Starting oil painting, coming from acrylics.

I work primarily with Liquitex Acrylic. I would like to try oil painting. I have ordered these to get started:

Drying Linseed Oil

Liquin Original 250ml

Winsor & Newton Artists' Oils 200ml Tube Cadmium Red

Winsor & Newton Artists' Oils 200ml Tube Ivory Black

Winsor & Newton Artists' Oils 200ml Tube Titanium White

Winsor & Newton Artists' Oils 200ml Tube Yellow Ochre

Winsor & Newton Aerosol Varnishes Gloss 400ml

Sansodor 500ml

Monarch Filbert Size 0

Do you have any suggestions on the best cause of action for someone starting out oil painting?

Also what problems may I face transferring what I learned with acrylics?

As for tutorials, I have both DVD's by Massive Black which cover oil painting.

To be honest I have tried oils before, but not for long! I want to try and make a proper go at it. Mr Santos DVD was so informative and inspirational I have to give it a shot!

I will post my paintings in this thread when I begin painting.

Hi again,

I had to wait until these were touch dry before posting.

1: 210mm x 297mm, portrait of my niece. This took too long.

2:210mm x 297mm, self-portrait. I am quite happy with this one, resembles my acrylic techniques.

3: 210mm x 297mm, portrait of my niece. Another attempt at my niece. I think this one works better but is still flawed.

4: a little off 20mm x 30mm, Russian Master copy of this. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Isaac_Levitan_selfportrait1880.jpg)

Any advice would be great! Check out my Expressions in Darkness for insight into my acrylic technique.

I like the fluidity, and the looseness of these paintings. Nice to see some looser stuff here. People here seem hesitant to get loose. Really nice job.
In terms of what to expect with oils, although you have probably already gathered this from your experience with these paintings:
Drying time =much easier blending than acrylics,
over-blending can lead to muddiness: Using 2, or 3 colors when mixing a specific color keeps life simple
Cleanup sucks with oils, as you know I'm sure...
This is why I prefer acrylics!

Rist, lookin good I would also suggest Shawn Barbers vid on foundational oil painting as well. Lots of interesting stuff going on. imo your palette could use a bit more saturation but I'm not hatin on the results, non atall
