Happy New Year Conceptart.org!!!
I like start off the new year with a new finished artwork, every year i make an image based on the catholic religion, as some of you know i have been doing this every year since i was in first grade. This year i chose Jesus as my subject matter, after several image searches i realized there was a place within the digital akashic record for a new interpretation of this global avatar. This is my version. I cant remember the last time i put so much time into a single Image.
I will have a 24x36 inch translucent print version of this image at a show in La jan 9th at the new temple of vision gallery (http://templeofvisions.com/events-list/) in downtown Los Angeles. Please come out if you are in the area. :yayca::android:
..............................................
if this image resonates with you and you would like to spend some analog time hanging out with Jesus, here is a hi rez file i have made available to download and share.
http://www.pha-droid.com/JESUS/JESUS__omni.psd
i Have also been working on updating my website,
you can visit www.androidjones.net to check out the beta and please give me any feedback you have on the layout and structure.
I Wish all of you an amazing decade, Ive been spending time with Manley this week and himself Coro and Carl are working around the clock on creating some new amazing creative possibilities for all of you in 2010.\\

Hello again.
A few words to get you in the mood for the beauty lecture.
You might ask why give a lecture on beauty?
Because I love it.
I have been consciously pursuing the dragon's tail of beauty in my work for the past 3 years. I can say with all confidence that it has improved the value and quality of my life and it gave me something profoundly meaningful to share with the world at large.
It's infectious and I feel compelled to share it with you tomorrow.
Beauty gives more than it takes, and it is my goal to give you as much as I can, and have you take away an experience that inspires you to go forward in your personal investigation into the mystery of beauty.
I want everyone to know how much I honor the support that you continue to bring to this site and I will do my best to make the investment that you make in this opportunity one that adds value to your art and reality.
if this invitation resonates with you please click here to find out how to sign up, join the other beauty seekers from around the world and lets dive deeper into the mystery tomorrow.

http://www.androidjones.com/images/2009/META_PREVIEW.jpg

We have rented out a beautiful Catholic cathedral and its ours all night , doors are at 5pm. this lecture is intended to share information that may not be appropriate for forums and cocnepart workshops, topic like spirituality , ayahuasca , entheogens are all fair game, I have just returned from a 3 week spiritual pilgrimage through the amazon and the mountains of Peru and i have a couple stories to share. My intention for this event it to share and enlighten artists on unorthodox means of inspiration, the sacred power of digital art. and the Role that i believe artists have in this strange modern moment of history .;) seating is limited, suggested donation is 50$ however no earnest seeker will be refused admission for lack of funds.

hi......
So I hope everyone has had a chance to see the instructor list (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=148701) for the dallas reverie workshop .
even i have to marvel at what an over the top accumulation of talent that will be present at that event,
texas is all about bigger, better, faster, harder, and that's what your going to get, its a total digital art enima for your creative being. this may never happen again so take hold of your destiny ,be UNreasonable and make it out to this event, your transformation awaits you.
As always it has been far to long, Ive missed you all very much
its been a wild year so far, Time for an official Pixel Purge..
I’ve been doing as much traveling around the world as possible, taking corel painter and the wacom and live digital painting to new frontiers, despite the occasional perks allot of my time is spent in airports, buses , train stations, tube stations, taxi cabs and security screening lines, carrying up to 140 kilos of gear across borders. All for the sake of art. its not as glamorous as you may think, but its what i need to be doing.
I started of 2009 in Brazil for a massive 12,000-person 9-day trance party on the beach; it was an adventure to say the least,
After Brazil I headed out to Costa Rica for an event called manifesto,
The last international journey out to Australia, I did live painting at the rainbow serpent festival, out of all my travels Australia is on the top of my list, if there are any aussies on the boards drop in and saw hi, I plan on making a trip back there as soon as I can.
I painted this New Years Eve. In Brazil

Some of this is clearing out 2008 live paintings and the others are some newer works . i feel like i have a folder with hundreds of paintings that are 90% done, sometimes when you leave them alone for a while and check back in on them they are finished...:).

sunset at rainbow serpent is just amazing. i happened to hit that one right at the peak moment in a (non-screamy) Envy song i was listening to and i got completely lost for a few minutes there.
these are all really awesome. i feel cheated because my simple simian eyes keep getting sucked in by just the color, composition and abstract gooey greatness of it, when in reality there is so much more going on.
i think you should bestow more of those 90% finished ones on us ;P

It was a joy to meet you at both the wellington workshop and at rainbow! an amazing workshop and festival for sure.
what was going on at the bassnectar set? i could see you painting but sadly there was no screen for the audience.
also, would you mind posting the portrait you did of the red haired model in wellington please? the smoke effects you pulled off in that one where mesmorizing.
looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the rest of the year, if 2008 was two thousand and eight the great, then surely 2009 is two thousand and nine the sublime.

Amazing as always.
I just want to thank you for those words you said to me back at marama, it made me think hard about where my art was going and what the hell i was doing. What you said was harsh but it was what i needed to hear. I know it wasn't much but that little bit was enough to push me back on track so i can aim for the stars. So thanks man!!
If you come back to Aus, come to Brisbane and make sure you let us know! :D.

but with each progressing picture,my brain kinda slowed down,and finally grinded to a halt.
beautiful stuff man,really beautiful. my total favourite is the third "logo" on the right,from the "arose" layout...it just fills me with peace...i find it intriguing...it's kinda funny,of all the stuff here,this one just strikes me as perfection. the ashtree and adam are very nice too,but that one...really,i'm caught in a loop.

Your art is beautiful as always - the first piece is a most elegant view into the mysterious n wacky dimension of La Madre's hyperspace. It's amazing how whether you are a Shipibo shaman or a western psychonaught, the mindscape is always similar; the hyperspace broadcasts at two thousand and twelve frames per second no matter who the viewer might be. Nice work on capturing some of those frames and purging them into this realm.

This thread made me download one of your tutorials (FineArt1) and I also watched some youtube interviews of you... I really dig the guitar-style tablet stance you got going on. Really lives out the whole "Art superhero" thing.
My only complaint about the download is the super muffled audio... I have to blast my volume to make out the words you're saying but then BG music starts playing once you're done and I scare the crap out of myself and the pets in my room. Lulz.
I find your lassoing of shapes (really strange shapes) and rendering inside the selection to make the highlights pop out even further even more impressive than your composing of shapes.
You make me want to turn my back on photoshop and devote to painter (freaking LOVE the glowing brushes- can't quite capture the same effect in PS).

Im Sitting in the gallery now, looking at the new prints they are by far the most accurate reproduction 3d manifestation of a digital file i have ever seen, it will be a hard transition to ever want to go back to canvas printing after this, anyone who is interested in seeing this printing technique in action can make it out to the opening tonight,
and then give your artistic ego a shotgun blast in the face when you see Kris Kuski sculptures. they are something you need to see in person to truly grasp the impact they have on the psyche. The work Kris is making will surely go down in art history and one of this centuries great artistic minds. So come out tonight and see it for yourself in person!

it might sound a little bit blasphemic but in my opinion theres a little bit to much "geometric&abstract" in your digital work - i mean the idea is great and your work is absolutely professional and i love the idea to abstract the pictures a little bit with some cool shapes, its just that you overshoot the mark with this a little bit (oh my god my english is so weak i hope that you can understand what i mean)
but - youre traditional work is so strong its ... i mean wonderful, fantastic wich i could see them in real sometime! very inspiring! hope to see more of this soon :asslick:

nicee!!
i like how you played with some of the canvas / prints, you made them bold?
and some are printed /painted on glas/plastic? nice experiments
a good presentation is verry important, and can make your art better.
you did that verry well.
you ever thought of making sculptures? or maybe you already do that..
but working in 3d works totally different.. and can put your ideas/work
in another way and it will look totally different.. out of that you can get more ideas and you can experiment further, etc ..
imagine the shapes, colors and figures in stone or whatever material you want.
just a thought..
would be nice to see all the prints and paintings in real.

JL.Alfaro--that's a great story, thanks for sharing , as soon as i get some assistants ill pass on the advice. Even if we are all "just a man" i think we can also be severed my reminding ourselves that just being a man can be pretty awesome, and we all have a tremendous amount of potential within us waiting to be achieved.
Azuma, Hironori - well the downloads are only a few clicks away and a new fine art volume 2 is on the horizon
xbert - i think i know what you mean, when i create an abstract image especialy i in a digital meduim is easy to become overwhelmed with all of the shape making options, and i often error on the side of excess. With painter you can make one hundred different drastic decisions in a matter of minutes, im constantly trying to remind myself to practice more restraint, i appreciate your insight.
erik-jan v/d schuur- thanks , i have considered sculptures, at the moment im interested in giving my physical work more tangible volume through etching and layering of materials, i have a new instillation project early i2010 where i will be designing an environment of a night club and i will be able to experiment with more 3d elements in my work.
thanks for all the encouragement guys, believe it or not they keep me going and help to fight off the mind parasites.

just wanted to say that your analogue pieces are really rad... would love to see one in nature. i really dig the approach to go more abstract instead of rendering figurative keyelements... the subtile konstruction of abstract pattern is away more soaking for the recipient i think.. its kind of absurd to say when i look at your digi-repros but the non-figurative pieces are far more auratic ;-)
best regards

What canvas size to you usually start with in Painter?
Do you struggle with brushlag and such?
I guess in general I was wondering if you one day could make a huge post in the Painter Section on tips and tricks which you use in Painter. Such as the Paper folder tip you gave a while ago. That was really helpfull!
Anyways, love your stuff as usual. Totally breathtaking!

Really lovely, I can't help wishing some times that the less random elements used were less visible, the abstract elements are great but when the pattern is made out of tree branches or there is a butterfly floating amidst abstract shapes making up hair it distracts my attention from the effect created by the repetition. Then I'm looking at the object used to create the patten not the over all effect.
Love O.P.M, the more steam punky/art nouveau is delicious!

thanks for all the positive feedback -
Azuma, Hironori i work very spontaneously, switching back between programs allows me to push one until my inspiration calm down than i open another to renew my possibilities. i think in terms of what all the programs are capable of creating together.
Leidenschaft as far as color flow it all comes from trial and error and experimenting with the relationship the colors have as a whole.
R a n d i s- thanks randis, your ambition and drive inspire me allot as well.
Farvus thanks farvus, the process is my favorite part, its great having an artform that allows you to share the journey with others. I also learn so much more by reviewing my work flow in high speed, kind of like how athletes watch videos of their performance to gain new insights
Hive_minD i often start at my screen resolution, when working at home i can use a 1600x2500 then i build up and re size from there.
i dont get too much brush lag, when i work on very hi rez images over 10000 pixels tall i sometimes cut the images into parts and photostich it back together.
i am working on a few tutorial videos for corel at the moment, if you have a list of topics you would like me to cover please let me know, there are so many things that i could focus on .
Feral Friend thanks Feral, each shape can hold an emotional charge for the viewer and its always a challenge to find the balance between the charge they carry and the repetition. i appreciate you bringing this to my attention , ill put some more though into it in the future .

Well tutorials on your process is awesome no matter what. But I would love to hear more about:
-how you organize your patterns and papers and brushes and the like, at the same time as you keep Painter running as smoothly as possible.
-what color-profile you work in. -also when then throwing it back and forth in different software such as Photoshop. (I really struggle with this still... )
-in-depth about the Divine Proportion
-was also wondering how you get that "wavy" texture so fine all over the entire canvas. Is that in Painter, or is it Photoshop? Have seen it on several of your paintings. Would like to try it out myself
otherwise I am totally digging your Jesus artwork. It is stunning. I must say I have kinda lost my way a little when it comes to religion, but I do believe there is something out there that is unexplainable. Heck, my cousin was just in a car accident, and it is still far from certain that he will survive, but it is a miracle that he still IS alive. These are not my words. The surgeon came out of the operating-room crying (thats right... crying.) and said that "they have done everything they can, it is up to God now. But it is a miracle that he is still alive. Just unexplainable."
This piece of art gave me a certain peace. That things work out for a reason, even though we don´t always like it, accept it, understand it, or respect it.
Embrace life and love! Best wishes to all!

Andrew Jones work is so inately beautiful to me. Does Andrew sell these pieces as originals in galleries? I'm curious what an origional costs? And also-a question for Android-or others: Due to the digital nature of this art, because it can be replicated (mulitple prints made from the "original file") it is defficult, or impossalbe to say "this" piece was the original that I created , in terms of a traditional oil etc. So, does this affect the collectors view of how valuable, or rare the piecs are? Does it deminish value? It seems we're entering an age where this may be more accepted-or conversly does digital art drive the prices of traditional original art up?

beautiful work as always. the glass prints are genius. one thing kind of surprises me though, and this is in no way a criticism, you went with the stereotypical caucasian Jesus... After seeing the title and then the image there was a split second of "aww, he didn't do anything with that?". of course I immediately forgot about it when i started pouring over the insane amount of detail in your work. Still for some reason i expected Android jones' Jesus to be a bit different...

With all due respect to the poster who felt more avenues could have been explored on the theme of Jesus's steretyped caucasian nature, remember Android's "Catholica" artworks are composites of the rich catholic and christian imagery available rather than reimaginings. They combine the imagery in new and original ways, but its more an exploration and affirmation of the material than a reconstruction. With such material of course Android builds astonishing images, and with no doubt I proclaim him an artistic visionary equal to that of previous titans like Frazetta or (cliches ahoy!) Picasso, who is taking the digital art movement away from being a convenience to being an artform in its own right through which new ideas impossible on physical paper can be visualized.
The image in question is no less one of the greatest Jones images so far, topped only in my mind by the Karmapa and Divine Mother.

Happy new year!
And great update to your website too!
some small things though that (in my opinion) could make it that little bit better:
1. center your container in the browser window. I personaly dont like watching websites that stick to the left side of my browser window.
this can be done by putting all you html elements in a container div so actually:
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<div id="container">
<!--- Place your html here -->
</div>
</body>
</html>
and then in css you apply the width you want for your website, with a margin auto:
#container {
width: 500px; /* the width of your website comes here, in this example 500px */
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}
2. I don't like the background image at the top being cut off, think it would be better if it ran through untill the real end of the image. Not sure why it is cut off like that, i should watch your css more closesly to find the reason.
3. avoid inline css code in your html, it's not bad bad, but html is normally used for content only, the styling completely goes into css.
4. make your header image clickable so it leads back to the homepage
But in total the website is great! its in my bookmarks :)
Happy 2010, may it be an inspiring year for all of us!

Hey Andrew, I really like your work and I see that a lot people do here. However I have only one bit of critique, It would be nice to see you develop some new brushes or brush with some different shapes to replace the triangles in your art, as far as I know the triangles might have some significance for you maybe they represent something specific for you however I've seen a lot of your work and the absence of triangles for a few pieces would be a breath of fresh air and a challenge for you to maybe update your brush library without losing what makes your work your own. Just a thought.
