Today's topic is: Vehicle: Steam punk Submarine

Punk?...as in, strangely haired, strangely dressed people with pink hair?....but what should that have to do something with a Submarine...steampower..hmmm:confused:

OLSEN

Steampunk is more or less 19:th century cyberpunk with steampowered gadgets. It has nothing to do with modern day punks. Think Jules Verne and you cant go wrong.

son of a bitch... honestly this topic is so hard...
i usually try to do something for everything but i'm so clueless to where i want to go with this... hopefully some posts in here will give me inspirtion to try again...

I already gave up but I shouldn't ... so I ask again ...
does this qualify if I paint it under water?
Or does it have to be obviously steampowered?

Right now a discussion doesn't disturb the flow of image posts I guess ;)

I read that Back To The Future 3 is another example ...
that inspired me more or less.

Ceenda's Website (http://www.flyingislands.co.uk/gallery/albums.php) might be interesting.
Especially the illustrations.
And a google search for cogwheel and stuff like that :D

Terayon

Well here is my attempt at it...

http://img6.photobucket.com/albums/v16/Terayon/steampunksubmarine.jpg

Well, my submarine is steam powered :P lol, i guess it counts, and my texturing is a bit better than before, been learning with OC.

Thanks for the site Skank :)

Darn, Olsen and Terayon, you beat me. I figured, maybe today I'd get mine in first. :D I guess I have to try harder then...

So anyways here's mine. It features a retractable exhaust pipe, pipes for ventilation, torpedo tubes, 4 fore, 2 aft and a deck cannon. Maybe I'll do something with this later. But's is quick sketch for now.

PS: I forget to comments :D

Olsen, I like the water to the left side of your boat.

Terayon, nice bubbles you got going there. Show us more of the boat though :D

Ey, snowball that's cruel! You can't just nail some steel plates on a whale and till it dies to make your boat. :D

@ Jebus, nice detail on the scope and the crane arms.

Here is my submarine:
A digitally colored pencil sketch, took me about one hour:
http://web703.athen023.server4free.de/digi/uboot.jpg

My favorites so far are olsen's pic (because I like the perspective) and lichtpartikel's (because I just can't figure out what it should be -it just looks like a cool conncept).
But good word from all of you!

kartoffel: it's a submarine, what else could it be?!? but seriously i know what you mean, it could use a little more detail. - thanks for the comment. is yours really waterproof?

Snowball, Oregano and Lichtpartikel - Really nice designs.
OLSEN - Yours has a great feel; very industrial.
Hazzard - To me, steampunk stuff should be a combination of elegant and industrial parts. You nailed it. Colour it for us..!

It doesn't look very steampunky... but thats because some of the details are... vague as I spent a grand total of 20 minutes on it.

Interesting topic today =)

Amazing stuff everyone !

If anyone is still looking for some inspiration maybe a peak at this page of some of the first submarines will do you some good!

Sort of a combination of u-boat and an ancient greek tireme. I'm so excited, this is my first post, all the stuff I've seen here is incredible and I'm glad to be a part of it.
Okay, thanks to Josephrey I now realized that linking to geocities doesn't work, what you have to do to see the picture is click on the link and then put ?? at the end. Hopefully soon my real website will be working and I'll link to that.
Update: Now my site is working! Hope you like the picture!

I cant do this one tonight. I have a Chemistry final of DOOM and PAIN and RAPING tomorrow, so I'll catch everyone later. Peace out and wish me luck.

I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday.

I admire all of those who achieved atmosphere with their artwork today. Matt Dixon with an especially magnificent entry. Plaf, very beautiful and elegant. As far as the rest of us, I like the fact that no two look alike -- we put the concept into conceptart!

Instead of solely using the tablet today, I started with a pencil sketch and colored it in PS6.

Signature: I like the design, because it doesn't look like a modern sub.

Staylor: Thatīs a nice sub.

Niq3d: I like the presentation of different designs.

Grimlohk: Seems like it would fit well in a steampunk period.
The guy with the hat is a nice touch. :)

Matt Dixon - Nice lighting, and chunky modeling!
staylor - Welcome! Love the styling on this... The water and sun aren't so hot, but the sub itself is really sharp looking. Great intro piece.
niq3d - Great concepts! Seems to betray some historical love for this subject. Welcome aboard the HMS DSG.
avalos - Good sketch! The overall feeling is what I love about this one. ... Something very tangible about it for me.
paper slayer - I'd love to see that one in colour! Nice concept.
josephrey - Great pic! Love the corkscrew bubble-trail, and centralized giant rotor!

Thanks for the feedback guys, and William, I did hapen to love subs as a kid (not the ones with bacon and tomato though)

I love your lighting techniques William, inspirational and very moody, which is surprising given some of the neon colours that stand out in your pallette, excellent use of contrast
