I know it was several years ago. I must have been under a rock or something.

http://www.keithparkinson.com/gallery.php?icid=1&nextid=35 I was vaguely aware of his work but didn't know he was dead, nor appreciated how prolific he'd been in his woefully curtailed life. What a sad loss to the art world. Many of his paintings I knew of but didn't know they were his. His work was more subtle, sophisticated and invested with emotion and thought than a lot of fantasy stuff I've seen. Definitely a standard to aspire to and an incentive to get on with it, as you never know what's around the corner.

Wow I didn't know this but he did the covers for some of my favourite fantasy books of all time. The Tangle Box was an amazing book, and cover. And The Hidden City, and the Druid of Shannara! And the Talismans of Shannara! Oh my god, fangirl moment. They were the iconic covers of my childhood, and definitely what made me want to become an illustrator in the first place.

What a loss.

Your name is "RyerOrdStar" on an illustration site, and you just realized Parkinson passed away???? How odd.

But yeah, always been a big fan. I wrote to him about 10 years ago and he was kind enough to send me a nice sketch he used in a painting and wrote back answering some painting questions. Now that's a nice guy. RIP, Keith.

I have a very bad memory. I can never recognize names, only images. Besides, Ryer Ord Star is a construct of the writer, not the artist who did the cover. And appreciating an image or a book does not mean that I have to follow the artist's life.

I remember being very sad when I found out he had died, in high school I had a calendar of Keith Parkinson art that I had cut all the paintings out of and stuck on my walls.
Nerd? Only a little bit. :)

Sorry, Ryer... Just thought it was kind of humorous. Didn't mean any disrespect per se.
