DESCRIPTION

Pretty much exactly as it says. A female Sith Lord for the Star Wars universe (read: the movies).

Pretty open, but a description is required. Just one or two lines is fine.

Gynemeth78: The finals thread is usually posted a bit later on in the week (around thursday/friday/saturday). The deadline for rounds usually has some leeway because of all the different timezones people are in, but Daestwen is usually pretty regular with putting up the poll. New rounds are always posted on sunday, before the old rounds closes. Hope that helps you :)

edit: No, it must have been because no one in the empire in the movies (at least the original trilogy) is anything other than human, except when they call the bounty hunters in, and they don't really belong to the empire, per say...Darth Maul was Sidious' initial apprentice in the movies (it would be unreasonable I think to limit the conceptual range to Episodes IV - VI, since iirc the Sith were not mentioned in the initial trilogy) and while humanoid was definitely not of the standard human stamp.

I havn' read (or played) Force Unleashed but isn't that based on some secret apprentice of Darth Vader? Anyway, was thinking of having mine in the old republic era (when there were tons of Sith). Oh btw, the Rule of Two book is awesome! :)

To "easily" fit into the movies it seems that a female incarnation of Sidious or Vader is kind of what's expected, and that sounds limiting in terms of character depth.

...Anyway, was thinking of having mine in the old republic era (when there were tons of Sith). But doing so would go outside the movies' universe, which is kind of the point I'm trying to make, that there is a huge pool of characterization options outside the movies that could make the effort a great deal more interesting, but we can't really tap into it?

Just have fun with it guys. Don't get to close to the ins and outs of the finer details of the movies. :) Just think of how you might see/interpret the portrayal of a Sith Lady in the context of the films. For example look, if you can find them online, at the images Ian McCaig painted for Attack of the Clones. He did a number of female Sith concepts that didn't make it into the movies. They don't have to be humanoid either, but try and bring a depth of character to them. I'd love to do this, but I'm not going to have time.

Personally I want to see Darth Vader queueing for lasagne in the Death Star canteen! (No, not really!)

Seeing it is movie era, thinking Sith Sorceress type. Specialized in hiding her presence, hence why not slain by Sidius yet. Works as a bounty hunter, and leaves no survivors or witnesses when using force powers. Also very skilled with a gun. I will add one to her belt I think :)

Anyhoot, this is my Sith idea. Double bladed Stealthy Assassin trained to do all the dirty work when Sidious was still in the senate. Extremely potent in clouding her force presence, so most of her missions were Jedi assassinations.

Some lose various body parts in battle and have them replaced by synthetics (Vader). I guess that outside the movie universe, the effects of the Dark Side can eventually corrupt your appearance, but it isn't something that happens overnight ("Hmm, think I'll turn to the Dark Side..." WHAM, you're ugly! ;) )

Well, I decided to suck it up and enter, for a variety of reasons, but Female Sith is just too cool to be a mere observer.

Speaking of hair, I decided to keep my Sith Lady's soft locks, as a juxtaposition to her dark nature... beauty can be deadly, too.

Added her tattoos, though, as this is something you can almost not do without. Well, ok, you CAN do without, but they're cool to draw.

Added the lightning and changed the direction of the cape, hope that helped the comp some.

grenogs - I have to disagree about adding more to the bar scene. Remember, this is CHOW and we are aiming at showing character - which according to the brief this is an evil sith lord, one of the super powerful and totally villainous antagonists for the entire Star Wars universe (if you are not familiar with them, check the wookiepedia or wikipedia entries). As it stands, I get sad twi'lek from your image, and adding more to the scene will push you further from what I think is required here. I would say you need a new, evil direction to meet the brief.

Espenboi - Made me think of thundercats but I love the weapon ^^ and for how cool the rest of the body is, I'd love to see the feet more correct.
Tetrodotoxin - I love the energy that envelope sketch has, can't wait to see it taken further.
Nerahla - I'm glad you chose to keep the hair, I think it will look awesome framing that strong bold face.
grenogs - The added arm adds so much to the composition, keep working on that face (it could still be a "bit" more feminine) and this will be one of my favs, I like your style :) <edit> I do agree with Jessibean though...it could be more evil.

thanks jessibean, and hawk , i see what your saying, i guess i was trying to give it a little spin, by giving it a little humour and some emotional character by trying to show the other side of the character, afterall this weeks chow doesnt actually ask for an evil character. Are powerfull people always evil? also if she is evil then why is she so evil?, yes sure its part of her job description, but hey if you had to be evil all the time in public, wouldnt that get really depressing, no friends, nobody to talk to, which could then drive a person to drink.

i blame posh, sorry posh ;) but your statement : Personally I want to see Darth Vader queueing for lasagne in the Death Star canteen! (No, not really!) i know you didnt mean this literally, but it defenatly influence my approach for this weeks chow :)

just a quick sketch. just wanted to focus on the expression, pose and attitude. not going for an evil, angry look...I wanted something along the lines of confident, detachment...about ready to battle some lower life form.

joiton - Nice silhouettes, I don't know which one I like best but I'm drawn to the second one (top row with the tattoos) for some reason...

grenogs - I totally get that, but it is a Sith Lord so something should give the character that air. "they draw upon strong emotions, both negative and positive, as the source of their power, and care only about themselves" I think if she was depressed being alone, that might easily turn into annoyance - maybe she's annoyed because no else is as depressed as she is or something... ;) But as a Sith Lord I think something should indicate a sense of "power", so even if you keep the depressed pose as is, you could show a flash of emotion, annoyance for example in her eyes that would indicate to us that she's not completely vulnerable.

Or you could go more humorous and just push the depression to the extreme ;) I have a feeling that a Sith Lord would never just feel "a little" depressed.

First timer! Hope to learn a lot from you guys. A lot of great stuff already. Here are some rough sketches. Posh said to have fun with this, so after sketching some of the usual sexy wimminz poses, I thought an Ewok Sith Lord would be unique. Right now I'm going to decide whether to go for spoofy, or evil. Both have potential. An Ewok with oversized cape or something would be hilarious, but a seriously badass Ewok from hell sounds cool.

trevor I don't know, I am going to be the odd one out and say I'm def not into this composition. Looking at the piece abstractly, the large white space on top feels really heavy and press down on the image as a whole. This downward slide feels reinforced by the diagonal motion created by the (slightly) disorienting diagonals that are only in the bottom half of the image. The final pushes to the overall slide are the white line in the right followed by the final yank by the big black shape in the lower left. Basically what I am getting is only downward motion from the image. Your work is awesome man. I am always impressed by what you produce.

Nerahla It is a good start and my only suggestion is to lightly sketch in the legs so you don't lose her anatomy under the skirt.

MrAnimation I really wouldn't miss it if you did not include any obvious way of carrying around all the lightsabers. I don't really question where she puts them when she isn't mangling jedi with them.

Espenboi Her legs feel really long.

PianoForte Welcome back. Her right arm looks to straight. I think she should have more muscle definition (not necessarily buff) to really get a feel of the anatomy.

Okay then, I have a question. Regarding how "evil" the character has to be-- do they really have to be an 'omg eating babies' kind of evil? I mean, my understanding of the Sith is that they crave power (and power corrupts) and they don't like the rules of the Jedi, but someone who uses the Force in a way the Jedi don't like isn't automatically really evil. I mean, let's face it, the Jedi were maybe a little too square, at least with the situation in the prequels.

I mean, I personally like a bit of development and depth to my characters, so I'd be down with a slightly-less-than-pure-evil Sith. And the character I'm working on is probably more of a Dark Jedi who just likes the abilities of the 'dark side' of the Force and uses it for her own ends, rather than taking over the galaxy evil. :/

The topic only says "Female Sith Lord," so how much of what a 'Sith' is is up to interpretation?

FlameRaven: I guess a good indication of how evil the Sith are is that they advance in "rank" by assassination of their superiors -- an Apprentice becomes Master by killing his/her mentor. At least that's how I understand it during the era the movies took place, when the Sith "Rule of Two" was in force (ha, a pun): only two Sith, Master and Apprentice.

The general idea is that their thirst for absolute power means that no moral obstacles exist to its acquisition, even "eating babies" if the situation calls for it. The destruction of an entire planet (Leia's homeworld) in the very fisrt Star Wars movies is a case in point -- it was done (ultimately by order of the Emperor, Dark Lord Darth Sidius) only to set an example to other populations not to resist the Empire.

Keeviin, while it isn't his sister, she is a Gungan. I have her story developing that she was a jedi originally and grew tired of the Republics puppet Gungan, Binks. Her rage and hatred turned her to the dark side where she felt freed. I think after the ChoW I'm going to make a jedi and do something with each code.

Yep, I'll be embellishing as I get into the paint, this so far is like an extended cartoon (in the classic sense of the word). I'm thinking she'll be bluish (Funny, she doesn't look bluish. Yet.) with creamy white body art, very high key, as the drawing is now. Not sure of the pattern yet, whether to continue with or contrast with the flow of the drapery and her body curves. The floor will have a bold graphic element, perhaps in deep burgundy, plus some yellow ochre tints, I think. Deep cyan-to-green lightsaber blade (?).

I want the surrounding fabric to resemble satin in its reaction to light, but her garment more like cotton jersey, very matte.

@ Adam Shumpert -- don't know if Emily will fight her way into the poll (doesn't really fit the movie scenario), but she's an absolute gem, I recommend giving her a 200% treatment and popping her into Finally Finished, I think she'd be well-received. Her ears are primo :D

Digging that headdress slowdaddie. looks a bit big, maybe hard to fight in it, if she where more of an action fighter, maybe she doesnt need to move a lot and just use the force like palpatine.

Inkfish character is looking really cool now just give a bit more of detail on the lightsaber, make it stronger because now it seems a bit delicate, and she needs to be fierce in a whole, but thats just a nitpick.

Jason snair: character looking great, looking forward to the colors

Espenboi: Good weapon there. good hands. just try to make her face more evil, she has the han solo mug, the adventurer type. siths are much more serious about themselves.

Trevor: really looking forward to see the finished version, as rush commented im not really fond of the head as well, maybe tone it down a little, but hey, i know youll come up with something cool to wrap it up.

Adam: Try to get that darth emily to lucas man, would sell like crazy as a real toy.

I have a question - It need to be obvious that it would be from the movies: Does this mean that any race not seen in the movies are out of the question?
I always loved the Zeltrons as a concept. They're developed for the SW comics during the 80's but as far as I know never showed in any of the movies, not even as extras..

Worked on the sketch a bit more, it totally pales in comparison to everyone else's but I'm determined to finish if only for the fact that I just really wanted to draw my Sith choking a Kowakian monkey-lizard (I found ref after I sketched for awhile so I'll fix it later), those things annoy the hades out of me.

Holy cow, I'm terribly impressed with all the many incarnations of Sith Ladies here.

Adam S - that little Yoda's sister is kick ass haha :) I think it totally fits into the brief.

and Tommoy - most of the beautiful women I know are the most wicked :p


I am loving all the movement and dynamic poses I am seeing, it's a weakness of mine, I'm just settling on getting proportions right -- foreshortening appropriately is still rather beyond me. So well done everyone, some great alive sketches so far.

The only crit I have really so far is for Grenogs, I think a lower saturation over all for the BG would serve the image better -- just do a quick and dirty layer mask, you dont need to repaint anything. But right now everything in the image is the same saturation level and it makes it sort of flat.

Here's where I'm at. I had my sketch all squared away, and in the middle of painting her face I decided to completely rethink my shapes. Her attitude is stronger now, but in terms of finishing it's a big step back. Dead eyes and a demolished city in the background, fun fun :D

awwwww I'm sooo dissapointed! I just found out about this CHOW this morning and today is the only day I can work on it! I leave to Florida for Megacon in like 2 hours, so here is all I could muster up. All the entries so far look cool, there are some pretty interesting ideas.

This chick is a kaminoan sith from back in the early days when the sith ran deep. She always put more emphasis on her powers and not so much on lightsaber technique. Even in combat, she tends to move as little as possible, preferring to keep an elegance and grace to her demeanor.

Just one thing with the kamino gals that I noticed while drawing mine, the eyes are pretty big (if you want to go the movie way), so imo you should make them take up a bigger space of her head. That's my only critique. :)

Actually I got the idea by going to see a cirque du soleil show. The dancers had these outfits where they wore kamino-ish heads and necks over their faces. THe masks extended like a foot and a half over their actual heads and the effect was really creepy. Thanks for the crit man!

Not sure about the belt, but I'd take a look at the stance of her feet again. Given the position of the rest of her body, we shouldn't be seeing all her toes from 'head-on' (APPLY DIRECTLY TO FOREHEAD!).

Well here is my update for today, World of Warcraft Arena Tournament servers are up and I haven't even made a character yet, let alone my Naxx 25 raid tonight :P

Tried to fix her arm length (thanks for that catch) and started adding in the dress and lightsaber/lighting elements. Still have LOADS to do.

Heres my wip, darth alaya, with her story and everything, cheers guys!

Born from nothing more than dark energy, Alaya was found by Darth Bane inside Naga sadow's tomb, on korriban.
Darth Bane saw the little baby and then the ghost of Naga Sadow's itself amerged fom alayas dark energy, reavealing his destiny and that in the future alaya will kill him in her quest for power.
Furious and saying that he cant be killed by a simple baby, Darth Bane teared the place down, leaving the baby inside.
He didnt knew that by doing that, he was feeding alaya's power and writing his death in the stones of destiny.

Alaya grew up reading ancient writtings weitten in the stones of korriban tombs, learning and getting stronger every year.
When she turned 19, a trading ship landed on korriban, she slayed every living being with naga sadow's sword and escaped, seeking for wisdom and power...

I can't keep up, but I need to keep practicing, so... here's my current wip. I did play around with various things, various tattoo's and stuff, but they're obviously removed from this image.

The reason for all the skin, is that the idea of a 100 percent tattoo'd body is fascinating. I will add some clothes at some point.

Crits are welcome. I've reached that point where everything I do, goes wrong. I'll get some sleep and hope it'll work in the morning.

I feel at a loss for critting everyone. I don't know as much as you guys do. Impressive to see all the ideas, and the craftsmanship of especially some is daunting.

Wanted to show her reclined and a bit passive, more the emperor-style watcher and manipulator than the lightsabre warrior. Cold corruptive beauty. Regal and demanding.
