, work and stab people.

Wow ... I don't want that kind of advantage.
You'd never know what hit you ...

Thanks for the links

i like the last pic, the thing that realy bothers me are the way you painted those trees in the back, why are you making those spirals.

i promise to post more in future. I can see clearly the more i think about the kingdom the more it looks like my home city :/ anyway got to make some futuristic elements ( i already got some ideas)

The next thing I'll post will probably be something with more details.
Or a more complex concept.

The trees in the last one looked ok as small thumbnail in opencanvas.
That was what I tried. Simplifying.
If I'd try to get the details right too it would take forever.
I have to make more studies than it will be easier for me.

Right now I'm printing stuff like crazy. Then I'll create worldz.

Yours are great. Is your home city really that depressing?
;)
It's amazing how you capture emotions in the images.
I guess I don't have to mention the textures.
I'm looking forward to the futuristic elements. I loved the DSG concepts.

But wait! I'm not here as a fan. So I'll stop right here!!!

Should have known I'd be too depressed to draw something decent for weeks.

Here are some uninspired images I drew in 15 minutes ...

I guess they qualify as traditional.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be careful.

I had the opportunity to paint with acrylics in school.
But back then art didn't interest me at all.

Connected Islands kingdom

Not convincing I know. Just supposed to look pretty.
They might if they were colored ... and ... well .... better!

Just doodling without worrying about messing things up helped.
At some point an idea suddenly hit me:
I decided that I can use textures too for a change :emb:

Looking forward to your image!
But I'm also kinda scared ...

Found another site with reference for environments.
I like the colors:

I'm kinda afraid of the deadline now.
I think today I'll say what my kingdom will be.

Then I'll make studies and rough sketches for the concepts.

I'll edit this post to add stuff.
Just need to write this that I HAVE TO do something today (more or less)

Damn. There are reasons why I didn't post until now.
And its not just because I did other things.

I made a study but I had to wait for permission to post it!
Thanks to LacrimaStock (http://lacrimastock.deviantart.com/) for allowing me to post it! :)

I am happy with my ideas but not with the concepts so far.
It'll be a futuristic empire with colonies on many planets.
Not sure how humanoid the characters will be.

Expect science fiction stuff.
I'll try to make an image with skyscrapers and futuristic trains work ;)

Hey oDD:

How did you get those textures under/within your strokes on your first post? and were you using photoshop? I have been looking for a way to give my paintings more life, any info will be appreciated. Thanks

Signature, Odd, you have two different approach to create the atmosphere of your kingdom. Odd's world is mysterious, dark. Sig's world is technologic and fresh.
I like both. :chug:

The reason why I give up can't be seen in this thread.
It was stuff at Sijun, Eatpoo and in real life.

I'd love to bite ... I just can't right now.

Btw ...
Balthazar
oDD posted in that thread:

and not sure how to get the texture in the early steps.
